Young Bangladeshi paceman Mustafizur Rahman, who tormented the Indian players in the ODI series, is shown endorsing a cutter – symbolising his ‘off-cutters’ – and the Indian players are holding a banner which reads, ‘We have used it. You can use it too’.
Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Shikhar Dhawan and R Ashwin are shown standing with the banner with their heads half-shaven.
India had lost the three-match series 1-2 to give the hosts a historic bilateral series victory.
Are these star players all saints?
Gone are the days when Cricket used to be gentleman’s game. Players used to sledge breaking all norms and even throw matches putting personal gains before nation.
When match fixing scandals hit cricket for the first time many sports lovers wept inconsolably and people of India where cricket is religion and players are gods, many refused to believe.
But former South African captain Hansie Cronje’s confession and banning of former Indian captain Md.Azharuddin despite successful record, changed their mind-set. Now sports lovers look every match and action of every player with suspicion.
Advent of IPL made even young and budding cricketers richer within seconds and many players from across the world preferred to play IPL rather than represent their countries. But match fixing and spot fixing allegations hit the tournament hard and even though former chief of IPL Lalit Modi was thrown out, things did not change.
Lalit Modi threw a twitter bomb that he wrote a letter to ICC naming three players involved in match fixing. He named all Chennai Super Kings players Ravindra Jadeja, Suresh Raina and Dwayne Bravo and added real estate tycoon Baba Diwan of HDIL gave laish gifts promising cash and flats of worth Rs 60crs.
However BCCI denied all the allegations saying the players are not involved in match fixing scandal. BCCI is vertically divided with some giving clean chit to the players while some refusing to comment. People and sports lovers are questioning “Are these star players all saints?”
