‘It’s Slow, But I Am Steady’
Remember the story of rabbit and tortoise? Well, Regina says her career could be going slow for now, but she says she has no qualms about it.
She says she is confident of getting the right kind of films and expresses confidence that the pace of her career does not scare her one bit.
Though a Tamil girl, Regina debuted in Telugu with Routine Love Story. But her first big success came in the form of Kotha Janta where her performance was much appreciated and later she was part of the Sai Dharam Teja’s hit film Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitam.
Right now she is doing Subramanyam For Sale, once again with Sai Dharam Teja. Though she was also part of Ravi Teja’s Power, Regina career hasn’t taken off big time both in Telugu and Tamil.
But Regina says she will wait for the right films instead of calling up big heroes for offers.
Saying she is not worried about losing out in the race, Regina says if films don’t happen then she will take up some other career option.
However, for now, she says all her focus in on Telugu. Let’s hope she does the tortoise and wins her race.
Chaithu Confident On Dohchay
Naga Chaithanya’s attempts to establish himself as a mass hero with films like ‘Dhada’, ‘Bezawada’ and ‘Autonagar Surya’ yielded no fruit.
It was only romantic entertainers like ‘Ye Maaya Chesave’, 100% Love and Oka Laila Kosam, which gave him any recognition. But it is not enough to do run-of-the-mill romantic movies only.
The audiences are only patronizing movies that are differently presented. Also, competition among the younger heroes is now very intense.
Akhil Akkineni is also about to make his debut soon. Against this backdrop, Naga Chaithanya’s latest movie Dohchay is releasing this week.
While sticking to the commercial template, Naga Chaitanya has reportedly tried something different with Dohchay and he is also said to be pleased with the output.
Industry sources say that he is absolutely confident on the success of the film. Here’s wishing him all the very best.
Mani Ratnam’s ‘OK Bangaram’ mints over Rs.14 crore
Filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s latest Tamil outing “O Kadhal Kanmani”, which has been raved about by critics and audiences alike, has minted over Rs.14 crore at the box office worldwide in the first four days since its release.
“The film has approximately collected Rs.14.73 crore from both its Tamil as well as dubbed Telugu versions in four days worldwide. Despite the onslaught of “Kanchana 2″, which has already turned out to be a super hit, Mani’s film has impressed the multiplex audiences,” trade analyst Trinath told IANS.
Touted to be Ratnam’s comeback to the romance genre, the film is set in Mumbai and follows the story of a young couple Aadi and Tara who decide to live together even before marriage.
Starring Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen in the lead roles, “O Kadhal Kanmani” has given Ratnam a much needed hit after his last outing, “Kadal”, not only bombed, but also burnt the pockets of several distributors.
The film has done exceptional business overseas as well.
‘Visiting Sivaji Ganesan’ House Is Nothing Short Of Pilgrimage
Kalyan jewelers ad clearly shows the love and respect Amitabh Bachchan has for legendary south Indian actors and he even goes to the extent of saying that it is good news that the store is bang next to Sivaji sir’s house in T Nagar.
Well, recently he was in Chennai for the inauguration of the store and goes without saying he was invited to Sivaji Ganesan’s residence by his son Prabhu who is also part of the ad incidentally.
Bachchan Sr could not help remembering fond memories of his past visits to Chennai and also the time he met up with Sivaji Ganesan himself. He also recollected a time when he was in Chennai to shoot for the remake of a Sivaji Ganesan film.
Amitabh Bachchan also had lunch with Prabhu and said that though he had driven past the house many times earlier, he finally had the privilege to visit and have lunch there. A very humble Amitabh says the visit was nothing short of a pilgrimage.
No Roles For Elderly Women, Says Revathi
Mumbai: Actress-director Revathi has never shied away from playing characters of her age, but she feels there is a dearth of roles revolving around life of an elderly woman and emphasised on a need to break out from the mold of stereotypical presentation.
“The kind of films I get is a little boring because I feel it’s okay to play my age and that’s not an issue. But it’s just that playing my age doesn’t mean just being a mother, lawyer or a doctor. There is no characterisation. A very few writers write characters that suits a 35 or 45 plus woman,” Revathi, 48, told media.
The “Love” actress has carved a niche for herself in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam industries by performing varied roles. She also shared that she is looking for a challenging role.
“As an actor, I’m a little bored with the roles I’m getting. It doesn’t challenge me. I’m not interested in numbers. I want to do quality work and feel happy about it. For my age, none of the language writers have much to offer. That’s why I’m being very slow and doing just one film in two years,” said Revathi, who has directed films like “Phir Milenge” and “Mumbai Cutting”.
What about penning a role to justify the mentioned age bracket?
“As a filmmaker, I don’t decide on things like this. For me, it’s an incident or story that touches my heart. I decide to make a movie on it. But, having said that I have two scripts with me and one script is about a 45 plus woman,” she said.
Revathi, who played a mother in the 2014 Bollywood film “2 States”, has maintained a balance between commercial and parallel cinema. She terms “cinema as a medium of entertainment”.
“I have been a fan of good entertainment. Cinema is a medium of entertainment. Art is like all over the world and cinema for me, is an art. Art has variety and that’s the best part of it and that is why I have been able to balance,” she said.
Known for films like “Raat” and “Ab Tak Chhappan”, Revathi has directed films from a women’s point of view. She says the reason behind it is that it’s difficult to step into a man’s shoes.
“I don’t decide that my film has to be from a woman’s point of view…it’s just that my last two films happened to be so. Getting into a man’s shoes and think like them is not very easy. I need to train myself for that,” she said.
Meanwhile, Revathi, currently enjoying the success of “Margarita with a Straw”, says she had a great time sharing screen space with Kalki Koechlin in the film.
“There was no difficulty because Kalki is a simple hearted girl and very committed and that’s all you need. When people are committed, you connect to your role immediately. I had a great time with her,” she said.

Both of them had temporarily retired and returned to play roles that suit their age.
Though its years since they last met, we are told that they happened to be at an awards nite recently. Well, their rivalry from the ’80s is well-known but it is said that neither of them tried to break the ice nor did they bother to share the same space.
In fact, we are told that Madhuri entered the venue at 10.30 pm along with her husband Shriram Nene walking the red carpet and posing for the cameras.
And Sridevi left the party with Boney Kapoor minutes after Madhuri made her entry.
Though the actresses walked past each other, they simply looked away and those present say that the cold vibes were hard to ignore.
