Allow Cock-Fights Also!

Chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for paving the way for the conduct of jallikattu (bull taming) in different parts of Tamil Nadu during Pongal. The chief minister said she was happy to learn that the Union ministry of environment, forests and climate change issued a notification on Thursday giving permission to conduct jallikattu.

“I am very grateful to you for your prompt response in the matter, which has enabled the conduct of jallikattu, a sport which upholds traditional cultural values and traditions of Tamil Nadu, and has great historical significance,” she said in her letter.

If Tamil Nadu can be given permission to conduct ‘Jalikattu’, then why cannot Andhra also be allowed to hold its cock-fights which is also a traditional affair in our part of the country? It is this favoritism which is maddening.

Jayalalaitha is not part of the NDA but she is getting a far better response from Naidu than Chandrababu Naidu. That Modi was even prepared to have an ordinance issued for Jalikattu shows the different levels of respect, Modi has for Naidu and Jayalalitha.

‘Nannaku Prematho’ completed censor formalities Yesterday and the film received ‘U/A’ Certificate. Ever since the Censor report was out, Fans of NTR began doubting the Box Office outcome of the project. Yes, They have got a valid reason for it!

The total runtime of ‘Nannaku Prematho’ is somewhere close to 168 minutes. Its never easy to keep the viewers glued to the screens for such a long period and films with a run time exceeding 150 minutes have mostly received mixed response from the movie buffs.

In fact, Sukumar’s previous outing ‘1 – Nenokkadine’ received thumbs down from audience and one of the reasons behind it is a runtime of around 170 minutes. Yet, The Filmmaker hasn’t learnt anything from the failure and gone ahead with his conviction for ‘Nannaku Prematho’.

Of course, There are a few instances to say run time alone can’t decide the fate of a movie. We have films like Mohabbatein which lasts for 3 hr 36 min ending up as money spinners. Hopefully, ‘Nannaku Prematho’ fits in the same league.

TDP Is Behind Pawan Kalyan’s Move?

Speculations have already begun about the motive behind Pawan Kalyan’s sudden complaint against producer BVSN Prasad seeking clearance of old dues. Social media abuzz with the reports that Telugu Desam Party and Nandamuri Balakrishna who are up in arms against NTR Jr must be behind the Pawan Kalyan’s sudden complaint against BVSN Prasad. BVSN Prasad better known as Chatrapathi Prasad has produced “Nannaku Prematho” with NTR that is releasing on 13th January.

On the other hand, Balakrishna is releasing his “Dictator” on 14th January. Ever since, it has become clear that Nannaku Prematho would be competing with Dictator, Balakrishna and TDP have allegedly been acting against NTR and his movie. Reports in Telugu newspapers came that Balakrishna with the help of ruling TDP government is coercing theatre owners not to screen Nannaku Prematho in Andhra and Ceded areas. Since Pawan Kalyan is close to Chandrababu Naidu and supports TDP government, posts by general public on social media say that Pawan must have complained against BVSN Prasad on the suggestion by Balakrishna and TDP.

Pawan Kalyan in his complaint alleged that the producer is not heeding to his request for the clearance of dues from long time. As last option, he complained now, Pawan said. But NTR fans see feel that someone is trying hard to stall the release of Nannaku Prematho for ulterior reasons.

Censor Board’s U/A Certificates to All Big Films of Sankranthi

censor-board-ua-certificates-to-all-big-films-of-sankranthi_b_1201160552

Among Sankranthi films this year, three movie got ‘U/A’ certificate from the members of the Censor Board and they are Young Tiger NTR’s ‘Naannaku Prematho’, Natasimham Nandamuri Balakrishna’s ‘Dictator’ and King Nagarjuna’s ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’. Sharwanand’s ‘Express Raja’ got clean ‘U’ certificate. But why there is ‘A’ in ‘U/A’ of three big ventures? Checkout the story.

‘Naannaku Prematho’ is hitting the cinemas tomorrow. Initially, the Censor Board’s officials wanted to issue clean ‘U’ certificate to the movie with a few cuts. As the makers denied to the cuts, censor officials issued ‘U/A’ certificate with no cuts. Perhaps, there could some violent scenes in the movies which prompted censor officials issuing the certificate.

Balakrishna’s ‘Dictator’ had some spicy scenes of Sonal Chowhan and Aksha and is filled with some over the board action sequences. And lastly Anasuya made the difference ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ to be issued U/A instead of clean ‘U’ certificate.

Landmark fraud trial starts for Princess Cristina

Spain’s Princess Cristina went on trial Monday in a landmark criminal case, accused of helping bankroll a lavish lifestyle with funds her husband received from an alleged scheme to embezzle millions from public contracts for conferences and sporting events. Cristina and her husband, Inaki Urdangarin, said nothing during the proceedings as their lawyers and attorneys for 16 additional defendants argued why their clients should be excluded from the proceedings with charges dropped.

The 50-year-old Cristina, the sister of King Felipe VI, faces two counts of tax fraud, carrying a maximum prison sentence of eight years, for allegedly failing to declare taxes on personal expenses paid by a real estate company she owned with Urdangarin, an Olympic handball medalist turned businessman. A three-member panel of judges hearing the case will decide in coming weeks whether to side with her supporters or with an investigative judge who spent four years probing the case and ruled it could go forward because of evidence presented by a private anti-corruption group. The judges will have to weigh whether the couple criminally abused the Aizoon real estate consulting firm described in court papers as a “front company” to fund luxury vacations, throw parties at their modernist Barcelona mansion and pay for salsa dancing classes.

Under a quirk in Spanish law, groups like the Manos Limpias (Clean Hands) organization involved in the princess’ trial can pursue criminal charges against people when authorities decide against doing so. The trial marks the first time that a member of Spain’s royal family has faced criminal charges since the monarchy was restored in 1975. Urdangarin and others are accused of embezzling up to 6.2 million euros ($6.8 million) from contracts which were allegedly inflated or never performed. The princess’ husband, formerly the Duke of Palma, is accused of using his title to land the deals for the Noos Institute he ran with a business partner. Cristina and her husband entered court without speaking to reporters under tight security after authorities detained a protester found nearby with an anti-monarchy flag.

A small group was allowed to protest nearby after the proceedings began in sharp contrast to 2014 demonstrations by thousands of anti-monarchy protesters while Cristina answered questions posed by an investigative judge. There are so many defendants and lawyers plus reporters covering the case that judicial officials moved the trial from a courthouse to a sprawling complex on the outskirts of Palma de Mallorca normally used for public servant training courses. The case is being heard in the regional capital of Spain’s Balearic Islands because many of Urdangarin’s business deals under investigation were for the islands. Cristina denied knowledge of her husband’s activities during the 2014 closed-door court appearance, but judges decided she could be tried for tax fraud in 2007 and 2008.

The details about the couple’s lifestyle that emerged from the pre-trial investigation from 2011-2014 outraged Spaniards as the country teetered on the edge of an economic crisis and unemployment hit 27 per cent. The case also hurt Cristina’s father, former King Juan Carlos already smarting from a backlash after he broke his hip during a 2012 elephant-hunting trip seen as an example of royal excess. He abdicated in 2014, saying Spain needed fresh royal blood. On taking the throne, King Felipe pledged to restore public trust in Spain’s monarchy. He later stripped Cristina and her older sister Princess Elena of their roles as official members of the royal family though they have not given up their slots of succession in line for the throne. Testimony is scheduled to begin February 9 and the trial is expected to last until June.

CES 2016: Tech to touch you!

Share

dc-Cover-20160110224255.original

The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is perfectly timed in the first few days of January to tell the world what’s in store tech-wise, this year. Problem is, the launches are a combo of the worthwhile and the weird. Many of the gee-whiz announcements were too bizarre to interest Indians — most of us are not yet ready put down the equivalent of $199 for the “world’s first robot dog” named CHIP (for Canine Home Intelligence Pet), or  would want  an olfactory start to our day with Sensorwake, a $109 scent-based alarm clock  which substitutes the buzzer with the canned fragrance of coffee or croissants.

So here’s a round up of what was both clever and sensible at CES, and what’s most likely to reach Indian markets some time this year. Many of the  most affordable PCs — like the Aakash Tablet and Intel’s  Classmate — have originated in India. But other corners of the developing world are innovative too, as CES reminded us. From Brazil comes the Endless PC a barebones computer that recognizes that an Internet connection may be hard to get — or pay for.  The  Endless Mini is a spherical cutie, running on an ARM chip and a Linux OS. It uses most of its  storage (24 or 32 GB) to pack in full encyclopedias like Wikipedia, educational lectures from Khan Academy, recipes, health information and over 100 other apps, for offline use whenever Internet is expensive, slow, or unavailable. It can also be connected to any TV.

In its cheapest version, the Endless Mini costs just $79 (around Rs 5,000).CES watchers seemed to agree that the  coolest wearable preview this year  was the first ever gaming platform  for kids and families, that you could wear: the Supersuit created by Bangalore- based MadRat Games, the brainchild of Rajat Dhariwal and Madhumita Halder. It consists of a vest which records hits and displays scores in the form of lights and audio, and a glove which enables interaction between players.Omron, well known for health monitoring equipment, will launch at the end of 2016 two wearable blood pressure monitors — one for the wrist, the other for the upper arm which go beyond the conventional.

Free of cuffs or wires, the Project Zero wrist BP monitor tracks blood pressure, reminds users to take medication, tracks compliance and syncs  with  your  mobile phone through Bluetooth to log the data and connect to family or a doctor. The Zero Upper Arm monitor  also tracks hypertension and detects irregular heart beats.

I Myself Is A ‘Settler’ In Hyd: KTR

IT minister K T Rama Rao, who is spearheading TRS campaign for GHMC elections, is doing everything to attract ‘settlers’ in Hyderabad towards TRS. TRS leaders and KTR who abused Seemandhra people residing in Hyderabad as ‘settlers’ during Telangana statehood agitation days, though it’s unconstitutional to term any Indian living anywhere in the country as ‘settler’, now themselves started claming as ‘settlers’ in Hyderabad.

The idea is to strike a chord with Seemandhra settlers in Hyderabad, who constitute a significant chunk of voters in GHMC limits, who have the capacity to make or mar the prospects of any party in elections. During a meet-the-press organised by Telangana journalists union on Tuesday, when a reporter asked KTR why he and TRS leaders were showing so much affection towards settlers these days, KTR replied. “Who else in not a settler in Hyderabad. Even myself is also a settler. I was born in Medak. My parents reside there. My father later shifted to Hyderabad due to which I also moved to Hyderabad and studied here.”

KTR further added, “If we take nearly one crore population residing in GHMC limits, hardly 10 per cent people would be there who were born and brought up in Hyderabad. The rest all migrated here from other districts and states. Not only Seemandhra people, there are lakhs of people in Hyderabad who migrated from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala and all other states. Hyderabad is a mini-India.” If TRS leaders really considered Hyderabad as a mini-India, why did they abuse Seemandhra people during Telangana agitation?

A reporter posed the same question to KTR to which he replied, “During those days we were forced to behave like that as some people had provoked us to obstruct Telangana State. That was done out of political compulsions and there is nothing personal against Seemandhra people.”

Puri Jagannath was once considered dashing director with his success streak and daring attempts. But he lost his midas touch from few years and has been churning out underrated movies. But Puri showed some promise with NTR’s Temper.

Temper gained confidence in buyers such that they invested huge in Loafer which has young mega hero Varun Tej in lead. The movie has covered business of over 19 covers including publicity and prints. Movie promoted as an emotional output from Puri Jagannath.

Puri even stated that Loafer is “Amma Nanna O Tamil Ammayi” kind of film in years. But the film failed miserably at box office and collected a share of just 11.65 crores and gross of about 20 crores. With this it can be easily understood that distributors recovered upto just 60 % which major areas like Nizam left distributor in huge losses.

Pawan Kalyan lodging complaint against BVSN Prasad just a day before the release of Nannaku Prematho came as a shocker to everyone. Even Pawan fans are shocked over the news as Powerstar is not known for taking extreme measures for the sake of pending money. Tarak fans are devastated to know Pawan Kalyan is causing problems to Nannaku Prematho at the last minute. NTR fans are crying foul and alleging that this is a ploy against Tarak by Balakrishna and his supporters.

Pawan Kalyan’s closeness to Chandrababu Naidu and NTR’s recent differences with CBN and Balakrishna triggered these opinions. But the thing is Pawan Kalyan is not causing any problems to the release of the movie. He didn’t ask the chamber to stall the release until his dues are paid. So Pawan is not creating any problems to the movie but only dealing with the producer who didn’t keep his word. BVSN Prasad promised to clear Pawan Kalyan’s dues before Nannaku Prematho is released. But he failed to keep his word and stopped attending to the calls of Pawan’s managers. So Pawan had no option but approach MAA regarding the pending payment.

Pawan made sure that Attarintiki Daredi had a smooth release by clearing few financial hurdles. BVSN Prasad didn’t bother to clear Pawan’s dues even after the movie went on to become an industry hit. Pawan waited for more than two years before lodging a complaint.

Has Eros Bought Nannaku Prematho Or Not?

Eros International which is co-producing Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Dictator today sprang a surprise with the posters of NTR’s Nannaku Prematho. The Nannaku Prematho posters carried the logo of Eros prominently prompting rumors that the Eros completely bought the rights.

Still the distributors of Nannaku Prematho say otherwise, they still are dealing with BVSN Prasad, the producer, not with Eros. Even sources at Eros deny that they bought Nannaku Prematho. Then why did the logo suddenly appear on the posters.

Was it mistake done by designer? Or has the deal dropped off suddenly? Seems there is confusion around it.  Meanwhile, Nannaku Prematho is releasing in nearly 60 screens in Chennai, and in highest number of screens in Mumbai and Bangalore as Reliance Entertainments planned it meticulously. Reliance Entertainments is partner in the film.
