Watching Action Films Makes You More Likely To Cheat!
New York: If you are a movie buff, better cut down on action films! Researcers have found that watching violent movies or reading books with violent content can make you more likely to lie or cheat, suggests new research. Exposure to human violence is strongly linked to an increase in cheating for monetary gain, the study said. “Research shows that violent media increases aggressive behaviour towards others, but what we are showing here is that it goes beyond that,” said study coauthor Josh Gubler, professor of political science at Brigham Young University in Utah, US. The researchers carried out several experiments with roughly 1,000 participants for the study. In one experiment, participants were paid to review sentences and edit those with mistakes.
Half of the participants were given sentences with violent language. Subjects were told they would be paid whether or not they were correct, providing an incentive to mark all sentences “correct” to earn money quicker. Those who reviewed violent sentences were 24 percent more likely to cheat. In another experiment, participants were hired to watch and evaluate movie clips. They were told they needed to watch the entirety of all the clips to be paid. The researchers found those who viewed violent movie clips were more likely to lie about watching all the videos. “We hope this information informs parents and communities as they make decisions about what types of media they consume,” Gubler said. The study was published in the Journal of Business Ethics.
Bengal Tiger Kicks Off With A Good Omen
Bengal tiger is soon to roar at the theatres. It’s going to be a deciding movie for Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja. The movie’s pre release business was good,TFI says. Ravi Teja has always been a minimum guarantee hero but with the continuous flops that are coming his way, the pre release business is standing a good omen for the release. Kick 2 also had a good pre release business but the credit for it goes to its prequel and its director Surender Reddy, who just then had delivered a block buster “Race Gurram”. With kick 2 bombing at the box office Ravi Teja as a hero did have a pit fall. But with the movie buyers still considering Ravi Teja dependable and its director being young and dashing Sampath Nandi, It’s said Ravi’s line of flops did not effect the business.
The pre release business is believed to have fetched about Rs 30 crores for Bengal Tiger. The businesses turned out good with buyers trusting the combination and ofcourse for the craze Ravi Teja still has among the audience. The real test lies ahead though! We await to see if the Ravi-Sampath combo can enthral the audience and give them both their much awaited hit. We wish the Bengal Tiger roars and pounces in all glory!
Why Did Sehwag Forget About Dhoni?
Test matches were boring until Virender Sehwag entered Indian Cricket Team. The star opener who served the country for years had announced retirement from all formats of cricket recently and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) felicitated him yesterday. Sehwag thanked all his colleagues and the captains he had played under, but decided to give India’s most successful skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s name a miss.
“I want to thank Ajay Sharma, my first captain Ajay Jadeja, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble. I want to thank Tendulkar. I would also like to thank the players who played with me and against me. I would like to thank all the physios and trainers.
And not to forget the grounds men and umpires around the world,” said Sehwag after receiving a memento from BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur.
During his speech, there was no single word on Dhoni, under whose leadership he played for almost six years before being dropped from both the ODI and Test teams in 2013. This is not the first time that Sehwag has taken a dig at Dhoni publicly. He had recently stated that India lifted the 2011 World Cup due to the combined efforts of the team, and not just because of Dhoni’s captaincy.
These Waivers Kill The Nation
Prior to the assembly elections, it was loan waiver to the farmers which catapulted KCR and Naidu to power. Of course, they cleverly reneged on their promise after the polls and the result is that farmers continue to commit suicides. But the mantra of waiver goes on as it is a proven recipe for electoral success. KCR is believed to have taken the decision to waive of ‘electricity’ and ‘water dues’ in Hyderabad amounting to nearly Rs 423 crore. The government will reimburse the respective agencies. A couple of months ago, the TRS government took a decision to collect only Rs 101 as property tax from house owners instead of the usual Rs 1200.
These decisions are taken only with the GHMC elections in mind. The point is: what message do such waivers send to the public? What would honest and hard- working people feel when defaulters are rewarded in such a fashion? “I work from morning to evening and pay my taxes on time whereas my neighbor hardly bothers to do so. Come election time, his dues are waived off which means that I am also paying for his taxes.” Any government should encourage and reinforce positive behavior from its citizens, but then this is India!

The occupation of seven acres of land by the Annapurna Studios owned by Akkineni Nagarjuna has always been controversial. Now, it is back in the news again. According to sources, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited authorities are eyeing a part of this piece of land belonging to Annapurna Studios for the metro rail purposes, as there is no other land available for the same. The authorities have reportedly approached a people’s representative to negotiate with Nagarjuna to part with the land, which falls in the Metro Rail alignment.
Sources said several individuals would be losing their properties because of the metro rail which is passing along the route. The piece of land belonging to Annapurna Studios could be used by the HMRL authorities either for the railway line purposes or providing alternative sites for those who would be losing their properties.
