తెలుగు సినిమా విషయానికి వస్తే పరిస్థితి సన్నగా ఉంది. పాన్ ఇండియా రేంజ్లో పెద్ద హిట్ అందిస్తామని భావించిన సినిమాలు అంచనాలను తీరలేకపోయాయి. టాప్ 10లో ఒక్క పవన్ కళ్యాణ్ నటించిన ఓజీ మాత్రమే చోటు దక్కించుకుంది. ఈ సినిమా 298 కోట్ల వసూళ్లతో హిట్గా నిలిచింది. కానీ ఎక్కువ భాగం వసూళ్లు తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల నుండే వచ్చాయి, ఇతర భాషల్లో ఆశించిన ప్రభావం చూపలేకపోయింది. ప్రభాస్, అల్లు అర్జున్, రామ్ చరణ్, మహేష్ బాబు లాంటి స్టార్ హీరోలు బాక్సాఫీస్ రేసులో లేకపోవడం టాలీవుడ్కు పెద్ద లోటు. ఎన్టీఆర్ కీలక పాత్రలో నటించిన వార్ 2 360 కోట్లు మాత్రమే రాబట్టి ఫ్లాప్గా నిలిచింది. రజినీకాంత్ కూలీ సినిమా 516 కోట్లతో యావరేజ్గా అనిపించింది. అక్షయ్ కుమార్ హౌస్ ఫుల్ 5 292 కోట్లతో సరిగా నిలిచింది.
పెద్ద సినిమాలు నిరాశ పరిచినా, చిన్న కాన్టెంట్ రిచ్ సినిమాలు ఈ ఏడాది అద్భుత విజయాలు సాధించాయి. అంచనాలు లేకుండా వచ్చిన సయారా 575 కోట్ల వసూళ్లతో అందరినీ ఆశ్చర్యపరిచింది. మలయాళం లోక సినిమా 302 కోట్లతో ఆల్ టైమ్ బ్లాక్బస్టర్గా నిలిచింది. యానిమేషన్ ఫిల్మ్ మహా అవతార్ నరసింహ 326 కోట్లతో లాభాలను సాధించింది. ప్రస్తుతం థియేటర్లలో ఉన్న ధురంధర్ 374 కోట్లు వసూలు చేసింది, ఇంకా ఆడుతూనే ఉండటం వల్ల కలెక్షన్స్ పెరగడం కూడా సాధ్యమే.

Raja Saab Theatrical Rights Expected Near ₹200 Crore
Raja Saab, produced by People Media Factory in the Prabhas–Maruthi combination, is gearing up for a Sankranti release. As the film enters its marketing phase, trade discussions around its theatrical rights have picked up pace.
Unlike most of its recent films, which were sold on advance-based deals, People Media Factory has reportedly decided to opt for the non-refundable advance (NRA) model for Raja Saab. Talks with buyers have already begun. According to trade sources, the Andhra area (excluding Rayalaseema) is being quoted at around ₹85 crore, while the Uttarandhra region alone is valued at approximately ₹21 crore.
For comparison, Pushpa 2 was marketed in the Andhra region at close to ₹100 crore, making Raja Saab’s price slightly lower. If Andhra is pegged at ₹85 crore, Rayalaseema could fetch around ₹40 crore, and the Nizam territory is expected to go for close to ₹70 crore. Reports indicate that People Media Factory is keen to sell the Nizam rights under the NRA model as well.
Based on these estimates, the theatrical rights for Raja Saab across the two Telugu states are expected to be valued at close to ₹200 crore, highlighting the massive expectations surrounding the film.
Akhanda 2 Box Office Faces Steep Decline
Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 arrived with massive anticipation, but the fantasy action thriller has struggled to maintain momentum at the box office. The film reportedly lost a significant portion of its audience due to underwhelming pre-release promotions and received largely negative reviews following its theatrical release on December 12, 2025.
According to Sacnilk, Akhanda 2 collected around ₹5.35 crore net in India on its fourth day across all languages. The film recorded an overall 23.47% Telugu occupancy on Monday, December 15, highlighting a sharp drop in footfalls. With this, its total India net collection has reached approximately ₹60.90 crore.
The day-wise trend shows a steep decline after the opening weekend. Thursday premieres earned around ₹8 crore, followed by ₹22.50 crore on Day 1. Collections dropped to ₹15.50 crore on Day 2, a decline of over 31%, and Day 3 saw a marginal dip with earnings of ₹14.90 crore. The biggest fall came on Day 4, with collections crashing to around ₹5.4 crore, a drop of over 64%.
Directed by Boyapati Srinu and produced by 14 Reels Plus and IVY Entertainment, Akhanda 2 now faces a challenging run, with weekday performance expected to play a crucial role in determining its overall box office outcome.
Tollywood 2025: Year of Star Absence and Sparse Releases
The year 2025 is drawing to a close, beginning with a major hit like Game Changer and ending with another blockbuster, Akhanda 2. Yet, the question remains: how many big star films actually released in between? The answer—very few, so few that they can be counted on one hand.
Many top actors missed the year entirely, some due to previous flops, others because of strategic breaks to plan bigger projects. The result? Months slipped by with minimal star-driven releases.
Take Allu Arjun, for instance. After delivering the blockbuster Pushpa 2, he carefully planned his next move. Even discussions with director Atlee took considerable time, and by the time the project went on floors, much of the year had already passed.
Mahesh Babu faced a different scenario. Following Guntur Kaaram, a break became inevitable. His next film, directed by SS Rajamouli, extended the hiatus further, leaving Mahesh with no releases in 2025. His highly anticipated Varanasi project is now slated for a 2027 release.
Prabhas, despite having multiple commitments, could not release a film this year. Production delays, massive budgets, and intensive visual effects slowed his progress, especially as he worked on two films simultaneously. Fans had to settle for his guest appearance in Kannappa and the Baahubali re-release.
Chiranjeevi also had a blank year, with the failure of Bhola Shankar forcing him to drop certain projects and rearrange plans, effectively costing him the entire year.
Other stars faced personal or professional interruptions: Naveen Polishetty and Sai Durgha Tej due to accidents, Akhil, Vaishnav Tej, and Varun Tej following box-office failures.
All in all, numerous leading actors stayed away from theatres in 2025, leaving a noticeable void at the box office and making the year unusually quiet for star-driven Tollywood releases.
Ram Pothineni at a Career Crossroads: Box Office Struggles and Future Prospects
Ram Pothineni’s recent film choices have left audiences and the industry pondering the next move in his career. When he attempted a mass entertainer like Skanda, theatre turnout was underwhelming. The bigger challenge lies in determining what type of film could draw audiences back to theatres and who among producers will be willing to invest with confidence given the present uncertainties surrounding his market viability.
Dhurandhar Telugu Version Expected on December 19
Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar continues to create a strong buzz following its worldwide release on December 5. While the film has been performing well with its core audience, a significant section of viewers from the South has been requesting dubbed versions.
In recent days, social media has seen a surge in demands for Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam releases. The demand has grown substantial enough to attract attention from trade circles. According to industry sources, a Telugu dubbed version of Dhurandhar is reportedly in the works and is expected to hit theatres on December 19.
Although the makers have not made an official announcement yet, discussions are said to be progressing quickly, with an update likely soon. Adding to the excitement, there is stiff competition for the Telugu distribution rights, with multiple parties reportedly vying for the opportunity. Rumours suggest that Allu Aravind may acquire the rights and release the Telugu version under the Geetha Arts banner, potentially ensuring a strong release strategy across Telugu states.
Fans are eagerly awaiting official confirmation from the makers as anticipation for the South release continues to grow.
