30 candidates in fray for elections to 2 MLC posts, polling to begin at 8 am
VIJAYAWADA: Stating that elaborate arrangements have been made for the MLC elections in East-West Godavari and Krishna-Guntur Teachers’ Constituencies on Sunday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K Vijayanand said the polling will be held from 8 am to 4 pm.
At Maoist-affected Rampachodavaram and Yatapaka divisions in East Godavari, and Kukunoor and Jangareddygudem in West Godavari district, people can exercise their franchise from 8 am to 2 pm.While 11 candidates are in the fray for the election in East-West Godavari Teachers’s Constituency with 17,467 voters, 19 have filed papers for the Krishna-Guntur Teacher’s Constituency MLC post. As many as 13,505 people are eligible to vote in the latter constituency.
The counting of votes will be held on March 17, the CEO said in a press release on Friday.Stating that live webcasting and videography of the entire poll process will be done at all the polling stations, the poll officer said all necessary Covid-19 containment measures will be ensured at the booths. Andhra Pradesh Health Systems Strengthening project director Vinod Kumar has been appointed the nodal officer to oversee the containment measures in both the constituencies, he added.
Last leg of preparations for polls
Krishna collector A Md Imtiaz has said polling for the upcoming MLC election will be held at 51 booths in 50 locations of the district on Sunday. While six of them are hypersensitive, 15 are identified as sensitive. The polling will be done through webcasting in 26 booths as per the directions given by the State Election Commission
New title for Sundeep Kishan’s next
A while back, Kona Film Corporation who are bankrolling Sundeep Kishan‘s upcoming project announced that the film is titled ‘Rowdy Baby’.
For some technical reason, the makers decided to change the title of the film.

The makers will soon be announcing ‘Galli Rowdy’ as the title of the film and we are reporting well in advance of an official statement from the movie unit.

‘Digambara Kavi’ Nikhileswar wins Sahitya Akademi Award
VIJAYAWADA: Renowned writer Nikhileswar, and one among the six ‘Digambara Kavulu’ has been chosen for the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award-2020 for his anthology of poems Agniswaasa penned in 2017. A poet with a focus on social issues for almost six decades now, Nikhileswar also contributed to English and Hindi languages.
Speaking to TNIE, Nikhileswar said, “Though, some Telangana poets are doing a good job even today, the latest trend is that a section of the poets have pledged fielty (udigam) to the rulers. This is a dangerous trend. All the democratic, human rights and Left forces should unite at this juncture.”
Nikhileswar was the founder-secretary of Viplava Rachayithala Sangham (VIRASAM) and was jailed under Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) in 1971 for his revolutionary writings and also participating in civil rights movement.
Born as Kumbham Yadav Reddy in Veeravalli village of the present Yadadri Bhongir district in Telangana, he was more popular with his pen name ‘Nikhileswar’.
A BA, BEd degree holder from Osmania University, he served as a civilian school teacher in the Army, as a clerk in the Indian Air Force and as a sub-editor in Golconda Patrika, a Telugu-language journal. He also worked as a teacher at Keshav Memorial School between 1966 and 1996. Nikhileswar was among the six young Telugu poets who came together and called themselves as Digambara Kavulu (naked poets), dropped their caste-based names and assumed new ones.
The first anthology of the Digambara Kavulu was released in May, 1965 by a rickshaw puller on the pavement of Hyderabad, second volume in December 1966 by a hotel cleaner in Vijayawada and third in 1968 by a destitute in Visakhapatnam which was dedicated to Kanchikacherla Koteshu, a Dalit boy who was set afire in those days.
While working as a guest editor for Poet, a monthly magazine published from Chennai during 1969, he got Digambara Kavitvam translated into English. Apart from Digambara Kavitvam, his works include ‘Mandutunna Taram’ (1972), Life: The edge of the knife (in English), ‘Itihas Ke Mod Par’ (in Hindi) and several others.
Nikhileswar later parted ways with Virasam and became the founder-member of Jana Sahithi Samskrutika Samakhya and was associated with various organisations like Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Federation and others.
Sharing his thoughts on the contemporary poetry, he said, “The young writers wanted to earn name and fame with one or two poems in a short span. The latest trend ‘Naaneelu’ is a typical non-serious poetry. After progressive poetry related to women, Dalit and Minorities, the Telugu literature is at crossroads now. The young poets base their works on their personal experiences. They lack social consciousness in their writings.”
He also found fault with the arrest of rights activist Varavara Rao. He recalled that when they wrote poetry against the violation of human rights, feudal system and corruption in government, they were branded as traitors and were jailed.
Meanwhile, Manasa Yenduluri also bagged Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar-2020 for Milinda (short stories) and Kanneganti Anasuya won Bala Sahitya Puraskar 2020 for Snehitulu (short stories).

Mahesh Babu joins hands with Sandeep Reddy Vanga
Soon after the release of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s debut directorial Arjun Reddy, superstar Mahesh Babu showed great interest in working with him. Sandeep even narrated a couple of ideas to Mahesh but things did not materialize for undisclosed reasons.

Furniture Maker Is Making Huge Profits By Selling Trump Buddha Statues
Popular Chinese shopping portal Taobao is receiving massive traffic from the customers who are rushing to buy a ceramic statue of former United States President Donald Trump.
It’s the idea of a Chinese furniture maker to make ceramic Trump Buddha statues. The statues that are being sold like hot cakes are available in two sizes. One is a miniature version statue that is 5 feet in height and the other one is 14 feet statue. The statues are priced at $153 and $613 respectively.
The furniture maker even poked fun at the former President’s election slogan: Let us make the United States great again. On the lines of the slogan, the maker gave the tagline, “Make your company great again!”
What makes the statue special is, unlike Donald Trump’s real behavior, the statue presents Donald Trump as cool and with a peaceful expression. Donald Trump can be seen meditating with his hands placed on his lap.

FGG writes to Harish, wants Rs 10,000 crore allocated in Budget for better infrastructure
HYDERABAD: The Forum for Good Governance (FGG) has requested Finance Minister T Harish Rao to allocate Rs 10,000 crore in the 2021-22 Budget towards the improvement of infrastructure in Hyderabad.In a letter to the Minister on Friday, FGG secretary M Padmanabha Reddy said that the city had a population of more than a crore and accounted for 60 per cent of the wealth generated in the State.
“The floods in August and September had caused havoc in low-lying areas, affecting a large section of people. As many as 33 people died and property worth crores of rupees was damaged. For the improvement of basic infrastructure like drainage, roads, drinking water, etc, many committees were constituted in the last three decades and they submitted their reports too. However, due to a lack of funds, the reports remained only on paper,” the FGG pointed out.
The sudden influx of people to Hyderabad in search of employment had put tremendous pressure on the existing infrastructure, and the GHMC was unable to meet the additional burden, the FGG said, and requested the Minister to earmark Rs 10,000 crore for the development of infrastructure in the city.

MLC polls: Campaign ends, but parties continue war of words on social media
HYDERABAD: Even though the high-decibel poll campaign for two graduates’ seats of Legislative Council came to an end on Friday, the battle among the leaders of TRS, BJP and Congress is continuing on social media.Responding to the social media comments made by his opponents on Friday, accusing him of amassing Rs 600 crore and purchasing lands, BJP State president Bandi Sanjay said on Twitter: “If they (TRS) prove the allegations, I will donate Rs 600 crore to the government for payment as unemployment allowance to the youth and also for payment of salaries to teachers and lecturers of private educational institutions.”
He also said that he would purchase lands to bury the “corrupt TRS leaders.” At a meeting oganised by the Telangana Vikasa Samithi, TRS working president KT Rama Rao supported the agitation of Vizag Steel Plant workers and blamed the Central government for trying to sell the IDPL lands in Hyderabad, which actually belong to the State government. “The IDPL is closed. The Centre recently wrote a letter to the State proposing to sell the lands and requested the State government to purchase them. But, it is a State subject as it is the State government which allotted lands to the IDPL,” Rama Rao said.
KT Rama Rao suspected that the Centre may even sell away Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). Responding to this, the BJP State president dared the TRS leader to reopen Azam Jahi Mills and Nizam Sugar Factory. While the TRS leader recalled that Telangana was the only State in the country, where 43 per cent fitment was given to the State government employees, TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy termed the latest assurance of 29 per cent fitment to the State government employees as a mere hogwash.
“While the BJP was indulging in the communal politics to cover up its neglect towards Telangana, the KCR government has been hoodwinking the people on all issues since 2014,” the PCC chief said in a video address to the party workers. He demanded that the State government employees should get 43 per cent fitment and not 29 per cent.
