PSV Garuda Vega Movie Review

Share

Garuda Vega is one film that has grabbed the interest of film buffs with intriguing promos. It is not a regular masala potboiler. It is a slick action film that has engaging thrills and chase sequences. First half of the film is superb, but second half lacks to live up to it.

Story :

Sekhar (Rajasekhar) is a NIA officer who deals with high profile criminal cases. His wife (Pooja) is unhappy with his duty mindedness and files for a divorce. While Sekhar is working to save his marriage, he comes across a murder case that unfolds into a larger scheme of things. Sekhar is now after a multibillion scam in which many politicians and higher officers are involved. How he nabs the criminals with the help of a hacker (Adith) forms rest of the story.

Performances:

The character is tailor made for Rajasekhar who has played similar characters in many films in the past. He did pretty well as the sincere officer who is dealing with troubled marriage. The character is written in such a way that it suits his age and Rajasekhar did pretty well in carrying the film with his sincere performance. Pooja Kumar’s character is annoying and sticks out as a sore thumb in this engaging thriller. Adith Arun is aptly cast. Nasser is fine as Rajasekhar’s higher official. Posani Krishna Murali and Pruthvi characters are used for comic relief. Actors who played Rajasekhar’s associates did well.

Technicalities:

Director Praveen Sattaru never sticks to one genre. He likes to switch between genres and his attempt at action is commendable. He brings the quality of a slick Hollywood actioner with his narrative. His handling of the film in first half is top class. He should have stick with the narrative rather going for commercial elements in the second half though.

There are only two songs and Sunny Leone’s song is targeted at the masses. Background score by Sricharan is topnotch. Cinematography and action choreographers did a splendid job in making it an engaging ride. Production values are commendable. Editing in the second half should have been better. The film drags a lot in the middle portions of second half.

Thumbs Up:

  • First half
  • Action scenes

Thumbs Down:

  • Second half drags
  • Poor attempt at comedy

Analysis:

Garuda Vega opens on a very high note with an edge of the seat bike chase. The scene sets high standards for the rest of the film and there are ample scenes where the director strives to offer top class action entertainment. The scene where Rajasekhar and his crew nabs the gang that are smuggling ‘Nakshatra Tabellu’ and the car chase on the busy Hyderabad roads keep the adrenaline flowing.

Entire sequence of events that Rajasekhar and his team find about a bomb attack and the terrific interval episode will leave the viewers awestruck. Despite the boring family episodes, first half of the film will thrill the audience with pulsating action episodes. First half of the film is racy with some nail biting stuff. Director and the action directors along with other technical crew deserve a pat for making such an exciting first half.

It is pretty hard for anyone to maintain the same tempo until the end and as expected Sattaru struggles with the second half. The film suddenly loses steam after the core theme of the film is explained. With action taking the backseat and director inclining towards commercial elements to fill the void, Garuda Vega turns into a regular action film dealing with a huge scam. We expect the film to get back on track during the climax episodes, but it ends as if the director has run out of ideas.

Climax part is very clumsily written and executed leaving a lot to be desired. In spite of a very ordinary second half, Garuda Vega is still worth watching for its extraordinary first half. This could have been a game changer for everyone involved had Praveen Sattaru didn’t lose grip over the proceedings in the second half. Commercial success of the film depends on how the masses and family audience embrace it.

Verdict: Thrilling Action Saga

Nag Wishes To Prove Them Wrong

Share

The decision of Akkineni Nagarjuna to team up with Ram Gopal Varma, at this phase in his career, has shocked many. Admitting the same, Nag exuded confidence in Varma proving all of them wrong.

Nagarjuna recollected that several people, including his well-wishers and friends, were shocked when he agreed to do RGV’s, a newcomer then, “Shiva” back in 1988. The film however became a blockbuster, a trendsetter and a cult film, thus proving all those doubters wrong.

The “Oopiri” actor added that now, in 2017, when he once again agreed to do a RGV film, a lot of people felt happy, and a lot more were shocked. He hopes that the maverick filmmaker will once again live up to his trust.

The new film will be a cop drama with RGV-mark intense action. It will be launched in Annapurna studios on November 20. RGV himself is bankrolling the film. More details regarding cast and crew will be announced shortly.

Why Media Defeating Nagarjuna??

Share

Other day Nagarjuna tweeted, ‘Super excited to start RGV’s cop drama with his intense stylised action on nov20/wanted to announce it myself but the media beat me to it’, indicating that media went ahead of him. But this is not the first time.

Earlier when there was the date of Samantha-Chay wedding doing rounds in media, Nagarjuna said the same thing. Also, he felt that ‘Hello’ first look was leaked in a similar fashion and again media is the one he spoke about for the leakage. But why would media defeat Nagarjuna all the time?

If we could look at things from another side, it is people close to Nagarjuna who are giving all these hints and leaks, and only media is airing them. Back then, a girlfriend of Hello poster designer shared the look on her social media page and that’s how it got into the public. Chay-Sam marriage date was revealed by Chay himself on a TV interview, which made it viral.

This November 20th RGV movie thing, Varma himself shared it on his Facebook page. These are the reasons for media having upper hand over Nagarjuna, but not anything else. Anyway, Nag’s sweet appreciation for media this way is also delighting media folks too!!

Pch!! Bunny’s Heroine Looking Under Skirt

That could be funny or dirty, but when it comes to friends, they do anything for the sake of invoking laughs and show how crazy people they are. Same thing happened with Allu Arjun’s “Varudu” heroine Bhanusree Mehra now.

Whether they slip into bikinis and dance to DJ’s loud beats at Miami beach or it is a just simply walk in Uptown Manhattan, Bhanu Sree is oozing loads of hotness.

If we could trace that hotness to the past, a couple of months Bhanu Sree did a naughty act with her makeup artist and friend Rabia Grewal. In one of the candid shots, she’s seen trying to peep inside the skirt of her good friend. This is too naughty for a girl to do and film industry folks are simply going shocked over that act.

Cut to films, Bhanu Sree has a couple of Tamil and Kannada movies in hand, including upcoming Simba. Meanwhile, she’s busy with photo shoots for fashion brands and magazines.

The project however was scrapped after the untimely death of Soundarya, who was on board to essay the role of Draupadi.

Before Balayya locked GPS as his 100th film, there were speculations that he would revive “Nartanasala” with Nayanthara playing the character of Draupadi. The actor however confirmed in an interview during the promotions of GPS that he had no plans of reviving the project.

Mahesh’s New Found In Full Demand!!

Do you know the heroine of films like Fugly, MS Dhoni, and Machine? It doesn’t ring any bells, right? But the name “Bharat Anu Nenu” immediately brings a name of this new hottie on your lips. Yes, it is Kiara Advani, the girl whose father allowed her into films for real after watching ‘3 Idiots’ movie.

Touch Mahesh and your career will become gold, is what they are saying now. It seems like the touch of Mahesh Babu really works on newbies, as whenever he brings one, they get good demand in no time. Earlier we have seen how Kriti Sanon got superb demand post 1-Nenokkadine. And now it’s the turn of Chief Minister’s girlfriend.

Currently working only on Mahesh’s movie, Kiara is now getting calls from Kollywood as well. If everything goes well, she could be the heroine of Vijay’s next movie, his 62nd film, likely to be directed by AR Murugadoss. Though the names of Rakul Preet and Sonakshi Sinha are heard earlier, both delivered a flop with this director. For that reason, sentimental Vijay is said to have asked to pick someone else.

Kiara is the frontrunner for the role so far and if she gets the mega chance, then surely Mahesh Babu’s magic has worked big time, we have to say.

At Last, Mersal Releasing in Telugu

Share

At last, the Telugu dubbed version of Vijay-starrer Mersal – Adhirindi – is releasing on November 9. After witnessing several release dates, the film is finally going to release on November 9. The sources in the know have confirmed the development.

While the film was initially supposed to release for Diwali along with the original version Mersal on October 18, it got delayed as the film’s Censor certificate for the dubbed version has been held for long.

The original Mersal embroiled in a major controversy over its alleged satires on government’s key decisions such as Demonetisation and GST. Allegedly, this is behind the delay of the Telugu version as Censor Board is reportedly in a confusion whether to pass the dubbed version after the original stroked a controversy.

Finally, the film is gearing up for release in Telugu next week (Nov 9). It has to be seen how the film would fare in Telugu given that the film was the highest-grossing Tamil film (till date).
