Andhra Pradesh has emerged as a beacon of wellness and unity as Visakhapatnam proudly hosts the main event of the 11th International Day of Yoga. The port city is at the heart of a historic moment, as the global spotlight turns toward India’s yoga legacy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Visakhapatnam on Friday evening to lead the celebrations, commended the leadership of Andhra Pradesh for positioning India at the forefront of global wellness initiatives. He was received at Visakhapatnam Airport by Governor S. Abdul Nazar, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, State Minister Nara Lokesh, and other dignitaries.
Taking to social media platform X, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated:
“Honoured to receive Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji at Visakhapatnam today, alongside Shri @ncbn Garu. His visit marks a proud moment for Andhra Pradesh, as we host Yogandhra 2025 — a national celebration of International Yoga Day right here in Vizag. As the world turns its attention to the transformative power of yoga, it is inspiring to see our state take centre stage in this global movement for wellness and unity.”
During an interaction with the Chief Minister, Deputy CM, and Union Minister, the Prime Minister appreciated the state government’s efforts in planning the mega event at an unprecedented scale.
Chief Minister Naidu informed the Prime Minister that Yogandhra 2025 would set new world records in yoga participation. After his arrival, the Prime Minister proceeded to INS Dega Naval Air Station, before retiring for the night at the Navy guesthouse.
On Saturday morning, PM Modi will join over 3.19 lakh participants at RK Beach, performing the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) in a massive demonstration of India’s global wellness vision. He will be accompanied by Union Minister of State for AYUSH and Health, Prataprao Jadhav, and CM Chandrababu Naidu.
The main event, scheduled from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., spans a 26-kilometer stretch from RK Beach to Bhogapuram, forming the heart of the ‘Yoga Sangam’ initiative — synchronised with over 10 lakh locations across India.
Chief Minister Naidu posted on X:
“All districts of Andhra Pradesh are geared up to participate in the grand culmination of Yogandhra. Over 2 crore people will join this movement across 1 lakh+ locations in our state. To join this historic celebration, find your nearest venue and participate. Together, let’s make YogaAndhra2025 a proud moment for our state!”
The state aims to break two Guinness World Records and achieve a total of 22 world records through this initiative. Elaborate arrangements have been made to facilitate the participation of lakhs of citizens both on-site and remotely.
The month-long Yogandhra initiative (May 21 – June 21) featured over 15,000 yoga competitions held from village to state levels at iconic and tourist locations. A total of 5,451 master trainers facilitated these events, with certificates issued to 1.05 crore+ participants, each linked with Aadhaar and provided a unique QR code for authentication.
This year’s Yoga Day is themed “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” Looking ahead, Andhra Pradesh is working towards incorporating yoga into school curricula from Class 9 onward, with plans to introduce yoga sessions once or twice a week. There are also proposals to establish a dedicated deemed university for yoga education and research.
As the world embraces the unifying and transformative power of yoga, Andhra Pradesh has firmly placed itself at the helm of a global wellness renaissance.
