#JamiaProtest: Students On Fire, Modi calls for peace

Share

The violent protest that rocked Jamia Milia University in New Delhi last night got the attention of the whole nation. Students of the university have called for a sudden protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) or Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) which the Parliament recently approved it.

In their protest, students said that this CAA is against the basic rights which the constitution provides. They also appealed to the states not to implement this.

But the Delhi police stepped into action and along with central forces, they have thronged into the university and thrashed students mercilessly who were protesting. Many got injured and 50 students were detained by the cops. In this clash, couple of police men too got injured.

In her first reaction, Jamia Milia University VC Najma Akhtar called for a high level enquiry into the clash and also said that the university will file lodge a complaint against the Delhi police for beating the students pitilessly. The VC informed the media that a lot of property within the university got damaged and questioned who will compensate for the loss?

Pictures and videos of Delhi Police and central forces brutality is widely being social media. One such video popped up wherein police drag a man and beat him up. Couple of girl students enter the scene and try to protect him.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too responded on the issue but not before the media and like always using social media. “The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 was passed by both Houses of Parliament with overwhelming support. This is the time to maintain peace, unity and brotherhood. It is my appeal to everyone to stay away from any sort of rumour mongering and falsehoods,” wrote Modi.

Meanwhile the Congress has demanded for a thorough probe into this episode. Gulam Nabi Azad questioned who gave the police the authority to enter the campus. “The police should have the permission of VC to enter the campus. But nothing as such happened,” said Gulam Nabi.

On the other hand in solidarity of Jamia Milia, many universities across the country have staged a protest in their respective campuses and condemn the attack on students.

Vijay Sai Reddy is yet at the centre of another controversy. The fresh controversy took place at a community meeting in Visakhapatnam. The Kapu Sena has organized an Atmeeya Kalayika program with Kapu, Telaga, Balija, Turpu Kapu, Munnuru Kapu and other sub-caste communities at Kambalakonda.

For this meet, minister Avanti Srinivas along with YCP general secretary Vijay Sai Reddy have attended. Vijay Sai Reddy’s presence at the Kapu meet has kicked up the controversy. Vijay Sai Reddy was called on to the dais and even asked the light the lamp. This is enough to fuel to the debate.

Several Kapu leaders and Kapu yuvasena members have protested Vijay Sai Reddy’s presence on dais and lighting the lamp. They questioned that whether it was YCP meet or was it Kapu meet. While Avanti Srinivas had tried to pacify the Kapu Sena members, they have raised slogans of Kapu leaders. The names of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga and Gudivada Amarnatha Rao have been heard from crowd. The flexis of Vangaveeti and Gudivada have been displayed and worshiped by doing Abhishekam with milk. This has turned huge embarrassment to Vijay Sai Reddy. Vijay Sai Reddy had tried to clarify that he is also Kapu.

Vijay Sai Reddy claimed that he is a Reddy from Nellore district where Reddys of Nellore are also called as ‘Kapu’. Vijay Sai Reddy went onto defend his claim further. He claimed that his tenth class marks memo certificate mentioned his caste as ‘Kapu’. Even then, the protests of Kapu leaders didn’t stop. After staying for a while, Vijay Sai Reddy had left the spot. Later, the Kapu leaders have cornered minister Avanti Srinivas for bringing Vijay Sai Reddy to the event.

Meanwhile, the Kapu leaders who had attended the meet have spoken about the Kapu reservations at the event. This has further put Avanti Srinivas and Vijay Sai Reddy in a tight spot. Avanti Srinivas had also lost cool. He said he has background. He said out of the 11 elected YCP MLAs in the district, Avanti said he alone had got the ministry. Avanti asked the Kapu sena leaders to not test his patience. He said that’s not the right time to raise the issue of Kapu reservations.

It’s A Miracle If Balayya Scores A Hit!

Share

Hero Nandamuri Balakrishna is getting ready for a bigger test this Friday. Like never before a film of his is hitting the screens with so much of negativity and low buzz. We are talking about ‘Ruler’ here. This is the second combination of NBK with director KS Ravi Kumar after a successful film like ‘Jai Simha.’

Nevertheless we should not forget that ‘Jai Simha’ isn’t that great film. With ‘Agnyaathavaasi’ bombing at the box office, NBK’s film cashed the opportunity. With an outdated plot, the sentiment factor worked in favour of ‘Jai Simha.’

Earlier to ‘Ruler’ NBK had ‘NTR – Mahanayakudu’ release which too got similar negativity. But that can be attributed to the disappointment of ‘NTR – Kathanayakudu.’ But ‘Ruler’ circumstance is completely different. Despite being a successful combination, the buzz hasn’t developed that expectedly.

Yet the team of ‘Ruler’ is hopeful that the film will click at the box office. But there are many factors that are working against the film. Take the case of NBK’s look. Even though Balayya came up with a new hairdo, it invited trolls from the netizens in the social media. Followed by the teaser and trailer response, this doubled the negativity on the film. The distributors and exhibitors did not show any sort of interest in buying the film and summing up ‘Ruler’ is releasing with Rs 15 crore deficit. The makers expected that the scenario will change after the pre-release event but that did not happen.

If all these aspects are one thing, the other is the competition. Already released ‘Venky Mama’ made a terrific start at the box office and is likely to continue with the same flow. Then competition with the likes of ‘Prati Roju Pandaage’ which is coming up with a good buzz. Director Maruthi has targeted family audiences and even if it manages to above average talk, ‘Ruler’ will have tough time. There are also dubbing films like ‘Dabangg 3’ and Karthi’s ‘Donga’ and small budget films like ‘Mathu Vadalara’ and ‘Iddari Lokam Okate.’

All in all, in these harsh times, if Balayya scores a hit, it would be seriously a miracle. Let us wait till this Friday to see if the miracle happens or not.

Neekenduku Thalli Aa ‘Brand’la Vishayam…

Last week AP Assembly witnessed roars after roars between the opposition and ruling parties. This week the sessions started on a lighter note and brought some cheer in the house. All thanks to Rajamahendravaram city MLA Adireddy Bhavani.

This TDP MLA questioned the YSRCP government on its new liquor policy and criticized that though it appears that the government wants to ban alcohol, its action speaks different. “The government claims that they have reduced the shops all over the state but the revenue is reasonably good and there is no change in it. This is mainly due to high rates on the alcohol and rents for the stores. I got it to my notice that the government is paying huge rents to YSRCP activists for this liquor stores,” said Bhavani.

Then the following statements by Bhavani made the members erupt in laughter. “Earlier there were many brands but now they are very less. The government is also encouraging those brands which get them maximum commission,” added Bhavani. Speaker Tammineni intervened and said, “Neekenduku Thalli Aa Brandla Vishayam… Vallu Matladutharu Vadileyyu.” This is a funny moment and everyone in the assembly laughed at it.

Continuing further, the TDP MLA said that there is a shortage of excise officials and at many places, the scrutiny is not going on as per the standard. Bhavani also said that the government needs to trainer the people properly working in the liquor stores. There are complains that the people working in these liquor stores are using filthy language against costumers.

Overall, the TDP MLA tried its best to corner the YSRCP government on a serious issue but it ended up as a fun moment.
