Bollywood’s box-office hit machine Salman Khan has shown his stamina yet again. The actor’s latest Eid release, Sultan, shattered all the box-office records in 2016 and has earned nearly Rs 36.54 Crore all India nett on its opening day. However, Sultan still failed to break the record set by none other than Tollywood’s pride, Baahubali, which released exactly a year ago in 2015. Baahubali’s all India opening day nett was 42.16 Crore, including all the dubbing versions.
Leave alone Baahubali, Sultan didn’t even surpass Salman’s last year’s Diwali release Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’s day 1 nett of Rs 40.35 Crore and also missed Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year’s 37 Crore by a whisker.Meanwhile, several other trade analysts are predicting that the movie could also pull off a rare feat by becoming the fastest Rs 200 Crore film. As the film has opened to unanimous positive reviews all over and given that it has a 5-day opening weekend, with Thursday being Eid, trade analysts are predicting that Sultan could surely collect Rs 300 Crore plus.
And there are also chances of the film collecting Rs 400 Crore in India alone, a record never seen or heard before. Will Sultan beat Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s final worldwide gross in its full run? A lot depends on how the film will sustain in the weekdays.
Highest 1st Day Collections of 2016:

Fan 19.20 cr
House Full-3 15.21 cr
Airlift 12.35 cr
Baaghi 11.94 cr

Hours after Thursday’s bombing in Kishoreganj, Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan blamed “home-grown elements” for the attack. In an exclusive interview with The Hindu, Mr. Khan said, “I am still saying that these are local boys. They are brainwashed, as it was done earlier [to dislodge the Awami League government], and these attacks were conducted through them, these are home-grown elements. We can identify a pattern in these attacks. The way it was conducted earlier and now have got identical patterns.”
Four people, including two policemen, have been confirmed dead in Thursday’s terror attack. “Two militants are taken into custody and six police personnel are injured,” Mr. Khan said.“Police have done a remarkable job. They stopped the militants at least a kilometre before the historic Eidgah Maidan [field] of Sholakia, where lakhs of people assembled for Thursday’s prayer. The force bravely fought the militants, even while grenades were hurled on them by the militants and thus they [police] saved many lives. Otherwise, it could have been bigger,” he said.
Mr. Khan refused to comment on whether the attack was masterminded by another country. “We are investigating the incidents and we would get to know soon.”
Whenever there is a positive development in Andhra Pradesh or a major project is announced, the pro-Chandrababu Naidu media gives a lot of hype to it attributing to his administrative skills and his vast experience in delivering good governance. But when there are any negative developments, the same media blame it on the officials for keeping the chief minister in dark creating embarrassing situation to him. They do not consider it as Naidu’s lack of control over administration or his own failures.
Take for example, the latest controversy over copying of the Telangana government’s data to get good rankings in the Ease of Doing Business. When the Telangana government lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police and wrote a letter to the Centre over copying of its data by the AP government, Naidu sought to refute the allegations saying there was no need for it to copy as it had already got good track record.
His media manager Parakala Prabhakar, too, gave a strong retort. However, when the Telangana government came out with proofs, Naidu government went silent. Now, the pro-Naidu media has started saying that it could be an official goof-up and Naidu might not have any idea about it.
A few days ago, when there was a controversy over demolition of temples in Vijayawada which triggered a major controversy leading to clashes between the TDP and the BJP leaders, the media tried to create the impression that Naidu was not aware of it and it all happened due to over-action of the officials.May be Naidu is really not aware of the happenings in the government as he is too busy touring foreign countries!
The High Court division issue has got the two Telugu states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana entangled in a murky war of words. While Telangana is hell-bent on dividing the High Court, AP has been largely silent over the issue, adding fuel to Telangana’s ire.On the other hand, political analysts are terming AP’s silence as a strategic move keeping in mind the pending cases on the Leader of Opposition YS Jagan. The Babu government is also stating that there is no need to divide the High Court in a hurried manner as the State’s Reorganisation Act entertains AP with equal rights in the High Court for 10 years.
Chandrababu is of opinion that the construction of the High Court building and lawyers quarters will be a time taking process and states that division or shifting of High Court is unnecessary at the moment despite KCR promising that he will provide the necessary accommodation facilities.
All said and done, the Babu government’s motives behind this strategic silence is primarily to target Jagan. All the disproportionate assets cases by the CBI on YS Jagan were filed in Telangana and a division of the High Court would mean that the cases will be shifted to Telangana High Court and the Telangana government will have total control over Jagan’s cases.Babu is in no mood to give this advantage to Jagan in this regard and he may push for hearings and further investigation Jagan’s cases in the combined High Court itself. Until then, AP government will go all out on its decision to oppose the High Court’s division.
It’s common knowledge that film industry has a dark side to it. While there exists casting couch for female actors for bagging roles, male actors undergo various kinds of extortion. Especially, several directors and producers take/demand money from new actors who wish to be seen on screen and make it big. Since the competition for roles is heavy, money plays major role than talent and whoever pays money would get work. Especially sons of rich people become victims to a few filmmakers.
In order to make their acting dream into reality, these newbies to falling prey to few greedy persons who’re cashing in on the victim’s passion. For instance, in a recently released dud, the film’s lead actor said to have paid some 30-Lakh odd to get the chance. A director associated with the film reportedly taken the amount. The director in the past too taken some amounts from few other actors to cast in his films.
This in turn is affecting the industry chain as whole as many less-talented people are entering diminishing the quality of films. Let’s hope people would realise that these things won’t work in the long run and such opportunities would only be helpful for debut and from second film on wards it’s their own talent that bring them chances.
