Google has no plans to make own smartphones right now: Sunder Pichai
New York: India-born Google CEO Sunder Pichai has said the digital giant has no plans to make its own smartphones right now and will continue to collaborate with its original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), according to media reports.”Our plan is still to work with OEMs to make phones..Nexus, we are investing more effort into them, you’ll see us put more thought into Nexus devices, there are categories beyond phones, we’ll be opinionated where we need to be to push the category forward,” Sunder Pichai said in an interview to Vox Media’s Code Conference yesterday.
The company will “thoughtfully add more features” to Android on Nexus phones going forward, the Tech Crunch reported.”Android is a very open ecosystem, the answer may not be a global one player answering it every part of the world, you have great examples of regional players in places like India, China, which serve the needs of those markets very well,” he said.For now, however, it seems like the company is content with working with partners like its Nexus program, the report said.
“Globally it’s a very competitive marketplace. The smartphone industry, the hardware industry, it’s a very efficient industry. Even Amazon, they base it on Android too. I look at it and say Android is a large scale, open platform,” he said.Pichai also unveiled ‘Google Home’, a voice-activated product that brings ‘Google Assistant’ to any room in your house, a new messaging app called ‘Allo’ and video calling feature ‘Duo’ at the ‘Google I/O’.

Mumbai: Symantec on Wednesday announced the availability of Encryption Everywhere, a website security package available through web hosting providers.‘Encryption Everywhere’ lets web hosting providers integrate encryption into every website from the moment it is created.With the new web security service, hosting providers can offer a variety of flexible options, including basic website encryption, and a number of premium security packages with increasingly stronger levels of website validation, protection, and trust seals.
Encryption Everywhere was developed to support Symantec’s goal to secure 100 per cent of legitimate websites by 2018.“There are almost a billion websites today, yet only about 3 per cent of those sites are encrypted, which means cybercriminals have been able to make a good living off of the web’s lack of security,” said Roxane Divol, senior vice president and general manager, Website Security, Symantec.“Symantec is about to change the game for cybersecurity with Encryption Everywhere. It’s time to secure every legitimate website and win back security on the internet for every business and consumer.

Believe it or not, the Telangana government headed by K Chandrasekhar Rao is learnt to have spent over Rs 200 crore, or Rs 210 crore to be precise, on the publicity expenses for celebrating the second anniversary of its formation.The KCR government has issued advertisements for almost all the newspapers – sub-local, local, regional and national at a huge cost.All the major newspapers were given four-page jacket advertisements, each running into Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore depending on their circulation and popularity. Even newspapers of other States were also given ads extensively; and not to forget the electronic media advertisements.
Besides, the government spent big money on producing audio-visual films, outdoor publicity and digital publicity. Needless to say, not a single newspaper dared to write any negative story against KCR or the government.As expected, the Opposition parties attacked the TRS government for splurging money on publicity.AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh said it was shameful that he was spending hundreds of crores of rupees on advertisement to mark the second statehood day celebrations while people were dying in the state.
In a series of tweets, Singh said only one family has been benefitted in the last two years in Telangana-‘KCR family’.“Another Nero in the celebration mode when poor people are dying. Shame on you KCR!” he tweeted.
