Ease of doing business: India jumps 13 positions in one year to rank at second in 2016
India is now ranked as the second best among a list of developing countries when it comes to ease of doing business. This year’s list shows that the South Asian country has moved 13 positions from last year when it was ranked at 15th, below Malaysia, Brazil, Indonesia and Sri Lanka, among others.China has retained the top slot for the second successive year, according to A.T. Kearney 2016 Global Retail Development Index (GRDI), which ranks top 30 developing countries for retail investment worldwide, reports PTI.
The study said that higher economic growth and simple regulations governing foreign direct investment (FDI) have enabled it to jump 13 positions over a span of one year. The GRDI, started in 2001, analyses 25 macroeconomic and retail-specific variables. The improvement endorses India as a market with huge potential.”India has relaxed several key Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) regulations in single-brand retail and this has paved the way for multinational firms to enter the market,” PTI quoted Debashish Mukherjee, a partner with A T Kearney and co-head of the Consumer Industries & Retail Products Practice for India and Southeast Asia, as saying.
India’s retail market has grown exponentially between 2013 and 2015, at a compound annual growth rate of 8.8 percent during the years, with annual sales crossing the $1-trillion mark, according to A T Kearney, a London-based business consultancy.India was placed at 130 among 189 countries on ease of doing business, according to the World Bank’s Doing Business Report 2016 released in December last year. It marked a significant increase over a two-year period. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a reference to it while speaking about his government’s achievements on completing two years in office.
“In World Bank’s ratings of countries in terms of ease of doing business, India has jumped about 12 points in a short span of time,” he said, as posted on his website. From a commencement of business perspective, India moved up nine spots to 155 in 2016 from 164 in the previous year, according to the World Bank report.

Samantha Desperate To Steal The Credit
“A Aa” is on its way to become one of the top hits in Tollywood. The movie has got terrific openings in first weekend in India and USA. In USA, the movie has set new record by becoming the third biggest opening Telugu movie ever. The major portion for the movie’s success goes to its director Trivikram and his brand image. People are loving the movie’s simplicity, normal dialoguesThe film is not at all women-centric movie although the movie begins with the voice-over narration by Samantha. It is like any other Telugu commercial movie that is driven by hero. But Samantha is desperately trying to snatch the credit from hero Nithin.
While Nithin is just enjoying the movie’s success silently and reacting with dignity, the movie’s heroine is on overdrive of promotion to establish that the film is succeeding at box-office because of her.The film has three fights involving Nithin, couple of duets and some scenes that elevate heroism. Yet, some say there is an attempt from Samantha to steal credit from Nithin.
In last few movies including ‘Theri’, ’24’ and ‘Brahmotsavam’, Samantha received severe criticism. This was her make or break film. So once the film is declared hit she is trying every way to prove that it is her movie, her success.Samantha deserves the accolades for “A Aa” as she looked beautiful in the movie and has come up with good performance. But she should also know that it is not just her movie.
Top Director Cheated By His Brother?
Rurmours are rife in film nagar that a top director is cheated by his own brother. While the director’s maiden production venture was a sleeper hit, his brother who was involved in the production said to have reaped out the profits of the film. This apparently pushed the director into financial woes. Although he scored a hit with his directorial in between, it wasn’t easy for the director-producer to overcome the phase.
Since it’s his own brother, the director too kept tight lipped and don’t want to make it a public issue as he don’t want his family to be in news for wrong reasons. And it became talking point in close circles of the director as he is even avoiding going home and spending most of the time in his office.
Now the director is planning to produce couple of films to overcome this phase. And he is very keen on the stories of his production and told his team to work well. The director is also focusing on his directorial ventures.
No ‘Okka Ammayi Thappa’ Without Naidu
First-time director Rajasimha Tadinada says forthcoming Telugu release “Okka Ammayi Thappa” would not have been possible without the support of his cinematographer Chhota K. Naidu.”There’s no ‘Okka Ammayi Thappa’ without Chhota sir. This is a very complicated script to make and it had already been rejected 13 times by several producers. Had it not been for his vision and support, we could have failed miserably,” Rajasimha told IANS.Starring Sundeep Kishan and Nithya Menen, nearly 60 per cent of the film unfolds on a flyover.
“Honestly, we didn’t have the budget to lavishly spend on visual effects. We needed someone who could shoot the film under a tight budget and still deliver quality visuals. Chhota sir delivered us exactly that,” he said.”If you’re planning a birthday party, you can order food for Rs 5,000. However, when you make it at home, you end up spending much less and you make sure it tastes well. Chhota sir ensured that he gave me the kind of output nobody could’ve given me on this budget,” he added.
Explaining in detail about Chhota K. Naidu’s contribution, he said: “To shoot on the flyover, we needed 1,000 junior artistes. They were required to shoot with the lead pair. Had we missed a call sheet, we could have ended up spending nearly a lakh more on the junior artistes.”Chhota sir ensure he shot all the important sequences with the junior artistes first and then added scenes he shot with the lead pair.”
The story was inspired from an incident from the director’s own life.”A few years ago, I got stuck on a flyover for two hours. It inspired me to write a story and in the film, the hero and the heroine meet on the flyover and fall in love. They get stuck for eight hours and what happens during that interim, forms the story,” he said and added that there is also a suspense angle to the story.
The director said the film was destined to be made with Sundeep.”Sundeep fought for this film. He believed in it blindly and we had planned to work on this film twice earlier. The project got started and got shelved due to financial reasons. He told me that whenever I make the film, he’d come and work,” he said.Produced by Anji Reddy, the film is slated for release in cinemas on Friday.
