Gopichand Malineni who always sticks with the commercial template has yet again treaded the same path with Winner. Apart from presenting Sai Dharam Tej in a stylish way, there’s nothing noteworthy about the movie. It is just another mindless masala flick that Telugu cinema audience is already fed up with.
Story :
Siddharth (Sai Dharam Tej) hates his father (Jagapathi Babu) and horse racing as the latter neglects the former by getting busy with his business. Sid runs away from home and grows up to become a newspaper editor and publisher. He falls in love with Sitara (Rakul), an athlete. While Sitara father forces her to get married against her will, she comes up with a plan where Sid has take up the challenge of turning jockey for the sake of winning his love.
Performances:
Sai Dharam Tej is presented in a stylish way unlike his previous films. His styling is good and he tries hard to deliver the best for his character. Rakul Preeth Singh is in there for the sake of glamour and she performs her duties with utmost sincerity. Jagapathi Babu’s screen presence is good. Mukesh Rushi’s villainy is too silly. Thakur looks like an old school villain, all brawn but no brain! Prudhvi, Ali and Vennela Kishore provide a bit of relief with their comedy. Rest of the cast doesn’t have much to do except for mouthing the lines written for them.
Technicalities:
Gopichand Malineni has proved his capabilities of handling a commercial film. He plays it safe yet again without trying anything new. Screenplay is too predictable and there is nothing that is exciting on the direction front. It is just a lazy job from the experienced director in the name of making a commercial entertainer.
Thaman’s music is just ok. Background score lacks the punch. Dialogue is too bland and over the top. Cinematography is good and the production values are top notch. Editor does a decent job by keeping the run time short.

Analysis:
Commercial entertainers usually don’t offer much on the story front. Therefore, audience wouldn’t expect anything special from a movie like Winner after looking at its promos and posters. However, they will expect to be entertained with an engaging screenplay. Sadly, Winner screenplay turned out to be its biggest drawback.
Director relies heavily upon the comedy scenes when he had no clue about how to pass the time. Prudhvi as Singam Sujatha and Ali as Peter Haynes did their bit in first half and second half respectively. Apart from a few comedy bits, Winner looks tired and super predictable in the remaining part.
We can predict every scene beforehand and director doesn’t even make an attempt to surprise us by coming up with something unexpected. It is quite clear that hero comes out as winner right from the start of the film. When one has such a predictable and thin plot on hand, efforts should be put on presenting it an interesting way.
Mukesh Rushi’s hatred towards his grandson is the main tool to run this screenplay. That itself looks tacky that Winner doesn’t make sense at any point. At least the horse racing episodes should have been thrilling to make it a satisfying film. Unfortunately, Gopichand Malineni didn’t have the vision to give it a nail-biting finish. All in all, Winner is a film that relies heavily upon the elements that please the B and C center audience. Its box office run will depend upon how they respond to it.
Verdict: Too weak to be a winner.
Malayalam actress Bhavana, who was recently kidnapped and molested, has reportedly vowed not to act in films until the culprits get severe punishment.
Bhavana was supposed to act in a new film alongside Malayalam actor Prithviraj. The actor himself has now revealed that she decided to opt out not just from his film but vowed to restrain herself from acting in any film until the legal system does justice to her by punishing the perpetrators who kidnapped and sexually assaulted her.
A few days earlier, Bhavana’s molestation incident has shocked the entire southern film industry. During the investigation, police have arrested four of the six accused and also found out that a noted Malayalam actor and two sons of a big politician were involved in this. The Malayalam actor however claimed innocence and reiterated that he didn’t have anything to do with Bhavava’s case.
As some big names are involved in this case, police are diligently investigating. The entire film fraternity is in support of Bhavana and everyone demands for deserving punishment for the culprits.
Despite the unhealthy rivalry of Mega and Nandamuri fans, the heroes from both the families continue to maintain good relation and talk respectfully about each other. Mega hero Sai Dharam Tej, who has many a times claimed to be a big fan of NTR Jr, has now praised Balakrishna Nandamuri.
‘Acting in 100 movies is not a small feat. A few years ago, Balayya scored continuous flops but he didn’t lose his self-confidence. In a horrifying incident at Kansas, two Telugu people Srinivas Kuchibhotla and Alok Madasani were shot by a white man after they got into an altercation at Austin’s Bar & Grill in Olathe. Srinivas was in critical condition and later declared dead.
Cops were on manhunt and reportedly arrested a suspect Adam Wade Purinton, 51-year-old Olathe resident, also a navy veteran with inactive pilot license, air traffic controller certificate. He was arrested early Thursday, about five hours after the shooting. Adam may have been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and may have been diagnosed with a serious illness.
The shooter reportedly got into an argument with the victims in the terms of racism, yelling ‘get out of my country’, ‘terrorist’ and similar racial cussing before shooting them.
To avoid unwanted scuffle, the bar management asked him to leave the place , only to find him back at bar with gun and shoot these two guys. One Mr Ian Grillot, was shot in the hand and shoulder while trying to stop the shooting.
The shooter immediately fled the scene, right after the shooting. The shooter reportedly provoked them into argument asking their presence and work in his country, and how they are better than him.

Visakhapatnam: Producer and Member of Parliament T. Subbirami Reddy on Thursday confirmed that efforts are on to make a multi-starrer with megastar Chiranjeevi and his younger brother Pawan Kalyan.
He told the media here that a script is being made to bring the two brothers together on screen for the first time. He said work was on for a story with suitable roles for the leading actors.
The producer also confirmed that Ashwini Dutt will be the co-producer of the movie.
The Congress leader said talks were also being held with Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan. “Once we have the script, we will start shooting,” he said.
Subbirami Reddy had announced at an event of Chiranjeevi’s “Khaidi No. 150” last month that he would want everyone from the megastar’s family to act in the multi-starrer.
However, some circles in Telugu film industry had said that the film will not become a reality, given different political ideologies of the two brothers.
The two brothers are also said to have differences on many issues. Pawan was not happy with the manner in which Chiranjeevi merged his Praja Rajyam Party with Congress.
Pawan floated Jana Sena in 2014 and campaigned for BJP-TDP alliance while his elder brother led the Congress party’s poll campaign in Andhra Pradesh.
Pawan is gearing up for a more active role in politics and has announced that he will contest the 2019 elections.

It looks like firebrand actress-cum-YSR Congress party MLA R K Roja has become the sole target for the ruling Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh, so much that she has been under attack not only from the party side, but also from the government side.
Even as the Telugu Desam Party legislators like Peethala Sujatha, Uppuleti Kalpana and Bonda Uma have launched a vitriolic attack on Roja for questioning chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for not allowing to participate in the National Women’s Conference, the Naidu government forced the Andhra Pradesh police officers to step up the attack on her.
On Thursday, the AP Police Officers’ Association demanded a public apology from Roja for “hurting the sentiments of the police” by making unsavoury comments against them.
Reacting strongly to her comments that the police had acted like stooges of Naidu and that they had arrested her against the rules, the association said everything was done as per the law and constitution.
“We are not stooges of anyone. We are servants of people and protectors of law. If we feel there is a possibility of law and order breakdown, we shall act. That is what we have done when Roja came to Vijayawada,” the association said and demanded that Roja tender a public apology, lest she face the legal action.

Telangana’s two ‘Big Brothers’ – KCR and Kodandaram were the face of Telangana movement till the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh. During the intensified T movement between 2009 and 2014, the two leaders led the struggle in perfect coordination and sent a strong message that the duo were inseparable till they were active in politics.
However, soon after the formation of Telangana state and before 2014 elections, political equations started changing. The main reason for arising differences between the two leaders was Kodandaram tilted towards the Congress and met several top leaders even before KCR met AICC president Sonia Gandhi to extend gratitude.
KCR wanted to give a prominent place to Kodandaram but the JAC leader irked the TRS chief by approaching Congress high command clandestinely and also bargained for seats to his JAC leaders. KCR invited Kodandaram for talks on seat sharing and also preparation of TRS manifesto. But, the JAC leader turned down the proposal and clarified that he would remain a ‘non-political’ force in Telangana.
Another political theory doing rounds in the JAC circles was KCR was not happy with Kodandaram for joining hands with BJP, Congress, TDP and left parties. Giving prominence to non-TRS parties in the JAC did not go well among TRS leadership.
TRS leaders said the JAC was formed in coordination with TRS. KCR played a key role in the creation of JAC by holding marathon meetings with employee unions, SC, ST, minority, BC unions and other social organizations at TRS bhavan. KCR was the brain behind the formation of Telangana JAC. In fact, KCR stood behind Kodandaram and strengthen his hands to become a mass leader in Telangana.
The JAC leaders said that Kodandaram differed with KCR’s strategy in sustaining the Telangana movement. Kodandaram wanted to join hands with all the political organizations fighting for Telangana but the TRS wanted to hold the mantle in its hand only. TRS leadership supported JAC for joining of hands with all social organizations but expressed strong reservations on joining with all political parties for Telangana on single platform.
