Siddhu Jonnalagadda on Second Half Syndrome in Indian Cinema

Share

Every year, hundreds of films hit the screens across Telugu cinema and other Indian film industries. Yet, many struggle to sustain audience interest throughout their runtime. A frequent reason for this shortfall is what film enthusiasts call the “second half syndrome” — when a film’s first half captivates viewers, but the post-interval portions lose steam, leading to a dip in engagement.

For the first time, a leading actor has spoken candidly about this recurring issue — Siddhu Jonnalagadda. His latest release, Telusu Kada, directed by Neeraja Kona, opened in theatres on Friday to decent word-of-mouth. Although Siddhu largely avoided pre-release interviews, he interacted with a group of journalists after the film’s release and addressed the mixed audience reactions.

When asked about some viewers preferring the first half while others favored the second, Siddhu remarked that it’s actually a positive sign — as it shows that both halves are connecting with different audience groups.

He then delved into the structural challenge most Indian films face due to the mandatory intermission format.

“In Indian cinema, we have an intermission that pushes filmmakers to create a strong high point before the break,” Siddhu explained. “After that, they need to restart from scratch to regain the same momentum, which often causes a dip.”

In his trademark wit, Siddhu even quipped that intervals might have been introduced mainly to boost popcorn sales.

Sharing insights from a senior writer, he added that almost every film experiences some level of drop in energy in the second half — what truly matters is identifying where and why it happens.

Many moviegoers resonated with Siddhu’s perspective online, acknowledging that the interval break can sometimes disrupt narrative flow. However, they also noted that certain well-crafted films successfully maintain balance and intensity throughout — proving that the so-called “second half syndrome” can indeed be overcome with tight writing, smart pacing, and effective direction.

Ravi Teja’s Children Enter Film Industry

Share

Ravi Teja, fondly known as the Mass Maharaja of Telugu cinema, is one of the few stars who built his career entirely on his own merit. Without any family background in films, he rose to stardom through sheer determination, charisma, and his signature high-energy performances. Now, the next generation of his family is quietly making its way into the world of cinema.

The actor is currently promoting his upcoming film Mass Jathara, directed by Bhanu Bhogavarapu and produced by Naga Vamsi under Sithara Entertainments. As part of the promotional campaign, Ravi Teja and Bhanu recently engaged in a candid conversation with director Venky Atluri, known for Tholi Prema, Sir, and Lucky Baskhar. During their chat, Venky revealed an interesting update about Ravi Teja’s son, Mahadhan.

Venky shared that Mahadhan, who made his on-screen debut as the younger version of Ravi Teja in Raja The Great, has now chosen to work behind the camera. He is currently assisting the team of Suriya’s upcoming film as an associate director, gaining valuable hands-on experience in filmmaking. When Venky mentioned this, Ravi Teja lightheartedly asked him about his experience working with his son, to which Venky replied that it felt completely natural — after all, Mahadhan had grown up on film sets.

When asked about his son’s acting debut, Ravi Teja said he isn’t planning anything at the moment and prefers to let things evolve organically. Interestingly, he added that his daughter Mokshadha has taken on the responsibility of overseeing her brother’s journey.

Mokshadha, meanwhile, seems more inclined toward the production side of the industry. She is currently working as an executive producer on Takshakudu, an upcoming Netflix original film starring Anand Deverakonda and directed by Vinod Anantoju, produced by Sithara Entertainments. Reports suggest that she may soon take charge of Ravi Teja’s own banner, RT Team Works.

On the professional front, Ravi Teja is simultaneously shooting for his next project, reportedly titled Bharat Mahaseyalaku Vignapthi, directed by Kishore Tirumala. He is also in advanced discussions for future collaborations with directors Shiva Nirvana and Kalyan Shankar.

With both of his children stepping into the film industry in their own unique ways, it seems the Mass Maharaja’s legacy is well on its way to continuing — both in front of and behind the camera.

Pooja Hegde in Talks for Nani–Sujeeth’s Dark Comedy

Share

Pooja Hegde, who once ruled Telugu cinema with consecutive hits, is steadily making her way back into the industry. After a three-year hiatus, the actress recently signed a romantic drama opposite Dulquer Salmaan, directed by debutant Ravi Nelakuditi. Now, reports suggest that she is in talks for another major Telugu project — this time alongside Nani.

Nani, who is currently busy shooting for The Paradise under Srikanth Odela’s direction, is gearing up for its release on March 26, 2026. The actor has also announced his next venture with director Sujeeth, best known for Run Raja Run, Saaho, and They Call Him OG. The film, tentatively titled #NaniXSujeeth, was recently launched in Hyderabad.

Originally announced in April 2024 as Bloody Romeo under DVV Entertainment, the project underwent a change in production after budgetary revisions. It is now being backed by Niharika Entertainment in association with Unanimous Productions. Notably, Niharika Entertainment, led by Venkat Boyanapalli, previously collaborated with Nani on the critically acclaimed Shyama Singha Roy.

Described as a dark comedy infused with Sujeeth’s trademark action flair, the film is expected to go on floors once Nani completes The Paradise. The makers are reportedly eyeing a late 2026 release.

If finalized, Pooja Hegde’s inclusion will mark her first on-screen collaboration with Nani, adding fresh excitement to the project. Following the success of They Call Him OG, Sujeeth has been hinting at building a larger cinematic universe, and industry buzz suggests that Nani’s film might tie into that vision — though official confirmation is awaited.

With strong talent on board and the promise of a unique narrative, #NaniXSujeeth is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Telugu films of 2026.

2025 Likely to Miss ₹1000 Crore Indian Film Blockbuster

Share

After years of consistent box office milestones, 2025 is shaping up to be a rare lull for Indian cinema in the ₹1000 crore category. While films like Baahubali 2, RRR, KGF 2, Jawan, and Animal set new benchmarks in previous years, the current year’s lineup lacks releases with comparable scale, star power, and pan-India appeal.

Major anticipated projects, including Prabhas’ Raja Saab, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, and Ram Charan’s Game Changer, face delays and shifting release schedules, potentially pushing their premieres into 2026. Analysts suggest that audiences are now more selective, favoring regional and mid-budget films with strong content. The rise of streaming platforms has also influenced viewing patterns, reducing dependence on theatrical spectacles.

Unless a surprise blockbuster emerges, 2025 could go down as a rare year without a ₹1000 crore grosser. However, the industry remains optimistic, with multiple large-scale projects slated for 2026 expected to reignite box office excitement.

Kiran Abbavaram’s K-Ramp Shines This Diwali

Share

Despite arriving last in this year’s Diwali lineup, Kiran Abbavaram’s K-Ramp is proving to be a major success at the box office. The film is not just resonating in urban centers; it is also performing exceptionally well in B and C centers. The mixed reviews for other releases during the festival turned out to be a boon for K-Ramp at the ticket windows.

While critics have offered a mixed response, the movie is clearly winning over the youth audience. With Monday being part of the festival, the film is expected to see even more traction. Sunday’s strong pull is likely to spill over into Monday, giving it a further boost. However, the real test for K-Ramp will begin once the festival celebrations are over.

Adding to its advantage, some corporate companies have declared holidays on Tuesday and Wednesday, which could help sustain momentum, although it’s too early to predict the impact. For the first time in a while, several single-screen theaters are displaying “House Full” boards—a promising sign for Kiran Abbavaram’s growth as a star.

Kiran had previously impressed audiences last Diwali with Ka, and he is repeating his magic this year with K-Ramp. Fans are hopeful that the film will mark another milestone in his career.
