This Dhanteras, Rashmika Mandanna once again proves why she is truly the Midas of Indian fashion, radiating elegance, charm, and her signature golden aura.

Afghanistan Pulls Out of T20 Series After Pakistani Airstrikes Kill Young Cricketers

Share

Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan escalated recently after reports emerged of Pakistani airstrikes killing multiple Afghan civilians, including three young domestic cricketers. The strikes, carried out in Paktika, also left four additional players injured, all of whom were participating at the club level.

In response to the tragic incident, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced the withdrawal of its team from the upcoming tri-nation T20 series with Pakistan and Sri Lanka, originally scheduled for November. The board expressed deep sorrow over the loss, calling it a major blow to the country’s sports sector, particularly cricket.

Several Afghanistan cricketers, including Rashid Khan, shared their condolences on social media, expressing grief over the deaths of their fellow players and highlighting the broader human cost of the military conflict.

The tragic events have cast serious doubts on the future of the tri-series, further straining already tense relations between the two neighboring countries. The situation underscores the impact of ongoing cross-border conflicts on sports and civilian life in the region.

Kavitha Prepares Son Aditya for Political Role Ahead of Party Launch

Share

In what is being viewed as a strategic political move, Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha appears to be preparing the ground for her son Aditya to enter public political life. Kavitha, who is set to launch her own political party soon and embark on a state-wide tour next week, showcased her son’s involvement during the recent Telangana Bandh advocating BC reservations.

Although Kavitha has not formally announced Aditya’s entry into politics, his active participation in the Khairatabad protest signaled that he may play a larger role in the future. Aditya joined Telangana Jagruthi members in holding placards, raising slogans, and interacting with activists, displaying confidence, ease, and approachability — qualities political observers say are indicative of deliberate grooming for public life.

Since distancing herself from her father K. Chandrashekar Rao’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Kavitha has been working independently through her cultural and social organization, Telangana Jagruthi. Analysts suggest that bringing Aditya into the limelight may be a calculated step to position the next generation of her family in Telangana politics, especially amid her strained relationship with KCR over leadership and the direction of BRS.

Current indicators suggest that when Kavitha announces her political party, Aditya is likely to play an active role in youth mobilization, helping build a base for her emerging political platform.

India Denies Trump’s Claim on Halting Russian Oil Purchases

Share

Former US President Donald Trump on Friday reiterated his claim that India has “de-escalated” its purchases of Russian oil during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.

“India is not going to be buying Russian oil anymore. They have already de-escalated and more or less stopped. They bought about 38 percent of the oil, and they won’t be doing it anymore,” Trump said, adding that the process of completely halting purchases would take some time.

Trump also claimed that during a telephonic conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi “assured” him that India would stop buying oil from Russia. “You can’t do it immediately. It’s a little bit of a process, but the process is going to be over with soon,” he noted, emphasizing that stopping oil purchases would make it “much easier” to end the conflict in Ukraine.

Trump also described PM Modi as a “great man” and India as an incredible country.

However, India has rejected Trump’s claims. On Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) clarified that there was no telephonic conversation between PM Modi and Trump regarding Russian oil. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “Regarding the comment from the US on the energy issue, we have already issued a statement. As for the telephonic conversation, I can say that there has been no discussion between the Prime Minister and President Trump.”

India has purchased Russian oil over the past few years, though China remains Moscow’s largest energy buyer. The Trump administration had imposed an additional 25% tariff on India in August for purchasing Russian oil, while taking no similar action against China.

Trump’s statements coincided with India’s trade negotiating team being in Washington for the next round of talks with US officials. The Commerce Ministry has stated that India can import more crude oil and natural gas worth $12–13 billion from the US without modifying refinery configurations. The government continues to explore ways to diversify its energy import portfolio, focusing on availability at the “right price.”

The trade discussions resume shortly after the new US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, visited New Delhi and met PM Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Jubilee Hills By-Election: BRS Faces Tough Test Against Congress and BJP

Share

The political battle for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency is heating up, with all three major parties — the Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) — actively campaigning after announcing their candidates.

BRS was the first to declare its nominee, Maganti Sunitha, wife of the late MLA Maganti Gopinath, whose untimely demise necessitated the by-election. Sunitha has already hit the campaign trail well before the election notification.

For BRS, retaining Jubilee Hills is crucial after its major setbacks in the 2023 Assembly elections and a poor performance in the Lok Sabha polls, followed by the Secunderabad Cantonment by-election loss to Congress. The party’s image has also been dented by controversies — including the Kaleshwaram project irregularities, telephone tapping scandal, and the Formula-E race case.

Adding to its woes, the suspension and expulsion of BRS MLC K. Kavitha, daughter of party chief K. Chandrashekar Rao, further tarnished the party’s reputation. Despite these challenges, an internal BRS survey indicates a narrow 2% lead for the party in Jubilee Hills.

Sources suggest BRS candidate Sunitha enjoys the backing of Andhra settlers and the Kamma community, while the Congress candidate Naveen Yadav faces limited resources. However, Congress remains confident, banking on welfare schemes and Muslim community support to tilt the balance.

The BJP, meanwhile, is positioning its Reddy candidate strategically, expecting to capitalize on caste equations and split the anti-BRS vote. State Congress chief Revanth Reddy is optimistic that Naveen Yadav, a BC leader, stands a strong chance.

For the Congress, winning Jubilee Hills would reinforce its governance credibility and consolidate its leadership in Telangana. The BRS, on the other hand, views the contest as vital to proving its relevance and political resilience after a string of defeats.

Japan Set to Raise Visa Fees for First Time in 50 Years

Share

Japan is set to raise its visa application fees for the first time in nearly five decades, bringing charges more in line with those of the U.S. and European nations. The move aims to offset rising administrative costs amid a surge in international visitors, according to Nikkei Asia.

The new fee structure will benchmark visa prices against those in G7 and OECD countries, although the exact scale of the increase has not been finalized. The changes could take effect as early as the next fiscal year, following a period of public consultation by the Foreign Ministry.

Currently, Japan charges around 3,000 yen ($20) for a single-entry visa and 6,000 yen for multiple entries, among the lowest globally. By comparison, the U.S. charges $185 for short-stay visas, the U.K. $177, and Schengen countries like France, Germany, and Italy charge €90 ($105). Japan last revised its visa fees in 1978.

Officials note that record tourist arrivals have significantly increased processing costs. Japan welcomed 21.5 million visitors in the first half of 2025, surpassing 20 million for the first time during that period, up from 17.8 million a year earlier. Authorities believe the higher visa fees will not deter tourists and may help ease overcrowding at popular destinations.

The government is also considering requiring visa fees to be paid upfront, similar to the U.S. and European systems. This measure is expected to reduce frivolous applications and administrative workload.

Currently, Japan requires visas for travellers from over 120 countries, including China, Vietnam, and the Philippines. In 2024, Chinese nationals accounted for 70% of all visas issued (5.24 million), followed by the Philippines (570,000) and Vietnam (320,000), together making up nearly 90% of total visa issuances. Meanwhile, travellers from 74 countries, including the U.S., South Korea, and Australia, remain eligible for short-term visa exemptions.

Some members of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) have proposed broader tourism-related fee hikes. A May policy recommendation suggested repealing the consumption tax exemption for foreign visitors and increasing the international departure tax, citing concerns over large-scale duty-free purchases of home appliances and cosmetics for resale.

Government data shows that revenue from Japan’s international tourist tax reached a record 48.1 billion yen between April 2024 and April 2025, up 33% year-on-year, highlighting the growing financial impact of inbound tourism.

Portugal’s Golden Visa Rebounds with Cultural Investments

Share

Portugal’s renowned golden visa program — once a major draw for foreign real estate buyers — is witnessing a resurgence, this time through cultural and fund-based investments. According to Bloomberg, government data shows that visa approvals soared 72% in 2024, reaching a record 4,990.

Originally launched in 2012, during Portugal’s financial crisis, the scheme offered residency to foreigners investing at least €500,000 in real estate. However, in 2023, the property option was scrapped following criticism that it worsened the housing crisis in Lisbon and other cities. The revised program now grants eligibility through either a €200,000 donation to a cultural non-profit or a €500,000 investment in an approved fund.

Institutions like the Museu do Caramulo, a private museum in central Portugal, have emerged as key beneficiaries. Over the past two years, the museum has raised more than €20 million via golden visa donations, funding renovations and expanding its exhibits.

While this shift has boosted the cultural sector, economists question whether the redirected funds are addressing more pressing national needs. João Duque, finance professor at the University of Lisbon, noted, “It would be interesting to see some of these funds being used to improve sectors of the economy that face serious difficulties. We need better hospitals, schools, and affordable homes to fix the housing crisis.”

Since its inception, Portugal’s golden visa program has drawn over €7 billion in investment, much of it previously tied to real estate. Former foreign minister Paulo Portas, who introduced the program, defended it as “a good tool to attract investment,” crediting it with helping Portugal recover from a tough economic phase.

Though the revamped model has diversified funding toward culture, agriculture, and renewable energy, critics argue that it still favors passive investment rather than active economic participation. The government has promised “economically and socially fair” reforms while maintaining its commitment to the program — even as European scrutiny over similar residency schemes continues to grow.

Anirudh Strikes Back with Vetri Maaran’s Arasan

Share

Celebrated music composer Anirudh Ravichander has faced some criticism in recent months for not living up to his usual standards. Following Devara, his subsequent works — including Vettaiyan, Vidaamuyarchi, Kingdom, Coolie, and Madharasi — failed to make a strong impact. Except for the “Monica” song and a few background score moments in Coolie, none of these projects truly reflected Anirudh’s immense potential.

However, after a brief lull, Anirudh seems to have regained his spark with his latest work for “Arasan.” The five-minute promo of this Silambarasan-starrer period action drama, released yesterday, opened to a highly positive response. The audience, in particular, showered praise on Anirudh for his powerful background score, which perfectly complemented the tone of the film.

Arasan marks the first collaboration between Anirudh and acclaimed filmmaker Vetri Maaran, known for his realistic storytelling and content-driven cinema. Vetri typically avoids the use of exaggerated slow-motion sequences or loud background scores to elevate his heroes — quite the opposite of Anirudh’s energetic and mass-appeal style. This makes Arasan an interesting creative challenge for Anirudh, who has so far managed to strike the right balance in the promo.

It will be fascinating to see how Anirudh’s music integrates into the full film, especially since Vetri Maaran usually prioritizes narrative depth over musical elevation. If Anirudh can carve out his own space within Vetri’s grounded cinematic world, Arasan might well mark his grand musical comeback.

Produced by V Creations, Arasan will also release simultaneously in Telugu as “Samrajyam,” a part of the Vada Chennai Universe. The film is slated for a worldwide release in 2026.

Ram Charan–Sukumar’s RC17 to Begin Shooting in April 2026

Share

It’s already known that the Rangasthalam blockbuster duo — Ram Charan and Sukumar — are set to reunite for their next big project, tentatively titled RC 17. However, recent rumours in the film circles suggested that the project might be delayed or even postponed. Putting an end to all speculation, the producers have now officially confirmed that the shoot for RC 17 will commence in April or May 2026.

Over the past few weeks, reports claimed that Ram Charan might collaborate with Trivikram for a new film after Peddi, skipping Sukumar’s project. Simultaneously, there were whispers that Sukumar could take up a film with Shah Rukh Khan before starting RC 17. These rumours left Mega fans confused and anxious about the fate of the much-anticipated film.

Finally, producer Naveen Yerneni from Mythri Movie Makers clarified the air during the Dude press meet. He confirmed that RC 17 is very much on track and will begin shooting once Ram Charan completes Peddi. With this, it’s clear that Sukumar and Charan’s reunion will be the star’s immediate project after Peddi hits theatres.

Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, is scheduled for a grand worldwide release on March 27, 2026. Ram Charan will kickstart shooting for RC 17 soon after, in April or May 2026, marking one of the most awaited collaborations in Telugu cinema.

Telangana ₹18,000 Crore Ghost Employee Scam Uncovered

Share

The Congress-led Telangana government, headed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has uncovered what it describes as one of the largest administrative scams in the state’s history — the alleged misuse of nearly ₹18,000 crore of public funds during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government under K. Chandrashekar Rao.

The irregularities came to light during the ongoing verification of government employees under the new Integrated Finance Management and Information System (IFMIS). The audit revealed a massive network of ghost employees, fake outsourcing contracts, and fictitious wage payments spanning government departments, corporations, universities, and local bodies.

The KCR government had earlier promised to eliminate all forms of contract and outsourcing employment, vowing transparency and regularization. However, the latest findings tell a different story. Official records show 4,93,820 employees listed as contract or outsourced staff, contradicting KCR’s earlier claims that such employment no longer existed.

Following Revanth Reddy’s department-wide data verification requiring Aadhaar, PF, and ESI details, only 2,74,844 employees were verified by the October 16 deadline. The remaining 2.18 lakh “employees” could not be traced, raising suspicions that a significant number were bogus beneficiaries who had drawn salaries for years without actually working.

Preliminary assessments indicate that at least one lakh ghost employees may have received illegal payments over the past decade, totaling around ₹18,000 crore. Senior officials revealed that even IAS and IPS officers, department heads, and politically connected individuals had included relatives and fictitious staff on payrolls.

The scale of the fraud is highlighted by cases like GHMC, which reported 21,000 outsourcing staff. After introducing a facial recognition attendance system, the number of actual staff dropped to around 15,000, exposing roughly 6,000 ghost employees. Similarly, in the General Administration Department (GAD), out of 1,600 temporary employees listed, only 764 were actually working.

With the data verification drive still underway, government sources suggest this may only be the tip of the iceberg. The Revanth Reddy administration is expected to initiate criminal investigations and financial recovery proceedings against those involved in what officials are calling a decade-long administrative fraud.

Tom Cruise & Ana De Armas Split After 9 Months

Share

Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and Ana De Armas have reportedly ended their relationship after being together for around nine months. According to The Sun, the 63-year-old Cruise and 37-year-old De Armas have decided to remain friends.

Sources suggest the couple realized they were not suited as long-term partners and mutually agreed to continue their bond platonically. The news of their breakup quickly went viral on social media.

The timing of the announcement is notable, coming amid rumors of their collaboration on a supernatural thriller titled Deeper and speculation about their so-called “Space Wedding.” Reports now indicate that the film may be on hold following their split.

Earlier this year, the pair was spotted holding hands at a Vermont getaway, sparking media speculation about their relationship. They later appeared together on romantic holidays and attended high-profile events, including David Beckham’s 50th birthday and an Oasis concert at Wembley Stadium.
