‘PK’ Unconventionally Outstanding

Share
Aamir Khan’s films always have an element of intrigue and with a team comprising ace director Rajkumar Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the expectations were high. And unquestionably, “PK” scores high on content as well as entertainment. Packed with lessons galore to debunk the myths of mystical India, “PK” is a satirical-comic drama. With a narrative pivoted on a fantasy premise, the film intrinsically and cleverly weaves fiction and reality.
Enveloped in a romance fraught with misunderstandings between Jaggu (Anushka Sharma) aka Jagat Sahani, an Indian student, and Sarfaraaz Yusuf (Sushant Singh Rajput), a Pakistani living in Belgium, “PK” is the tale of a guy who gets the pseudonym “Peekay” (Aamir), owing to his constant irrelevant questioning and weird dress sense. “Haame ghar jana hai…” forms the crux of PK’s journey. This plea is metaphorically and figuratively layered with actuality. What keeps you intently glued are the messages in the right dosages and format in the narrative.
They are neither preachy nor overbearing. Though the film talks about god yet the film is not about religion. It is about humanity and how one perceives god. An unarguably powerful and versatile actor, Aamir adroitly carries the film on his able shoulders. His quirky persona with bulging toad eyes, prosthetic ears and colourful ensemble, add to his controlled and consistent performance.
As PK, he indulgently and innocently succeeds in making you think. Anushka as Jaggu is refreshingly endearing, as well as engaging. She is spirited as a television journalist working for India Now Channel. Boman Irani as her boss delivers a lacklustre performance that is restricted by his on-screen time and role.
He offers nothing that is unusual or electrifying. Sushant has a small, but significant role as Anushka’s love interest, which he portrays convincingly. Sanjay Dutt as Bhairon Singh, who rescues PK in Mandwa, Rajasthan, adds star value to the character.
Saurabh Shukla brings a new and interesting dimension to his Godman Tapasvi Maharaj. Contrary to the clichéd godmen we are used to seeing, Shukla’s flashy flamboyance gives a unique interpretation to his character. The songs and background score by Ajay Atul, Shantanu Moitra and Ankit Tiwari are artistically amalgamated into the film. The music – soft and mellifluous – is typical, often heard in most of Chopra’s films.
The songs blend seamlessly with the mood and spirit of the narration. The outstanding numbers are “Love is a waste of time” and “Bhagwan hai kahan re tu.” These fit in well as they are situational in nature and hummable too. Shot in Rajasthan, Delhi and Belgium, the film has cinematographer C.K. Muraleedharan doing full justice to the beautiful natural locales and he has captured them brilliantly.
He is equally skilled at projecting the opulent sets and colourful costumes to perfection. The screenplay by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi is taut and layered. Humour comes astutely in the form of dialogues and situational comedy. What makes it stand apart is that it is neither too dramatic nor over the top. “PK” is strongly reminiscent of films made in the bygone era and yet has a contemporary relevance to it. This one is a sure shot winner. (IANS)

Tummala still loyal to Naidu?

Share
Sometimes although people change their political colors due to opportunistic politics, nevertheless the bond always remains close. The same can be now said of Khammam strongman and TRS Minister for roads& Buildings, Tummala Nageshwar Rao.
He had a rapturous welcome accorded to him at Bhadrachalam yesterday after the swearing in ceremony. However, when compared to Talasani who also jumped into TRS at the same time and has been breathing fire at Naidu, Tummala has been maintaining a studied silence.
Sources say that he has confided to his close followers and some of the media friends that Naidu has done a lot to him and although he has left his three decades old bond with TDP, he left the party with tears in his eyes and he respects Chandrababu come what may! What remains to be seen is whether Tummala would stick to TRS during the 2019 elections and whether KCR would be comfortable having him after discovering Tummala’s internal thoughts.
The coming days will answer this question.

Rajkumar Hirani, the man behind critically acclaimed and commercially successful films like Munnabhai franchise & 3 Idiots, tests his luck this time with an out of the box film ‘PK’. The fact that it took him 5 years to deliver his next product after a hugely successful film (‘3 Idiots’) shows how much he is conscious about the fact that he can’t afford to make mistakes. His ability to deal with a serious issue and present it in a humorous manner need to be commended.
Soothing songs and Soulful background score create the mood required. Camera Work is remarkable. Dialogues by Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi are hilarious and meaningful as well. KTR wins Andhra admiration!

Share
Inspite of the different sentiments among the people of AP and Telangana, there has always been a hope from the educated class that there shouldn’t be any permanent damage for the bond shared between people.
Unfortunately, on either sides of the divide there have been extreme positions and accusation that hasn’t augured well but again the never say die spirit of the society at large has today made possible that there have been no physical attacks. But even after bifurcation the statement of few leaders and ministers in TS has hurt those who have become reconciled to the reality of TS.
However, among them if there is one minister from Telangana who has won the admiration of media, the common man and even Andhra ministers is KT Rama Rao, son of KCR. Barring one or few minor instances, KTR is being hailed for his hard work and efforts as a minister than compared to the time some others dedicate for Chandrababu bashing. KTR during T-movement and KTR as a minister in TS government, they say is something that is largely welcomed by the people of Andhra.

From Chennai to Mumbai – Boney Kapoor on the go

Mumbai: It’s a super-hectic time for Boney Kapoor. While his son Arjun Kapoor’s next release “Tevar” is around the corner, Boney’s wife Sridevi has begun the shooting in Chennai for her lavish costume drama directed by Chimbu Devan. Shuttling between two metropolises, the filmmaker is virtually living his life out of a suitcase.
The caring husband that he is, Boney wants to spend as much time as possible with his wife. However, Boney’s home-production “Tevar”, with his son Arjun in the lead, is releasing in January 2015. And Boney is going ballistic trying to balance the two commitments. An exhausted Boney said: “I don’t know if I am coming or going. I’ve never travelled so much.
Sri is shooting her Tamil film in Chennai. And Arjun’s film is on release. So I’m required to be in Mumbai.” When Sridevi started shooting in Chennai last week, she was accompanied from Mumbai to Chennai by her dear friend Manish Malhotra. “Manish is doing her costumes in the Tamil film. Manish was there with her. But I still wanted to be there on her first day of shooting,” he said.
Boney flew out to Chennai to ensure his wife was comfortable on the first day of her shooting in Chennai, although it meant a lot of inconvenience for the “Tevar” team in Mumbai. “I will have to divide my time between the two commitments. Luckily, ‘Tevar’ is attracting the right amount of attention.”

Shankar’s I Theatrical Trailer is Enticing

Share
The theatrical trailer of Shankar’s ‘I’ is finally out. Makers are planning to release the Telugu version audio on December 30, 2014 and the film will be out in Tamil and Telugu for Pongal 2015. This 2-minute trailer has many getups of Vikram and a part of the story can be guessed after watching it. As per sources Vikram is a Chennai-based body builder preparing to win the Mr Tamil Nadu title.
But looks like a nefarious game is being played out as Vikram gets into one fight after the other, getting into fist fights in gyms, on roof tops, on moving trains, chasing across shallow lagoons and what have you. High on drama, histrionics with lovingly shot exotic locales (China, we are told), great make-up, good acting and lots of song-and-dance and action – that’s Shankar’s new film. It has the makings of a complete entertainer.
Vikram has already started shooting for his next film and he is likely to take leave from that schedule to promote ‘I’ in Tamil Nadu, Telangana & Andhra Pradesh. Amy Jackson is the leading lady and AR Rahman has composed the music. As we have already reported, Rahman took special care for the background score of ‘I’ and it is going to remain as one of his best works. Aascar Ravichandran is producing ‘I’ under Aascar Film Pvt Ltd banner.
