Mumbai: Chinese consumer goods manufacturing giant Xiaomi has been riding on the success of its affordable, almost-premium handsets for quite a long time in India. Its products have been accepted extensively in the country, be it due to affordable pricing or the overall product.According to a report by GizmoChina, the company is now looking to expand its portfolio and enter the premium segment. Yes! It is planning to launch a 4,000 Yuan device (Rs 40,000 approximately).
The report also said that the company’s co-founder Liwan Jiang has confirmed the same and believes that fans will still purchase the phone even though it will be expensive. He also pointed out that the price wouldn’t matter so much as the specifications on offer will surpass the value.Earlier, Xiaomi entered the Indian market with a disruptive, premium class, budgeted device—the Mi 3—and have stuck to the mid-tier smartphone category since then. However, the company is definitely looking to stomp its authority in the high-end handset market with the upcoming high-end release.
Though it is going to be really difficult to topple bigger brands such as Samsung and Apple, nothing can be said surely. In a realistic scenario, it does not have the slightest of chance to surpass the bigger guns but if Xiaomi manages to pull something magical out of the hat, it might just succeed. The bigger challenge, however, is changing its reputation in the market from a affordable smartphone manufacturer to a prime player.
As of now, the company is slowly climbing up the ranks with its recent releases—the Mi 5 and the Mi Max—but it really needs to do something out-of-the-box to attract the attention of the customers.Recent reports suggested that the company are looking forward to introduce two new devices—Mi Note 2 and Mi 5s—in the market soon. Both the devices will feature pressure sensitive displays, just like Apple’s iPhone 6s.
Speaking at the Aspen Ideas Festival last week, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella hailed MS Excel as the company’s finest achievement. “Think about a world without Excel. That’s just impossible for me,” Nadella said. While MS Excel changed the way in which accountants everywhere crunched numbers, Nadella, in a way, is changing the way Microsoft works. Business Insider reported that though former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer cared more about business, Nadella, a coder at heart, is more interested in developing products that people can use.
At the Aspen Ideas Festival, Nadella spoke about how Microsoft’s first product was a BASIC interpreter that helped boost the productivity of a programmer and added that it was his self-given mandate to “understand, or rekindle, what it was that drove success, or drove our passion.”Much on the same lines here are four things Microsoft did that really made a difference to the world.
Saved Apple
Yes, if it weren’t for Microsoft, the world wouldn’t still have Apple. Travelling back in time to 1997, Apple was apparently struggling to stay afloat. Apple founder Steve Jobs decided to call his “frenimy” Bill Gates and after some high-powered negotiation, Jobs famously announced at Macworld 1997: “We have to let go of the notion that for Apple to win, Microsoft needs to lose.” Microsoft invested $150 million into Apple in exchange for non-voting shares and continued support for Office for Mac.
Surface Pro
A tablet that took on laptop and created a new type of computers, it’s hard to say whether Microsoft has changed the world with the Surface Pro or whether it’s still in the midst of doing so. When Microsoft rolled out the first Surface Pro back in 2013, it was the Redmond-based company’s first attempt at making its own devices and while the first-gen Suraface Pro was more of a jack of all trades, Microsoft has allowed the Surface Pro to hone its skills well enough to inspire other manufacturers to try their hand.
HoloLens
With the HoloLens, its impact is going to be felt in the near future. Microsoft’s crack at augmenter reality (AR), the HoloLens opens a world of opportunity. What’s really interesting to know is that the HoloLens is on board the International Space Station and is being used by the astronauts there to simulate repair sessions and even give them an idea of what a component should look like after it’s been fixed.
Made PCs mainstream
Saving the biggest contribution for last, if it weren’t for Microsoft, the PC wouldn’t have gone mainstream. As Business Insider points out, unlike Apple, Microsoft valued software over hardware. Not only did it allow third-party manufacturers to produce the hardware, thus applying econolies of scale and Moore’s Law to make things cheaper, by ensuring PC users had more applications they could run on their Windows PCs, Microsoft also ensured Windows remained popular. If one were to think about it, Microsoft did to PCs what Google is doing to Android smartphones. By allowing third-party device-makers to adopt the OS, Google’s made Android the most popular smartphone OS.
Looks like, it’s raining remakes in Telugu. Telugu filmmakers are in rush to remake Tamil films. While Ram Charan’s Dhruva (Thani Oruvan in Tamil), Chiranjeevi’s Kathilantodu (Kaththi in Tamil) are in making and actors like Pawan Kalyan prepping up for Vedhalam remake and many other stars are in pipeline to star in remakes, now it’s the turn of Akkineni hero Naga Chaitanya.
Buzz is Chaitu is toying with the idea of doing another Tamil remake in Telugu. Chaitu is contemplating to remake Metro in Telugu. The talks are in nascent phase and if all goes as per the plan, Chaitu would reprise the role of Shirish played in the original. Billed to be a crime thriller, the film deals with the concept of chain snatching and how the protagonist takes revenge against chain snatcher who killed his mother in fit of rage and snatched her chain.
The film made in a shoe-string budget went onto become sleeper hit in Tamil. Apparently, Chaitu is hinting at few changes in the script to suit the Telugu nativity. And the talks are still going on and yet to be finalised. Producer Ram Talluri, of Chuttalabbayi, has bought the Telugu remake rights. After Tadakha, this would be another Tamil remake for Chaitu.
TV Anchor-turned-heroine Rashmi Gautam is skipping the promotions of her upcoming film Antham. This has become the talking point in media circles. So far, the makers have organised three press conferences and Rashmi hasn’t attended even one. Little did she talk about the film anywhere or she clearly hinting that she is avoiding about the film which is just two days away from the release.
The Jabardasth anchor is apparently not in touch with the makers and she’s also a bit disappointed with the way she is shown raunchily in the film’s trailer. Looks like, Rashmi is a bit worried about the image of Antham and the film’s after release affects and smartly avoiding them all by skipping promotions.
Rashmi’s last film Guntur Talkies too panned by critics. However, the film managed to recover monies due to its double meaning dialogues, bold content. Let’s see how her immediate release would fare at the marquee. There’s no denying that Antham is purely selling on Rashmi.
Niharika might have never expected that she will get such a shocking response from the audience from her debut film Oka Manasu. This jolt has left her reeling and has put her in deep confusion.
What kind of films she should do now, is the million dollar question for her. The thoughts of going back to television might have also been striking her mind as of now. She was a popular face on TV but the way she was made to do a over aged emotional character did not go well with many.
Two things might be going in mind for Niharika as of now. Do a light hearted film or go back to television and get some more experience and exposure. Even the mega camp might have been in deep confusion as to what to do with her next. But knowing them from the past experiences, there will be something big and planned for her in terms of her career. But for others, will she go back to television and get back her lost respect will be the million dollar question.
