Tourist falls 20000 ft as parachute fails to open

A 51-year-old Canadian man, identified as, Justin Kyllo, died in a tragic paragliding accident in Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Being a popular tourist hotspot in East Africa, a Tanzania National Park is always busy with aerial and aqua recreational sports.

Justin fell to his death after his parachute failed to fully open and he crashed onto land. Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, is nearly 6,000 meters (20,000 ft) above sea level. The senior assistant commissioner, Paschal Shelutete said that Justin Kyllo’s family had been informed of the death.

He added, “The accident took place on Saturday at around 9 am when the tourist’s parachute failed to open. He climbed the mountain on September 20 and tried to descend it by paragliding,” he said. With nearly 50,000 tourists climbing Kilimanjaro annually, such unfortunate accidents are said to be a rare feat.
