Talk: Mahesh and Murugadoss Friendship

Share

Usually, Mahesh Babu won’t stay in touch with directors who deliver flops to him. This is not only common with Mahesh, but synonymous with any star hero in film industry. But Mahesh Babu seems to have broken this rule now.

Mahesh has unveiled the motion poster of AR Murugadoss and Rajinikanth’s Darbar the other day. Interestingly, Darbar is slated for Jan 15, 2020 release which is competition to Mahesh Babu’s Sarileru Neekevvaru in Telugu states. Yet, Mahesh has agreed to unveil the motion poster of Darbar is a good move.

It is learnt that Mahesh has agreed to do it for his ‘friend’ and acclaimed filmmaker Murugadoss. Although Spyder didn’t work commercially, Mahesh has high regards for ARM. This is why Mahesh couldn’t say ‘no’ for Darbar promotion and readily agreed to launch the poster of Darbar.
Mahesh has also expressed his interest to work with Murugadoss again even after Spyder didn’t work. This is a welcome change in Mahesh. Only a few directors got such special place in Mahesh’s heart and Murugadoss is one among them with whom he would work irrespective of the commercial success or failure of their previous films.

Buzz: #RRR Will Have All Types Of Songs

Share

Back then, there are widespread rumours that Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum opus #RRR, which features Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the leads, will be devoid of all kinds of commercial songs. But it looks like, Rajamouli is not leaving the commercial part of the movie by banking on patriotic elements.

According to reports, #RRR will have almost 7 songs, on which three are romantic numbers while the rest are situational songs that talk about revolution, need for freedom and inspirational content. Popular poet and writer Suddala Ashok Teja is said to be writing two songs for this magnum opus, of which one is a revolution-based thought-provoking song while the other one is a romantic number.

Going by this, one could expect that Rajamouli might have adhered to his commercial format of narrating stories like how he has an inspiration song, romantic melody, soothing number and even an item song in Baahubali franchise. Also, these songs will provide major entertainment factor for a film, and lack of such has affected #SyeRaa big time in recent times.

Directed by Rajamouli, #RRR has Alia Bhatt romancing Ram Charan, while an English girl for Jr NTR is yet to be confirmed. The film is set for July 30, 2020 release.

Verdict: Ram Temple will be constructed, says SC

Share

In a historic judgement, the Supreme Court on Saturday directed the Centre to form within three months a trust which will build a temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya.

In a unanimous judgement, a 5-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, said the Sunni Waqf Board, which was a party to the title suit, should be given an alternate land somewhere else to build a mosque.

The disputed land of 2.77 acre has been given to the Hindus.

The Centre will make suitable provisions by handing over the land to the trust, the top court said.

The SC upheld the ASI report, which concluded that a temple existed at the dispute site.

A Telugu Actress for This Married Director!

Share

Known as one of the topmost directors in Tollywood, the filmmaker often fills up space in gossip columns thanks to his close friendship with leading actresses. He has had many romantic relationships in his long career.

At one time, the director’s name was linked with the then top actress. They almost lived like a regular couple. But she moved on in her life, and he had mellowed down as problems started tiptoeing in at home.

In the last couple of years, the married director largely abstained from ‘pakka choopulu’. But a little birdie tells us that he has now fallen for a Telugu beauty.

The petite actress is now regularly spotted with him although she is not doing any film at this moment.

Their close friendship has become a talking point. People also are whispering about his proximity to his current heroine but the truth is that he is serious with this Telugu actress who featured in his previous movie as one of the female leads.

He sure does know how to charm his heroines.

Rajinikanth trolled for his remarks

Share

Chennai: In the world of virtual debates weighing the importance of an issue or individual in the news, Rajinikanth’s media interaction on Friday seems to have attracted equal traffic from his admirers and detractors.

While the former argued that their superstar was only reiterating his oft-stated position that he would indeed launch into politics but is yet to decide on allies, the critics insisted he has done a U-turn from being a saffron bhakt to now pose as a critic of the BJP on the attempts to saffronise Tiruvalluvar and the economic slowdown.

The critics recalled on social media that Rajini had, while announcing intent to launch into politics, made clear his would be ‘aanmeega arasiyal’ (spiritual politics) and that could only mean ‘saffron politics’. His attempts to distance himself from the BJP, thus, are only shallow whereas deep within him remains the desire to ultimately back Modi and his party.

Many a twitteratti reflected this in their post soon after the Poes Garden media meet.

“Rajnikanth himself jumped into the tub full of saffron colour and now blaming BJP”, was one such tweet from @TholaRam.

Ram was responding to the post from another twitteratti, who called himself @Pun_Starr and said: “Rajnikanth says, ‘BJP is trying to paint me saffron.’ Somewhere in heaven, Sardar Patel & Bhagat Singh laugh out loud”.

And some on social media have also sounded a word of caution that now that he distanced himself from ‘saffron’,Rajinikanth can expect “a raid or revival of the case against his wife”.

Hyderabad police seals Hussain Sagar to foil march

Share

Hyderabad: Tank Bund and other major roads surrounding Hussain Sagar lake in the heart of Hyderabad were out of bounds for people on Saturday as police sealed the area to foil the march planned by striking employees of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).

People going to offices and workplaces, students and other commuters faced hardships in reaching their destination as the major road linking twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and all connecting arteries were barricaded.

Tank Bund, Lower Tank Bund, Telugu Talli Flyover, Indira Park Road, Secretariat Road, Necklace Road, Khairatabad Flyover and all other roads leading to the lake were sealed by the police, which has denied permission for the protest. Hundreds of policemen were deployed around the lake to prevent protestors from reaching the area, a popular picnic spot.

NTR Park, Lumbini Park, Indira Park and Sanjivaiah Park around Hussain Sagar were closed for visitors as a precautionary measure.

Joint Action Committee (JAC) of TSRTC employees has called for ‘chalo Tank Bund’ as part of their ongoing strike to press for their demands. The police, however, refused to give permission for the march on the ground that this could disturb law and order in the city.

JAC leaders, however, vowed to go ahead with the protest planned on the lines of million march held in the same area during Telangana movement. All opposition parties and Osmania University students’ groups have declared support to the protest.

Police took several leaders of TSRTC employees and the opposition parties into preventive custody or placed them under house arrest across the state. The arrests were made since Friday evening.

Police also set up check posts at the entry points into Hyderabad to prevent TSRTC employees from entering the city.

The strike by over 48,000 TSRTC employees entered 36th day on Saturday. Their demands include merger of TSRTC with the government.

However, taking a tough stand the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government rejected the demand for merger and even announced privatisation of half of the TSRTC routes.

Though Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the state government to take initiative to resolve the employees’ demands, no end to the stalemate appears in sight as both the sides are sticking to their stand.

Jagan invites NRI donations for Nava Ratnalu!

Share

Faced with severe financial constraints to implement his pre-election promises, YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday launched “Connect-to-Andhra” web portal, inviting donations for his pet schemes.

The website gives details of the funds that would be collected from donors, societies, Non-Residents Indians (NRIs) and CSR (corporate social responsibility) funds.

The government intends to raise Rs 1,000 crore through this initiative this financial year.

Jagan said details of any person willing to donate to the welfare schemes being implemented in their villages like Navaratnalu, Nadu-Nedu and other Government schemes, will be portrayed on the website.

Navaratnalu comprises nine welfare schemes meant to benefit various sections of people including farmers, women, children, students, unemployed and other sections people.

Nadu – Nedu is a programme that intends to bring in sea change in the government institutions such as schools and hospitals in terms of facilities and service.

“It’s a great opportunity to show your love for the state. It does not matter how much you help you can take up any activity in your village or your constituency or in your district or can donate any amount of money for the development”, Jagan said calling upon the Telugu speaking NRIs to do something to make this state better.

Ruling YSR Congress Party legislator from Mangalagiri, Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, offered his remaining tenure’s (close to 55 months) salary and perks for the Connect-t-Andhra initiative.

He handed over a letter to the Assembly officials to transfer his salary, allowances and other benefits as MLA every month to the Connect-to-Andhra account.

BJP prefers fresh Maha polls, divorce with Sena imminent?

Share

New Delhi: By late Friday, one thing was almost certain – the BJP prefers to go for fresh elections in Maharashtra after 6 months, on its own, blaming the Shiv Sena.

Another thing that is being increasingly clear- the BJP and the Sena are likely to go for a split.

First it was Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who addressed the media and then Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray retorted.

In this press conference vs press conference, Thackeray’s use of language was unprecedented.

“If they call me a liar, in future also I will not keep any relationship with the BJP,” he said.

“(Jannayak Janata Party leader and now Haryana Deputy Chief Minister) Dushyant Chautala, during Haryana election campaign, had said ‘two Guajaratis will teach us nationalism’ and BJP has now embraced him,” Thackeray added.

Fadnavis, after tendering his resignation as Chief Minister to Governor B.S. Koshiyari, addressed a press conference where he put the blame for no government squarely on the Sena chief.

“We fought together as ‘Mahayuti’, but Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in his first press conference (after election results) said that all options to form the government are open… It was a shock for us,” said Fadnavis, who has so far been restrained in his comments. Even while coming out of BJP chief Amit Shah’s residence in New Delhi, he refused to be provoked.

A BJP leader based out of Mumbai told IANS requesting anonymity: “Look as of today, we don’t have numbers. But neither has Sena. After today’s press conference, the relationship with Sena has become almost impossible.”

On being asked whether the two will split, the BJP leader said: “At least it is heading that way.”

Another BJP leader in the national capital said that the party was never closed to talks with the NCP but over the last few days, Sharad Pawar’s party has hardened its stand. So what’s the next course of action? “Fresh Election,” answered the BJP leader.

BJP’s General Secretary, Organisation, B.L. Santhosh didn’t mince any words when he tweeted: “Maharashtra CM Fadnavis makes it clear that there was no discussion on 50:50 formula …All issues raised in last one week cleared by him in one press brief .. Calls the bluff of many a concocted stories.”

With both sides out to call out each other’s ‘bluff’, the tone and tenor has changed drastically. Is it time for a divorce?

Nobody takes serious speeches of movie stars seriously

Share

Kolkata: Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan on Friday said nobody takes serious speeches of movie stars seriously, and at the end of it all he was just considered a good-looking face.

Shah Rukh made the comment at the inauguration of the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) when the audience clamoured to hear some peppy dialogue from his movies after he finished his speech.

The actor in his address had spoken of the need to celebrate the country’s diversity, the great heritage of films in Bengal, his experiences of attending the festival’s inaugurations over the past ten years and the rapport he enjoys with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly.

“I know, I know, I know nobody takes serious speeches of movie stars seriously. At the end of all, i am just a good looking face. Ya, that’s it,” said a smiling SRK.

“My presence here becomes useless if I don’t say some dialogue,” he said, and proceeded to utter an improvised version of one of his popular dialogues in the film “Raees”.

“Ammijan kehti thi, ki koi film festival chota ya bada nehi hota. Lekin KIFF se sundar koi bhi dusra festival nahin hota (My mother used to say, no film festival is small or big. But no other festival can be more beautiful than KIFF),” he said, as the audience lapped up every word he spoke.

AP to attract Rs 2 lakh cr investment in petroleum sector

Share

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Petroleum, Natural Resources and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday said that Andhra Pradesh would get Rs 2 lakh crore investments in the next five years as world leaders in petroleum sector are willing to invest in the east coast.

The minister told Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at a meeting at the State Secretariat here that many big players in the petroleum sector are showing interest in investing in Andhra Pradesh. He said in the coming five years the state would get Rs 2 lakh crore investments in petrol, natural gas and steel sectors.

He responded positively to Reddy’s request for the supply of iron ore from National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) to the proposed steel plant in Kadapa district.

The state government and the NMDC would sign an agreement in this regard very soon.

The Chief Minister said the quantum of investments would increase with the setting up of Kadapa Steel Plant, expansion project in Visakhapatnam and establishment of petro complex at Kakinada. He said that Andhra Pradesh has an open mind on industrialisation.

In response to the state government’s request to expedite payment of Rs 81 crore to 16,554 fishermen of Bhairavapalem village in East Godavari district who were affected by the off-shore drilling by the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) Limited, the union minister directed the ONGC officials to clear the compensation immediately.

The Chief Minister also sought an equal share of the royalty collected by the union government from oil and gas companies as their units pose various environmental risks and also cause depletion of the fish population.

The Chief Minister requested the Union Minister to set up a greenfield crude oil refinery and petrochemical complex in Kakinada as mentioned in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014. He also sought setting up of a Petroleum University in Kakinada.

The meeting was attended by Union Secretary for Steels, Binoy Roy, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum, Amarnath, NMDC Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Sasi Shankar, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) CMD Mukesh Kumar Surana, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) CMD PK Rath and others.

Struggling Period For Top Directors!

Share

SS Rajamouli seems to be taking ‘revenge’ on his peers. Rajamouli seems to be making his peers ‘jobless’ by locking two big stars of Tollywood with him. By locking Jr NTR and Ram Charan, other star directors have to wait for them to get their dates.

For instance, NTR and Ram Charan would be doing 2 films each in a span of doing one film with Rajamouli which means, two stars could do two films each i.e four films and four directors would have got work. But by committed to do Rajamouli’s RRR, the star heroes couldn’t work with other directors, thus indirectly affecting the work of the directors.

After Ala Vaikunthapurrammuloo, director Trivikram Srinivas has to wait for a while to team up with a star hero. Though Sukumar would be directing Allu Arjun, it would only roll on after Allu Arjun wrapping up his ongoing film Ala Vaikunthapuramlo.

Koratala Siva, who had waited so so long for Chiranjeevi as the Mega Star got stuck with Sye Raa earlier, is finally going to direct Chiru in Chiru 152. A popular and successful director like Koratala Siva waiting so long means loss to film industry as he could have done a movie in between which would have created wealth in industry and work to industry people.

Boyapati Sreenu is waiting for his next with Balayya Babu. VV Vinayak has moved onto acting as he couldn’t get the dates of star heroes. Sreenu Vytla’s woes may not end anytime sooner given that he had delivered back-to-back duds. Gunasekhar is hoping on historical biographical films and is passing years on each film.

Puri Jagannadh, who is known for wrapping films at brisk pace, too suffered from the lack of star heroes’ dates. Finally, he had scored big hit with iSmart Shankar, ending his flop streak. And he managed to get the dates of young sensation Vijay Deverakonda. After this, Puri also wants to move to Bollywood knowing that it is not so easy to get dates of star heroes.

Even after Sye Raa, Surender Reddy is also yet to lock in a hero for his next. While the likes of Prabhas and Mahesh are keen to work with Surender Reddy, easily it is going to take time as Prabhas is also busy with director Radha Krishna and Mahesh has a line up of commitments before coming to Surender Reddy.

The ‘exit’ of Pawan Kalyan from films has incurred hefty loss to film industry, albeit indirectly as the star is unavailable to create wealth in industry. With stars are interested to work with younger and new-age directors, senior directors are clue less on their upcoming projects and waiting for heroes’ dates with bated breath.

Top directors don’t have dates of star heroes to work with, thus forcing them to sit idle and work on the scripts and even looking for opportunities like web-series. This is indeed a quite shocking and struggling period for top directors. This is Rajamouli-mark ‘revenge’ on his competitive directors.
