Peddi Release Delay Impacts Small Films & May Releases

May 2, 2026

The release of a big-budget film often puts smaller films in a difficult position, as theatre availability, screen allocation, and audience attention become major concerns. Even if a small film is good, it can easily get overshadowed in the wave of a big release. For the past few months, many small filmmakers have been carefully adjusting their release plans around one major film.

That film is the pan-Indian project Peddi, starring Ram Charan and directed by Buchi Babu Sana. Its release has been repeatedly postponed, starting from an earlier planned date of March 27, which was later shifted. It was then expected to arrive on April 30, but that too changed. Later, reports suggested a possible June 25 release, creating continuous uncertainty in the industry.

This shifting of dates created a ripple effect in the small film market. Many producers either postponed their releases or waited for clarity, hoping to avoid direct competition. Some even planned their releases immediately after the big film, while others proceeded based on unofficial updates.

Finally, the makers of Peddi officially announced June 4 as the release date, bringing some clarity to the industry. With this confirmation, several small films have now locked May for their theatrical releases, aiming to make the most of the available window before the big film arrives.

Films like Jetlee and Gayapadda Simham have already hit theatres, and more small projects are gearing up for release before June 4. One such film is Ravi Babu’s Razer, scheduled for release on May 8.

Interestingly, Ravi Babu revealed in a podcast that even his film faced delays due to the uncertainty around Peddi. He mentioned that they initially planned a May 1 release but had to reconsider due to market confusion and shifting release dates of the big film. After several discussions, they finally settled on May 8, which also coincides with his father Chalapathi Rao’s birth anniversary, making the date even more special for him.

Overall, the situation highlights how the release strategy of big films significantly impacts the planning and survival of smaller films in the industry.
