Google Glass goes dark on its social media accounts

Share

google glass

New York: Four years after unveiling its wearable glass headset, Alphabet Inc’s Google shut down several social media accounts linked to the Glass gadget, ending its push to popularize the pricey eyeglasses with consumers. On Tuesday, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts for Google Glass were no longer active, a development first reported on the website 9to5Google. A statement on the Google Plus page said: “Hi Explorers, we’ve had a blast hanging out with you on G+ throughout the Explorer Program.” It went on to instruct users to get in touch with questions on the support page for Glass. The company declined to comment on the decision.

Google stopped selling Glass to consumers last year noting that it was time for a strategy reset, and the head of the Google X research lab has since then said that the hype surrounding the $1,500 device became overblown considering it was merely a prototype and not a finished product. Glass was greeted with enthusiasm among tech aficionados when it was first unveiled in 2012. But the device, which allows users to access e-mail messages on its eye-level screen and to record video with a tiny camera, quickly ran into problems. Some mocked its awkward appearance, while others expressed concern it could be used to make video recordings surreptitiously.

On Twitter, many interpreted the disappearance of Glass’s social accounts on Tuesday to mean a final end to efforts to market the product to consumers. Jonas Haberkorn (@JonasHaberkorn) tweeted: “#GoogleGlass for consumers is dead, yes really dead.” Meanwhile, one user lamented the disappearance of the device’s social presence.

Mark Tompkins (@javamarket), who identifies himself as a trader and former hedge fund partner on Twitter, said: “Disappointed in @google’s decision 2 remove #GoogleGlass history from FB & @twitter. We learn best from actual recorded history. #coverup”

Kerry presses China on North Korea, South China Sea

Share

inter

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called on Wednesday for China to do more to rein in North Korea’s nuclear activities and decrease tensions over disputed parts of the South China Sea. Wrapping up an eight-day, around-the-world diplomatic mission in Beijing, Mr. Kerry hailed U.S.-China cooperation on several issues, including the Iran nuclear deal and climate change, but said consensus on North Korea and the South China Sea remained a work in progress.

“Clearly we have several important issues that we need to find the way forward on,” Mr. Kerry told reporters as he began his meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Mr. Kerry called North Korea “a major challenge to global security” and noted U.S. “concerns and activities in the South China Sea.” “We have proven … when our two countries find common ground and work together, we can make things happen,” he said. “And it is my hope that today will be constructive and we will find a way forward.” In his opening remarks, Mr. Wang mentioned both issues briefly and said he was eager to hear what Mr. Kerry had to say. But he offered no hint as to whether China would respond to the entreaties beyond saying he hoped the two nations would be able “to deepen our understanding and mutual trust to deepen our strategic cooperation.”

The U.S. badly wants China to take a firmer stance in urging North Korea to end its nuclear testing. China is North Korea’s main link to the outside world, and American officials say Beijing isn’t doing enough to persuade North Korea to stop the tests and return to disarmament talks. The so-called six-party talks between the North and South Korea, the United States, China, Russia and Japan have been stalled since they were last held in December 2008. Pyongyang has since conducted three nuclear tests, including the latest on Jan. 6, sparking worries the country has made progress in its bomb programme.

Mr. Kerry, who after meeting with Mr. Wang was set to see State Councillor Yang Jiechi and hoped to meet later with President Xi Jinping, also called on China to halt land reclamation and construction in disputed areas of the South China Sea, which have alarmed its smaller neighbors. Mr. Kerry arrived in China from stops in Laos and Cambodia, where he called on the two members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to present a united front in dealing with increasing Chinese assertiveness over the South China Sea claims. His visits to Vientiane and Phnom Penh come ahead of a summit with the leaders of all 10 ASEAN nations that President Barack Obama will host next month in California.

China, which claims sovereignty of much of the territory in the South China Sea, rejects claims from countries like the Philippines and Vietnam and has bristled at U.S. warnings that its activities threaten the freedom of navigation in some of the world’s busiest commercial shipping lanes. Taiwan, Malaysia and Brunei also have overlapping claims in the strategically vital sea, through which around $5 trillion in world trade passes each year. The U.S. says it takes no position on the claims but says developments in the South China Sea are a national security interest. It has urged that the disputes be settled peacefully and that a binding code of conduct be established for the area.

Tensions have been especially high since Beijing transformed seven disputed reefs into islands, where it is now constructing runways and facilities that rival claimants say can be used militarily. China has said it built the islands primarily to foster safe civilian sea travel and fishing. In response, the U.S. sent a guided-missile destroyer close to one of the Chinese-built islands, called Subi Reef, in October in a challenge to Beijing’s territorial claims, sparking warnings from China. U.S. officials vowed to continue manoeuvres to protect freedom of navigation and overflight.

Recent developments, including China’s movement of an oil rig into a zone disputed with Vietnam and warnings against Philippines overflight of what it claims to be its territory, have raised those levels of concern. China dismisses the warnings as unwarranted, but has harshly criticized a U.S.-Philippines defence pact that allows American forces, warships and planes to be based temporarily in local military camps. China says that will “escalate tensions and undermine peace and stability in the region,” echoing language the United States uses to criticize China’s actions.

The influence of Pawan Kalyan factor on GHMC elections in favor of TDP, BJP is although questionable but the intention of Power Star to remain distant away from current Baldia elections isn’t sweet news for his friendly parties. As campaigning for the municipal elections gained momentum in Hyderabad in last two days with parties organizing public meetings and Padyatras in respective segments, TDP wanted to gain the mileage by roping in Pawan Kalyan at this last moment.

If reports are to be believed, Sujana Chowdary personally called up Pawan Kalyan yesterday evening with a request to take few rounds campaigning in Kukatpally area. However, Power Star is said to have diplomatically put down the proposal quoting ‘Sardaar Gabbar Singh’ movie hectic shooting schedules are eating all his time.

Apparently, Pawan Kalyan isn’t interested to link his name with GHMC elections and is hiding away from TDP, BJP top leadership. Naidu can easily analyze these situations and he is wisely using other leaders like Sujana Chowdary to force Power Star. Of course, these tricks also aren’t paying. Meanwhile, we are also seeing Nara Lokesh exploiting the best out of GHMC elections to grow in political stardom.

The trailer begins with background base voice of Prakash Raj hinting a hair raising thriller. Behind every incident, there are three stories. One is what people imagine it to be, second is what the person involved in it reveals and last is what actually happened.

An unfortunate incident happens in a routine and regular love story of Shourya and Nethra. With lot of chaos in it and when Police show off a butcher Knife as a murder weapon, the narration becomes intense with each frame hinting us a promising thriller movie from Dasarath and Manoj.

Manoj played Shourya in a soft-guy like never before and his character looked totally a contrast from his all previous roles. He appeared more matured and composed in Shourya.

Dasarath too was struggling after his last decent hit Mr Perfect and Greeku Veerudu left him in more leisure. Same is the thing with Manoj’s Current Theega and Attack is still to see the light. Looks like the duo came up with an intelligent thriller which was not at all expected from both of them.

Power fans can’t just see their star giving a flop at this moment, thanks to Gabbar Singh and Attarintiki Daredi. But one news making rounds seems to be giving shivers in the spines of fans.

Rumors had it that Pawan Kalyan has been getting prompt visits from director SJ Suryah and is in all plans to act in his direction. SJ Suryah’s Puli was the biggest disaster of Pawan kalyan films and his fans obviously don’t want him back to their favourite star.

An addon to this update seems to be in the name of controversial young music director Anirudh. This young talent walked out of two recent films Bruce lee and A.. Aa leaving wrong opinion on audience minds. And now SJ Suryah is heard to be in plans of bringing Anirudh for Pawan kalyan movie.

No one on this earth, except Pawan Kalyan knows whether this film is happening or not. Dasari too announced a movie with Pawan Kalyan earlier, but nothing happened till date. But speculations make big noise always. So wait for official confirmation.

Made as ‘Irudhi Suttru’ in Tamil, the film gathered superb excitement for Maddy’s boxer look and the whole drama running in sports backdrop is forever something new for our audience.

In fact, Madhavan never got involved in this boxing sport before. It was a real challenge for him to bulk up the body and also to maintain an age factor of a retired boxer. ‘Building the muscle do not need whether you are a vegetarian or non vegetarian. As I am a veggie, I traveled all the way to Australia to meet diet experts who just gave me a diet high on greens and less on carbs. Then my 45 minutes gym for each day is what you see me today,’ Maddy said about his body building secret.

‘Saala Khadoos’ directed by Kongara Sudha Prasad is the story of retired boxer Madhavan finding an aspiring boxer Rithiksa Singh and then training her hard to become a champion. The movie is releasing amidst high expectations and Madhavan is confident of delivering a knock out punch at Box Office.

Nagarjuna Beats All Sankranti Oppositions

nnag

As we come close to three weeks post Sankranti, this is enough time for trade circles to come at a conclusion on financial statuses of four big films released during the season. Among all, the speculation of Akkineni Nagarjuna eligible to be declared as unanimous winner has come true now with ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ rocking at Box Office still even today.

If over budget and overtly class treatment from Sukumar on Junior NTR affected overall result of ‘Nannaku Prematho’ with domestic buyers getting very close to breakeven, ‘Express Raja’ from Sharwanand and UV Creations for sure guaranteed minimal profits and lastly ‘Dictator’ starring Balakrishna under Sriwass direction initially gathered divided reports has also accumulated mind blowing numbers from B, C centers and can also be called a safe venture.

Above all, Nagarjuna’s ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ released last in the race has beaten all three with a wide margin. With extremely high ROI assured, none would have expected SCN to get near breaking ‘Manam’ records. Reports say, SCN had full houses in many areas yesterday with Republic Day holiday adding to buyers luck. Anything above Rs.40 Crores business is considered as One Rupee benefit that is 100 per cent financial gain for all those who invested One Rupee on it. That’s the real in kick in cinema business.
