Will Smith, Lennox Lewis, King Abdullah to be present at Muhammad Ali’s funeral
Boxing veterans and big names from the entertainment circuit will be present during the funeral of Muhammad Ali in his home town Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday. The legendary boxer, an inspiration to millions, died in a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, on June 3, 2016, due to a “septic shock”, as mentioned by one of his family spokespersons.Ali was suffering from the Parkinson’s disease for more than three decades and he was admitted to the hospital owing to a respiratory issue. He, however, couldn’t fight back in the battle against survival this time around and was declared dead at the age of 74.
Hollywood superstar Will Smith, who played the main character in the biopic of the legend — Ali — back in 2001, will be present during the funeral of the boxer and will also be carrying his coffin. Smith was nominated for an Academy Award as well as for the Golden Globe award for his performances in the movie.Also present as a pallbearer on Friday will be Lennox Lewis, yet another boxing great. Lewis became the undisputed heavyweight champion in boxing after defeating Evander Holyfield in 1999.
“I am humbled, and honoured, beyond words to help see my hero, Muhammad Ali, off to his final resting place,” the BBC quoted Lewis as saying in a statement. “Ali has always been an enormous inspiration to me, not only in my boxing career, but also in life. His journey began 74 years ago, and in that time, he not only transformed the world of sport, he used sport to transform the world.”It’s my extreme pleasure, and complete honour, to be asked to help him complete the final steps of his life journey,” the 50-year-old added.
The other pallbearers will be Ali’s cousins John Grady and Jan Wadell, nephew Ibn Ali, former brother-in-law Komawi Ali, family friend John Ramsey, as well as Jerry Ellis, the brother of Ali’s former sparring partner Jimmy Ellis.The BBC had earlier confirmed that many world leaders, including former US President Bill Clinton, Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and King Abdullah of Jordan, will be speaking during Ali’s funeral. Also among the speakers will be Ali’s widow Lonnie, daughter Maryum, sports journalist Bryant Gumbel as well as American veteran entertainer Billy Crystal.
Pawan Believed Him; But Not Tamil Audiences!
It is difficult to believe that Tamil director S J Surya, who made the blockbuster film Vaali, made a disaster like “Puli” with Pawan Kalyan.Though he made sensational movies at the beginning of his career, the string of flop films he had made in the recent past exposed his bankruptcy of creativity. He became closer to Telugu audiences by dubbing his super hit Tamil films into Telugu.
Interestingly, Tamil audiences have started ignoring him following his series of flop films, but he continued to attract the Telugu audiences, though both his earlier straight Telugu films – Naani with Mahesh Babu and Puli with Pawan Kalyan were commercially failures.He did not get many chances later; but now, there are reports that Pawan has agreed to do a film with him.
However, in Tamil, Surya has failed to convince the Tamil actors. He tried to convince Vijay to do Khushi-2, but the actor has not been entertaining him. So, Khushi-2 is most unlikely to get on to the track. Now, he says he would remake the film with himself in the lead role.So, it is not so easy to trap Tamil stars, as he had done with Pawan Kalyan!

India to open new consulate in Seattle
“We hope to open a new Indian consulate in Seattle,” Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar said after the conclusion of the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Barack Obama at the White House.This was reflected in a joint statement issued after Modi-Obama talks.“Both sides committed to open additional consulates in each other’s country. India will be opening a new consulate in Seattle and the US will open a new consulate at a mutually agreed location in India,” the joint statement said.
Apart from its embassy in Washington, India currently have consulates in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston and Atlanta.In the joint statement the two countries also announced a series of measures to encourage people-to-people contacts.Mr. Modi and Mr. Obama announced that the United States and India will be Travel and Tourism Partner Countries for 2017, and committed to facilitate visas for each other’s nationals.According to a senior administration official the U.S. plans to increase its number of people to issue visas at its diplomatic missions in India.
Reflecting on the strong educational and cultural bonds between the two countries, Mr. Modi and Mr. Obama welcomed the growing number of Indian students studying in the U.S. which increased by 29 per cent to nearly 1,33,000 students in 2014-2015.They also look forward to increased opportunities for American students to study in India. They also appreciated their governments’ joint efforts through the Fulbright-Kalam Climate Fellowship to develop a cohort of climate scientists to confront the shared challenge of global climate change.
Recognizing its mutual goal of strengthening greater people-to-people ties, the two leaders intend to renew efforts to intensify dialogue to address issues affecting the citizens of both countries that arise due to differences in the approaches of legal systems, including issues relating to cross-country marriage, divorce and child custody, the joint statement said.The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India issued more than 76,000 student visas in Fiscal Year 2015. Indian students accounted for the second-largest group of foreign students in the United States in the 2014-2015 school year, with the number of students from India in the U.S. increasing by over 29 per cent to a record high of nearly 1,33,000.
Through the Passport to India program, the U.S. government encourages American students to study in India. At the same time, more than a million Americans travelled to India in 2015.“The announcement that the U.S. and India will be Travel and Tourism Partners in 2017 aims to develop joint efforts and programs to grow these people-to-people and economic linkages.Similarly, the implementation of the Global Entry Program will facilitate travel between the two countries,” the White House said in a fact sheet.
