“Adirindhi”, the Telugu dubbed version of Tamil star hero Vijay’s “Mersal” hit screens yesterday, and received average to above average reviews. Thanks both the controversies and the phenomenal success of “Mersal”, Adirindhi took a solid opening across the Telugu states yesterday despite it being a Thursday. The film witnessed very good occupancy in the morning shows today and trade already predicts the film to grow from strength to strength at box office.

Vishal’s “Detective” is another film that hit screens today. The film’s Tamil version, “Thupparivalan” had released long back and received fabulous reviews. Vishal’s popularity in the Telugu states and the proven content may help the film strike gold at box office. Good reports are coming for Detective from early shows.

The prolific Sundeep Kishan is back with his new film, “Care of Surya”. Early reports are positive for this thriller, which was directed by Suseenthiran of “Naa Peru Shiva” fame.

Noted Tamil cinematographer Priyan passed away on Thursday at his residence in Chennai due to a cardiac arrest. He had worked as cinematographer for nearly 30 films in Kollywood. Condolences poured in on social media expressing shock over the sudden demise of the senior cinematographer.

The 53-year-old cameraman was best known as the frequent collaborator of top Tamil director Hari, with whom he worked on 13 films, including the Singam series. He was about to begin shooting for “Saamy Square”, a sequel to “Saamy” that starred Vikram in lead role. This would have been Priyan’s 14th film with director Hari.

He is survived by wife and two daughters.
