Rajamouli Launches Invalid Movie Ticket

Last night, director giant Rajamouli has stunned everyone with his gracious presence at “Ninnu Kori” pre-release event. For the love he has for hero Nani, the Baahubalian director graced the occasion as a chief guest.

Unlike launching an audio CD, the makers used their creativity to launch the First Day first show ticket for the movie. As you could notice in the picture, Rajamouli launched the larger-than-life size ticket of 8:45 AM show for Prasad’s Imax, Hyderabad. There maybe lots of creativity but this ticket is for sure invalid. Wonder why?

Nani and co have politely forgotten the GST thing and the ticket prices are going to be hiked to Rs 200 by the time Ninnu Kori hits cinemas. Now you could notice that the ticket launched by Rajamouli costs only 150 rupees, which is why cinema lovers are joking that it is invalid.

“Rich production values, Nani’s confidence that he could make us laugh with a joke and make us cry with an emotion are the assets of Ninnu Kori trailer. Though I didn’t find anything new in the trailer, it is somehow intriguing. I wish producer Danayya and distributors get huge profits” said Rajamouli, on this occasion.

Oscars’ Body Humiliates SRK

Shah Rukh Khan has been conferred several international honors in his glorious career that no other Indian actor has ever dreamed of. From delivering speeches at reputed universities to being decorated with the highest civilian honors of outer countries, SRK has achieved many glories. The actor however may not have expected that he would one day be humiliated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences aka Oscars’ Body.

The Academy has this year issued 774 invitations to new members, the list has a big contingent of Indian actors and filmmakers. The likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Irrfan Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and a few more have got official invites but Shah Rukh Khan didn’t get one.

”The basic requirement is that a candidate must have demonstrated exceptional achievement in the field of theatrical motion pictures,” said the Academy.

When even Deepika Padukone can get invited, aren’t SRK’s achievements make him eligible to become a member of the Academy? fume his fans on social media.

As per a report, while the Academy sent a record 683 invites last year, it did even better this year by issuing 774 invites.

What’s Wrong With Nani’s Tweet??

Naturally, fans get upset with release date approaching fast and publicity of the film not happening in a big way. But producers and heroes are not fools and they know when to start publicity and how to make it on a grand scale. In this process, however, fans lose cool and start behaving in whatever way they like.

One such hardcore fan of Nani started abusing writer Kona Venkat on Twitter about the publicity campaign being delayed, upon which the ace writer blocked him. Reporting the issue to his heartthrob hero, the fan tweeted, “Publicity gurinchi oka fan ga kona ni adigithe Block chesadu”. (As I’ve asked about publicity, Kona blocked me). How does this tweet justify someone addressing Kona Venkat in a singular tone? Irritated by such many tweets of the same fan, Nani decided to give some gyaan.

“U call urself my fan ..thank you but Have seen ur tweets to others.. Either u change ur language or change ur Twitter handle and DP .tc”, tweeted Nani, as a reply. That’s a perfect advise any star hero would give but Nani came a bit forward and tweeted it for real.

Moral police, however, started their ‘dharna’ on Twitter immediately saying that Nani is taking success to head. Whether he takes success to head or not, what he said is true and right on this occasion, said his loyal fans.

In an age when fingerprint scanners are standard in premium flagship smartphones as well as low-cost budget phones, Vivo is going a step further in revolutionising the technology. Rumours have followed Apple and Samsung for months now about integrating biometric sensor under the display of their flagship smartphones, but a new competitor has made this fantasy a reality.

China-based smartphone manufacturer, Vivo, has demonstrated the future of fingerprint scanning technology that sits under the display of the smartphone powered by Qualcomm. This new tech, followed by several rumours, will make physical home buttons and rear-mounted fingerprint scanning modules obsolete.

Vivo showed off its Under Display Sensor – first of its kind – at the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2017. According to the company, the sensor can scan through glass, aluminium and OLED deeper than the existing technology in the market. To be precise, Vivo Under Display can penetrate 1.3mm of OLED, 525μm of aluminium or 800μm of glass, Mashable reported.

The new sensor by Vivo is also designed to work with wet fingers, but the company is already working on the next-gen variant that will work underwater.

By launching this new technology, Vivo has raced ahead of giants like Apple and Samsung. The upcoming iPhone 8 was expected to be the first smartphone fingerprint scanner under the display, and it may well be true if Vivo fails to commercially launch before Apple.

The demo of Vivo Under Display was on a prototype device, which we are unsure of when it will hit the market. Qualcomm, however, said that the new solution can be integrated into devices powered by Snapdragon 660 and 630 chipsets. The chip maker also revealed that the commercial availability of the new sensors in smartphones can be expected in the first half of 2018.

Hands-on videos show that the technology is perfected to work effortlessly, albeit not as snappy as the current fingerprint sensors. If companies like Samsung and Apple are to integrate this tech, the sensors must be fool-proof.

Motorola releases Android 7.0 Nougat update to Moto X Force in many countries

Motorola is all set to roll out Android 7.0 Nougat update for Moto X Force in more markets, hinting the firmware could come to several countries, including India, soon. The latest countries to get the OS (for Moto X Force) are Australia and New Zealand.

The Lenovo-owned Motorola rolled out Android 7.0 Nougat update to the Moto X Force (known by the name Motorola DROID Turbo 2) devices in the United States in February this year before doing the same in Latin America in May. The phone was launched in 2015 with Android 5.1 Lollipop before being updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Now, Moto X Force owners in Australia and New Zealand should get the firmware via OTA (over-the-air). The update comes with Android security patches.

“We are excited to announce a new software update for Moto X Force by Motorola. This update brings Android 7.0 Nougat to your smartphone along with other improvements,” reads the statement from Motorola Australia-New Zealand.

“Android 7.0 Nougat improves your mobile experience with new multitasking features, more efficient notification controls and improved data saver and battery features,” it added.

However, it is not known when the Moto X Force devices in Australia and New Zealand will start getting the firmware.

Motorola has also announced the roll out of Android 7.1.1 Nougat update (latest version) for the Moto X Play, but the actual seeding is yet to begin. In a response to a query by International Business Times, India Edition via Twitter, Motorola said the Moto X Play owners will receive the firmware update notification as it will happen via OTA but refused to reveal the exact date for the same.

Going by the past trend, the Moto X Play should get the OS sooner than later as Motorola usually starts public seeding of firmware close on the heels of its announcement.

US travel ban on on six Muslim countries takes effect

Washington President Donald Trump’s temporary ban on refugees and travelers from six mainly Muslim countries came into effect late Thursday, after the Supreme Court allowed it following a five month battle with rights groups.

The Trump administration says the ban is necessary to block terrorists from entering the country, but immigrant advocates charge that it illegally singles out Muslims.

The 90-day ban on visitors from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen will allow exceptions for people with “close family relationships” in the United States, which the government has defined narrowly, excluding grandparents and grandchildren, aunts and uncles and others.

North Korea threatens to kill South Korea’s former president Park Geun-Hye

North Korea on Wednesday threatened to “impose a death penalty” on South Korean ex-president Park Geun-Hye for allegedly plotting to assassinate Pyongyang’s leader Kim Jong-Un.

North Korea’s security ministry and prosecutors reportedly released a statement saying Park had “pushed forward” a plan by Seoul’s intelligence services to eliminate the North Korean leadership, according to North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency reports.

“We declare at home and abroad that we will impose death penalty on traitor Park Geun Hye,” the statement released by the agency said. The statement also said that the former director of South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) Lee Byung-Ho would also be killed.

They “can never make any appeal even though they meet miserable dog’s death anytime, at any place and by whatever methods from this moment,” the statement added.

The Pyongyang statement demanded that Seoul hand over “traitor Park” and the former intelligence chief “as they committed hideous state-sponsored terrorism against the supreme leadership” of North Korea, according to AFP reports. Park is currently on trial in Seoul on charges of bribery and abuse of power.

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire on verge of becoming BofA’s top shareholder

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc may be on the verge of becoming Bank of America Corp’s largest shareholder, after the bank raised its dividend in the wake of a positive assessment of its ability to handle market stresses.

Bank of America on Wednesday boosted its annual dividend 60 percent to 48 cents per share from 30 cents, beginning in the third quarter.

Buffett has said a boost of that size would likely prompt him to swap Berkshire’s preferred shares in the second largest bank into common shares now worth about $16.7 billion (12.9 billion pounds).

Berkshire did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

An exchange would made Berkshire the largest shareholder of both Bank of America and Wells Fargo & Co, the third largest US bank, and more than triple a $5 billion investment made fewer than six years ago.

It would also signal Buffett’s confidence in Brian Moynihan, Bank of America’s chief executive.

Moynihan has worked to restore investors’ confidence in his Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank after it spent more than $70 billion since the global financial crisis to resolve legal and regulatory matters, largely from its purchases of Countrywide Financial Corp and Merrill Lynch & Co.

“Buffett has said he is very happy with what Moynihan’s doing, and it’s easy work for him to get more dividends,” said Bill Smead, whose $1.16 billion Smead Value fund includes shares of both companies. “For Bank of America, it would mean a further endorsement by the most spectacular large-cap stock picker of all time.”

Buffett is worth $76.1 billion, Forbes magazine says.

The dividend increase required approval by the Federal Reserve, which conducts annual “stress tests” of big banks’ ability to handle tough economic and market conditions.

On Wednesday, the Fed approved capital plans for Bank of America, which also announced a $12 billion stock buyback plan, and 33 other large US banks.

Lender of last resort

Buffett had bought $5 billion of Bank of America preferred stock with a 6 percent dividend, or $300 million annually, in August 2011, when investors worried about the bank’s capital needs.

The purchase included warrants to acquire 700 million common shares at $7.14 each, less than one-third Wednesday’s closing price of $23.88.

In his February 25 letter to Berkshire shareholders, Buffett said he “would anticipate” swapping the preferred stock into common stock if the annual dividend rose above 44 cents per share.

A swap would also let Berkshire enjoy gains if Bank of America’s stock price rose. In contrast, the value of the preferred shares will not change so long as Bank of America does not collapse. Berkshire’s warrants expire in September 2021.

Buffett’s bet was among more than $25 billion of high-yielding investments he made from 2008 to 2011 in such companies as General Electric Co and Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

The investments shored up confidence in the companies and helped give Buffett a reputation as a lender of last resort when times were tough.

Bank of America’s largest shareholder is Vanguard Group, whose 652.4 million shares give it a 6.6 percent stake, Reuters data show.

H-1B visa holder salary must be hiked to $80,000, says American Labour Secretary

US Labour Secretary Alexander Acosta has called for increasing the minimum salary of foreign workers on H-1B visas, the most sought after by Indian IT firms, from the existing $60,000 to at least $80,000, according to a PTI report on Thursday.

Acosta told a Congressional panel that it would address to a large extent the problem of replacement of American workers by foreign workers coming to the US on H-1B visas.

“Congress has not updated that $60,000 threshold over time. If Congress were to update that simply for inflation, it would bring it up to well over $80,000 and many if not most of the situations like you have identified, would be eliminated because they would be below that $60,000 threshold,” PTI quoted Acosta telling members of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labour, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies.

“And so perhaps when that was enacted way back one, that was appropriate threshold, but I would encourage the Senator to look at that issue because I can’t imagine how one explains the American worker that they have to train their foreign replacement and it has happened again and again and again,” Acosta was quoted by PTI, responding to a question from Senator Richard Durbin.

Durbin mentioned the name of a pharmaceutical company in Chicago that told 150 of its IT workers, who had been with them for years, that there were being terminated.

“They were terminated as long would get an extra benefit for their termination of one month of pay for every year of work if they agree to two things. First, they don’t say anything publicly about being fired. Secondly, they train their replacements. The replacements were H-1B visa holders from India,” Durbin alleged in the PTI report. He claimed that more than half the H-1B visas go to two major outsourcing companies in India.

“What were those H-1B workers going to do? They were going to replace the American workers. So these pharmaceutical employees were required to train their replacements on the job as they walked out the door, the Americans walked out the door,” the PTI report quoted Durbin as saying. “And then the jobs were outsourced to India after these workers were trained,” he said.
