Viewers want – Content or Collections?

Share

fans

Fans of superstars like to boost about box office collections for the films of respective stars and even few journalists follow it, but do really movie lovers care for collections figures or do they watch a film on the basis of content? If viewers don’t follow collections, why do producers and stars reel out figures in the first week of release as highest fist day opening collections or topper in weekend collections and finally announce industry record. (probably they don’t the exact meaning of industry hit).

“Heavy crowds on the first few days mostly comprises of fans and masses but regular audience and family audience step out only, if they are sure of content and confident that it would be paisaa vasool. As they have to spend Rs. 1000 for a outing and they rely on mouth-publicity from a friend or colleague and don’t go by tom toming of record breaking collections advertised by producers. Without family audience a film can’t be be a blockbuster, so it better to churn good content than fooling a viewer with fudged up figures. Some small films, even without over the top publicity are drawing viewers with their entertaining content” says a distributor. It seems that, he has a point?

Hero Donates 25 Lakhs For Directors

The film industry is considered to be quite materialistic and once work is done, everyone goes their separate ways. But it is the presence of those few good men which gives a meaning and value to the circuit. Here is one such example of how a big star showed his gratitude towards the directors.

He is the Kollywood star Vijay and news from Chennai is that he has gone ahead and donated a whopping Rs 25 lakhs to the Directors’ welfare fund. The idea is to use this money to support directors who are struggling. Vijay reportedly stated he owes a large part of his success to many directors.

So, this is his way of thanking them. The other interesting part is that Vijay had reportedly laid down a condition that at any cost this topic must not be leaked. However, someone got a whiff and the news came out. This gesture is being hailed by everyone in Kollywood and they say that this is the first time in the Tamil cinema history that such a thing happened.

Chiranjeevi’s 150th Film In ‘Manam’ Mode

Share

mega

It sounded like music to the ears of many mega fans when megastar Chiranjeevi announced he is making a comeback. But it has also come with a good share of suspense and mystery. As of now, nobody knows who is going to direct the prestigious 150th film of Chiru and many names have been making rounds.

The list comprises of V V Vinayak, Sreenu Vaitla, Boyapati Srinu and even Krishna Vamsi. While that is one side, here is another interesting update. It is heard that the mega camp is searching for scripts that is somewhat similar to the concept of ‘Manam’ as in family. Today, the mega family is huge with loads of actors.

While ‘Manam’ had the legendary ANR as the driving force, buzz is that Chiru’s 150th film will also focus on the megastar being the central nucleus and advocating strong values of bonding and relations. What remains to be seen is who can come up with the right kind of script that can match the hype.

Jr NTR and Jagan Resolved Differences

Share

puri

Finally there is some ‘real’ news coming from the horse mouth itself as producer Bandla Ganesh confirms that all the ‘differences’ are resolved. Probably we have to admire his tactical issue solving skills and abilities as a producer to get back everything on track as things just went haywire.

Known as ‘blockbuster’ Ganesh, this producer might have got shock of his life after he returned from London wrapping the shoot of a song related to ‘Govindudu Andarivadele’. Supposedly the latest schedule of NTR and Puri Jagan’s ‘Neno Rakam’ should kick-start by September 12, but our hero applied pressure on brake pedal. As shooting got halted, there were various rumors coming out including permanently shelving this project and rolling out Sukumar’s movie.

However Ganesh is quick enough to dive into action and swing an ‘olive branch’ between the hero and director to restore peace back in its place. Coming to terms on their ‘creative’ differences and other major decisions, both NTR and Jagan are now heading to start the shoot probably from September 22. Time for Ganesh to release an official press note about the restart anyway!

Secret Of Brahmi’s Dance in Aagadu

Of course, Brahmanandam dancing to the tunes of star heroes’ songs on silver screen is not a new thing. Many a times he picks up some hit numbers and shakes his legs. But fact is that he can’t dance like a Ram Charan in ‘Dillaku Dillaku’ song from ‘Racha’ movie. Then how did he manage to do that in ‘Aagadu’?

In ‘Aagadu’, Brahmanandam dances to a medley of hit songs including Dillaku Dillaku from Racha, Nachore Nachore from Yamadonga and Cinema choopista maava from Racegurram. Not just dancing, he actual mimics those trademark steps with ease. And it is the turn of audiences to go jaw dropping. Especially the first ‘Racha’ step of Ram Charan is awesome.

Don’t get shocked, as this happens to be an excellent work of visual effects teams who carefully managed to attach Brahmi’s head to the real dancer. There is neither any jerky head movement nor any mismatch of movement such that you’ll not identify the actual. That’s the secret folks!

Golden Chance for Gopichand!

If things go in favour of hero Gopichand, he may strike the right chord of the audiences. His new movie ‘Loukyam’ is slated for release on September 26. There is no big opposition for this movie on that day. Obviously, the movie may enjoy the dream run at the box office until ‘Govindhudu Andarivadele’ gets released on October 1. The censor formalities of ‘Loukyam’ have been completed recently and the movie received U/A certificate from the members of the board.

Rakul Preeth Singh has romanced with Gopichand in this romantic and action entertainer. Anup Rubens has composed the music of the movie. Srivaas directed the movie on Bhavya Creations.

Telugu Lecturer Behind ‘Aagadu’ Dialogues

Share

mahi

Right from the beginning, Aagadu dialogues are packing a punch. Though they are good in rhyme, meaning and relevance, somehow certain dialogues looked over the board but still Mahesh’s terrific uttering, timing and modulation-style clicked them big time. Writers Upendra Madhav and Anil Ravipudi are the two able creators who penned such ‘grandhikam’ laced Rayalaseema style dialogues for Mahesh Babu in Aaagadu.

Also Sreenu Vytla too penned many dialogues, as he is an expert at punch-dialogues. However, all these dialogues couldn’t be understood if one doesn’t hail from pure Telugu background, as some words dug deep into some formal language written in classic literature.

To avoid cutting-out or leaving-in any dialogue from the movie without having proper understanding of it, it is heard that Censor officials took help of a Telugu lecturer. Because some dialogues sounded like ‘boothu’ for Censor board but producers defended them as good words spoken in Rayalaseema area. To clarify the issue, a Telugu lecture has helped, and finally passed all dialogues with just fewer cuts.

As speculated widely, the Hyderabad Metro project is all set to hang in balance with reports that the state government of Telangana is not pleased with many of the political remarks which were made against Telangana state in the letter wriiten by L&T Metro Rail managing director V.B. Gadgil. It is a known fact that this letter has been leaked to media on Wednesday.

Sources say that Chief Minister KCR has reportedly directed the officials to make a strong protest against Gadgil’s remarks against Telangana state formation. KCR is also very much upset how the letter mentioned Hyderabad losing its significance without AP and also reportedly asked them to pursue this issue with the top management of L&T, seeking strict action against Gadgil for his unwanted political overtones.

KCR feels that Mr Gadgil’s remarks against Telangana state and Hyderabad city were totally uncalled for which had nothing related to the Metro project. There are even rumours that KCR himself countered Gadgil on Wednesday when they had a meeting!

Where Is Heroine Tamanna Bhatia?

Share

tam

For any movie, star heroine Tamanna is one actress who never misses the chance to attend pre-release promotions and release day interviews is not seen anywhere when it comes to ‘Aagadu’. After looking at the movie today, many will feel that all those rumors in existence hold true about her absence.

Gossip mills have always maintained that milky beauty is unhappy with the way her character ‘Sweet Shop Saroja’ was shaped in ‘Aagadu’. Initially Sreenu Vytla was heard promising a role like Shruti Haasan’s Bhagyalakshmi in Gabbar Singh. But it turned up like a damp squib as her character is no where part of story, but just inserted for ‘glamour’ sake.

Though time and again, Sreenu Vaitla quashed these rumors as baseless, Aagadu proved that Tamanna’s worry is true as her character got no big attention. We have to see if she attends any post-release promotions at least, explaining her absence.

Deepika Padukone’s Stunning Post on CLEAVAGE Row

News that was reported on leading daily about star heroine Deepika Padukone and her cleavage show created sensation.Deepika found fault with her picture taken from an awkward angle which appeared in a leading news daily.

She posted the screenshot of the photo which was captioned with OMG : Deepika Padukone’s cleavage show. The actress retaliated furiously on social media tweeting, “YES!I am a Woman.I have breasts AND a cleavage! You got a problem!!??’ Deepika Padukone found immediate support from different persons in Twitter.

Today Deepika posted a long clarification regarding the issue and she took dig at media for being irresponsible Deepika’s Statement:

My Point of View…

There is only ONE sign that a woman wants to have sex and that is that she says “YES”. The reason I write the above line is because we all know that in India we are so desperately trying to make a change in the way sections of our society think in order to move towards a happier world devoid of inequality, rape, fear and pain. I am not naive about my own profession; it is one that requires lots of demanding things of me.

A character may demand that I be clothed from head to toe or be completely naked, and it will be my choice as an actor whether or not I take either. Understand that this is a ROLE and not REAL, and it is my job to portray whatever character I choose to play convincingly. What my concern is and I am stating it clearly so it is not misconstrued or confused with Shahrukh’s 8-pack or any other woman’s or man’s anatomy. I have spoken out against an ideology that such regressive tactics are still being employed to draw a reader’s attention at a time when we are striving for women’s equality and empowerment.

In a time where women should be applauded for making headway in a male-dominated society,we blur the lines between REEL and REAL life and dilute all our efforts by making a one-year old back sliding piece of news a headline. Digging out an old article and headlining it “OMG: Deepika’s Cleavage Show!” to attract readers is using the power of influence to proliferate recessive thought.
When an actresses inner wear decides to do a “peek-a-boo”,she most definitely did not step out with the intention to do so.So instead of zooming in,circling it and pointing arrows at it,why don’t we give her some ‘respect’ and let it go instead of making it ‘headlines’!?

Are we not human?Yes we marvel, envy and drool over a male actors 8pack abs in a film, but do we zoom in on the mans ‘crotch’ when he makes a public appearance and make that ‘cheap headlines’??!! I have no issue celebrating my body and I have never shied away from anything on-screen to portray a character. In fact my next character portrayed is a bar dancer (sorry Farah for the spoiler!) who titillates men as a means to support her livelihood. My issue is you propagating the objectification of a REAL person, and not a character being played. Sure, dissect my characters if you wish-if it is of so much interest then discuss the character’s cup size and leg length if it is relevant to making the role convincing.

All I am asking for is respect as a woman off-screen. It is not about breasts, penises,or any other body part being reported. It is a matter of context and how out-of-context the reportage is just to sell a headline. And more so during a time in dire need of an attitude shift towards women. For me this topic ends here.Everyone is entitled to an opinion.I have little interest to take this further as it might get more attention than it deserves and might be further misconstrued and twisted to sell more undeserved headlines.

Having said that, please may we show love, dignity and respect to each other. Live well, laugh often and love much.

Aagadu Movie Review

The Most Awaited Telugu Movie of The Year, Aagadu is out in theaters now. Superstar Mahesh Babu and Sensational Director Srinu Vaitla have delivered blockbuster Dookudu in their first attempt. So the expectations on this Duo’s second film were at peaks. Did Srinu Vaitla pull off another magical entertainer with Mahesh? Did Aagadu live up to the hype?

Story :
Encounter Shankar (Mahesh) takes charge as Circle Inspector in Bukkapatnam. He starts teaching a lesson or two to everybody that is doing illegal activities in that village. Shankar comes to know that he lost his brother because of the local rowdy (Sonu Sood). Now Shankar plays mind games with him and uses Dilli Babu (Brahmanandam) for that purpose.

Performances:
Mahesh Babu:
Mahesh Babu is a sheer delight to watch. He just rocked the screen with his superb screen presence and handsome looks. His attitude and dialogue delivery as arrogant cop is outstanding. He stole the show in each and every frame that he is present. His impeccable comic timing and body language will keep you entertained throughout the film. He has carried off the film on his shoulders in spite of average script. His dances come in as a surprise.

Tamanna:
Tamanna has a very limited role and has nothing to do except for dancing in the songs. She did well within her limitations.

Others:
Sonu Sood as the main villain is just okay. Brahmanandam makes an entry in the second half and his comedy works in parts. His dance sequence where he imitates NTR, Charan, Mahesh and Allu Arjun is funny. Rajendra Prasad has a dignified role and Nasser did an unusual character. Vennela Kishore, Raghu Babu, Posani Krishna Murali and others have done their bit. Shruti Haasan sizzled in the item song.

Technicalities:
Direction:
Srinu Vaitla tried to do something different from what he usually does. His efforts to move away from his regular template can be seen in the first half. However, he played it safe in the second half yet again by sticking to his formula. He is definitely not at his best in this film as a director and writer. There are glimpses of his brilliance seen here and there, but on a whole it is an under par performance from the star director.

Others:
Thaman’s music is average. A couple of songs are well shot. Background Score is fine. Dialogues written by Upendra, Anil are impressive. Cinematography is topnotch. Editing is alright. Production values are superb. 14 Reels Entertainment has once again made a very lavish film.

Thumbs Up:

  • Mahesh Babu’s performance
  • Cinematography
  • Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu Spoof

Thumbs Down:

  • Same old Formulaic Treatment of Srinu Vytla
  • Routine Comedy in Second Half

Analysis:
Aagadu takes off on a high note with a powerful introduction scene of the protagonist, followed by a fight and an introduction song. Starting scenes of Mahesh as cop are very good and gives the movie a promising start. However Srinu Vaitla failed to maintain the same tempo even for a span of fifteen minutes. The graph of the film goes up and down with a good scene followed by two bad scenes.

In spite of the fluctuations, first half of the film works because of Mahesh Babu’s introduction scenes, his love track with Tamanna and Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu spoof. Second half opens by revealing the actual plot of the movie. Later Srinu Vaitla shifts into his own zone of confusing comedy. Brahmanandam and Mahesh Babu tries to keep the audience interested in between all that routine fuss.

Mahesh and Brahmi do provide some moments of fun, but we are too bored of this ‘Dhee’ formula. Srinu Vaitla should have opted for doing something fresh from this. Instead he chose to play safe, but he couldn’t pull it off this time. He has completely relied upon Mahesh Babu and few comedy scenes to bail him out. You will come out disappointed if you are expecting something on the level of Dookudu. This film is very inferior to it and only works because of Mahesh. He should solely carry this film at the box office too.

Verdict: Mahesh’s show All the Way

The concept of online buying and e-commerce holds good for many articles and household items. But can you imagine a film ticket being sold online and that too at black price? Well, that has happened in our land and the reason for that is the much talked about movie ‘Aagadu’.

Reports reveal that some unidentified members have put up ‘Aagadu’ tickets for sale in the Quikr and OLX sites. However, they had great demands because one was asking Rs 1000 for three tickets while another was asking Rs 450 for a single ticket whose actual price is Rs 45. This came as a surprise to many.

While some of them didn’t venture to contact the sellers as they were not sure of its credibility, it is heard that few others have contacted them. While we don’t know if the sellers made money out of it but if the concept works then there is no doubt that we would start seeing other film tickets also like this. Black marketing going the online way folks!
