Telugu engineer in Green Card backlog dies

Share

Washington: A US-based software engineer, whose name was listed in the Green Card backlog, died suddenly and as a result, his pregnant wife has been rendered out of status resulting in her inevitable return to India, a media report said.

Shiva Chalapathi Raju, who was based in North Carolina, died suddenly on Tuesday, The American Bazaar reported on Thursday.

Because the family was in line for Green Card, Raju’s sudden death would mean that his pregnant wife, Bobby Sowjanya, was now rendered out of status and would have no choice but to travel back to India.

Raju had been working with Oracle as a developer client in High Point, North Carolina. In the past, he had also worked for Wipro and British Petroleum in Michigan and Illinois.

The Indian Green Card backlog community took to Twitter on Thursday and described the plight of another Green Card backlog family on the micro-blogging platform by using the hashtag #DurbinWidow and #DurbinOrphan.

Many Indians expressed their outrage at Illinois Senator Dick Durbin’s opposition to S.386. or Fairness for High Skilled Immigrants Act 2019.

Many held him directly responsible for the uncertain fate of a number of such families, who were having to reconsider their lives due to their long wait to obtain a Green Card in the US.

Meanwhile, the Piedmont Area Telugu Association (PATA) has started a GoFundMe page to help Raju’s family, The American Bazaar said in its report.

The GoFundMe page says: “We (PATA) have started a funeral fundraiser to help cover the cost of his funeral expenses to transport his body to India. His family was not prepared for the high cost of a funeral, and during this difficult time we are reaching out to the community for help.”

Vishal’s Action Trailer: High Octane Visuals

Share

Hero Vishal’s Tamil movie ‘Action’ is coming in Telugu with the same title and dashing director Puri Jagannadh has unveiled the Telugu trailer.

From the word go, the trailer is action packed set against the backdrop of an isolated terror victim nation.

Vishal steps in as a raw agent and is seen performing high octane stunts. Milky beauty Tamannaah joins the hero and she too does those daring feats.

Sundar C is directing the movie and the trailer offers whole meals for action and spy lovers.

Vishal gets into the skin of the raw agent character while Tamannaah is good and displays her glamour wherever is needed.

The background music by Hiphop Tamizha is good whereas the cinematography stands out.

Warangal Srinu has bagged the Telugu rights of ‘Action’ for the two states and is releasing this November.

For Naidu, with 90 cases Chintamaneni is mass leader

Share

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu was all praise for his former MLA Chinthamaneni Prabhakar from Denduluru in West Godavari district.

Chinthamaneni is in the jail as 90 cases, including SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 cases, were filed against him.

Chandrababu Naidu, who completed his three-day interaction with the party leaders in Krishna district, spoke to the media where he said leaders who are targeted by this government were becoming mass leaders now.

He said some leaders were surrendering to the government but those who are not surrendering were becoming the mass leaders.

“This government is targeting opposition party leaders and the media. We will face it. There is no going back,” Chandrababu Naidu said.

He expressed sorry for Gannavaram TDP MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan’s resignation to the party due to alleged harassment by the government.

At the same time, Naidu had praise for Chinthamaneni Prabhakar, who dared the government and facing the cases.

“What did Chinthamaneni do? Did he kill anyone? Did he raped anyone? Why so many cases were filed against him?” Naidu asked and asserted that Chinthamaneni had now become a mass leader.

“There would be more such mass leaders challenging this government” he further said.

Interestingly, an hour before Naidu made this statement, Lokesh had met Chinthamaneni in the jail and extended support to the former MLA.

Andhra scribes divided over gag order!

Share

The latest order issued by the Andhra Pradesh government delegating powers secretaries of various departments to file defamation cases against media houses which carry negative stories against the government without evidences has divided the journalistic community in the state.

Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) held state-wide protests on Friday on the occasion of Andhra Pradesh formation day in protest against what it called the “gag order” by the Jagan Mohan Reddy government to stifle the voice of the journalists.

Several journalists attended the duties by wearing black badges and met leaders of various parties seeking support in the fight against the draconian order.

Almost all opposition leaders, including TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, BJP state president Kanna Laxminarayana and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan extended their solidarity with the agitating journalists.

Of course, journalists from Jagan’s own media house Sakshi have stayed away from these protests. But a section of other journalists surprisingly came in support of the government order saying it was meant only to rein in “yellow media” which is carrying stories deliberately maligning the Jagan government.

These journalists under the banner of Unity Forum of Journalists welcomed the GO No. 2430 which they said was aimed at preventing fake news.

“Those who are working in yellow media and making money through blackmailing might be opposing the GO, but real journalists who are committed to writing impartial and fearless news have nothing to worry about it. In fact, such a GO is essential to sustain impartial journalism,” the forum said.

Interestingly, this forum came down heavily on CM’s national media advisor Devulapalli Amar for adopting dual standards and demanded that he should step down from his post immediately.

“Being an advisor to the government on media affairs, Amar supported the GO. But he is provoking APUWJ leaders to stage dharnas against the GO. If he really feels that the order is draconian, why didn’t he object to it in the government itself? Why is he still clinging to the post? He should have resigned from his post and then ask his followers to agitate against the GO,” the forum demanded.

Cognizant to fire 13k employees?

Share

The US-based IT firm Cognizant is likely to cut nearly 7,000 mid to senior-level jobs in the next few quarters, as part of a restructuring process. It is also planning to exit from its content operation business, impacting 6,000 employees. The company which used to moderate content from Facebook is now exiting the professional business entirely by downsizing after multiple investigations revealing poor working conditions and employees exposing to mental health issues due to prolonged graphic content.

The company’s CEO Brian Humphries told that the tough decision has been made as a part of organisational restructuring, and they are all set to let go of more than 10,000 to 12,000 mid-to-senior level employees from their current roles. He also confirmed that it is a part to optimise cost and also to invest in the reskilling and growth. “The gross net reduction of employees will be 5,000 to 7,000 roles,” Humphries said. Moreover, there has been a talk that the company is undergoing a reconstructing process under the new CEO Humphries.

Though the exit from content operation business will affect their financial performance, the move will result in the cost-saving of $500-$550 million, primarily arising from layoffs in the senior management level and change in sales personnel compensation model. The management said that the work in content moderation is majorly concentrated on determining whether certain content violates the client’s standards and can involve objectionable materials. “This is not in line with the strategic vision of the company.”

The company said it now expects full-year revenue growth of between 4.6% and 4.9%, compared with its earlier guidance of growth of between 3.9% and 4.9%. Excluding items, the company earned $1.08 per share, above estimates of $1.05 per share.

ISIS confirms Baghdadi’s death; comes up with a new leader

Share

Just a couple of days ago, the US army forces killed the Islamic State’s leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in northern Syria. Now, the ISIS group stepped forward and announced their new leader and warned America: “Do not be happy.” The group also confirmed their former leader Baghdadi’s death.

An audio recording by them suggested that the Islamic State mourned the loss of their leader Mr. al-Baghdadi, who led the organization for nearly a decade. Also, its spokesman, Abu Hassan al-Muhajir, was killed a day after Mr. al-Baghdadi. Muhajir was considered as a potential successor. President of the US Trump and Pentagon officials said al-Baghdadi had blown himself up with a suicide vest, also killing two children under 12 years, after he was caught in a dead-end tunnel during an American military raid in a northern Syrian village. Also, the next day al-Muhajir was killed in an airstrike.

The audio is the first word from the Islamic State since the attacks. It was a 7-minute 37-second recording where the group warned the US to not be happy over killing Baghdadi. “Do not be happy America, for the death of Sheikh al-Baghdadi, and do not forget the cups of death at his hands, may God accept him,” the announcement said. The recording also had accusations on the leadership of Trump. “Don’t you see how you became the laughingstock of the nations, and an old and crazy man controls your fate, whose opinion changes between morning and evening?”

Now, the audio also took a pledge allegiance to their new leader as a ritual and new leader ‘Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi’ is hardly known by anyone and nobody know anything about him. The group has not disclosed any biographical details to identify him. Daniele Raineri, a journalist and analyst who has been studying the Islamic State’s leadership structure for more than a decade said that ISIS leaders like Mr. al-Qurayshi may have had a completely different name last week and they keep changing names.

Buzz: Bunny In Footsteps Of Nani and NTR

Share

Tollywood has extensively depended on Godavari slang for years when it comes to Telugu movies of top stars. Though they haven’t used the dialect big time, the nature of satire and pun came from Godavari-based Telugu only. Even a faction film is made with Kadapa backdrop, the Telugu would be more like the one spoken in Godavari districts and more text-book kind.

Of late, Telugu filmmakers are moving close to reality when it comes to using the right language as per the context of the film’s story. We’ve seen films being made with Telangana slang and then with Chitthoor slang. Both Nani’s Krishnarjuna Yuddam and NTR’s Aravinda Sametha have this Chitthoor flavour, and they both got writer Penchal Das as their trainer to get the diction right.

And now, we hear that the same writer will be training Allu Arjun as well as director Sukumar is infusing hardcore Chittoor slang in his upcoming #AA20 whose story is based on the red sander smugglers of Nallamala forest from Chittoor area. The mega hero will be taking two months training to get the diction right, we hear.

Giving up their regular slang for the character they are playing is something that audiences would love to see. It’s very interesting that top stars are endorsing such changes now.

RTC Strike: Crucial Announcement on Nov 2?

Share

27-day-long RTC strike has crippled the public transportation in Telangana. With days passing, neither government nor RTC unions are stepping back thus complicating the issue with each day. While the High Court too asked both the parties to hold talks keeping the public inconvenience in mind and hasn’t passed any harsh orders, the deadlock is continuing in the RTC strike.

The latest development is CM KCR is all set to make a crucial announcement on RTC issue on 2nd November. Telangana state cabinet is going to convene an important meeting at 3 PM on Saturday to discuss and pass an order pertaining to RTC strike. CM KCR is expected to make an announcement and cabinet is likely to approve KCR’s decision. The state government has already indicated that it plans to bring private stage carriers to avoid public inconvenience in lieu with the ongoing strike.

According to government’s plan, only 50 percent of RTC owned buses would run. While 30 percent should be hired buses, the remaining 20 percent buses should be private stage carriers. As part of it, the TS government has already increased the hire buses from existing 26 percent to 30 percent by adding 4 percent hire buses. Now, giving permissions to the Private Stage Carriers is due.

Already, CM KCR has announced that Private Stage Carriers could be permitted based on PM Modi’s recommendation to provide better transportation to people. TS government is planning to permit the Private Stage Carriers in 4000 to 5000 routes across the state including Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Apart from this the government is also thinking on proposals to integrate the road transport with Hyderabad Metro and how to use the services of Setwin buses. Telangana State Cabinet would take crucial decisions on Nov 2nd.

Now, all eyes are on CM KCR’s announcement on Nov 2nd since 48,000-plus employees and their families are at stake.

Nirbhaya Case: Convicts To Be Hanged Soon

Share

With never-ending court hearings, the 2012 Delhi gang rape Nirbhaya case have heard it all over again for the nth time. The four convicts’ appeals have been rejected many times. However, the supreme court recognized the heinous, inhuman nature of the crime and upheld the decision to hang the convicts. Now, on the death row, people have been waiting for the day for so long as there were a couple of legal options left.

Now, the latest information is that the death penalty to the four convicts in the case will soon be carried out if not challenged before the President within seven days, Tihar jail authorities said. Three of the four convicts are lodged in Tihar jail while the fourth convict is in Mandoli’s jail. “The Delhi High Court, as well as Supreme Court, have upheld the death sentence slapped by the trial court,” Sandeep Goel, Director-General said.

It is surprising that none of the convicts went to seek for a review though they could have filed a petition challenging the death penalty and also a review petition. In spite of having the option of praying for mercy from the President seeking commutation of death sentence to life imprisonment, the four convicts did not take the step to seek a commutation of capital punishment into any other sentence.

On October 28, Tihar Jail and Mandoli jail authorities handed over notices to the convicts and informed them that they can file a mercy plea before the President within seven days. If a mercy plea is not filed, the jail administration will inform the trial court, following which a death warrant will be issued to the convicts. The death warrant will authorize the execution of the convicts.

As we know, there were six convicts and one of the accused Ram Singh had hanged himself in the jail and another, the juvenile, was convicted of rape and murder and given the maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment. The convicts who received the death penalty are Vinay Sharma, Mukesh, Akshay Kumar Singh and Pawan Gupta.

Two Mega Chances For DSP To Bounce Back

Share

Back in 2017, top composer Devi Sri Prasad has enthralled Telugu audiences with his Khaidi No 150 album, which is a feast not just for mega fans but for all the cinema lovers. Since then, he’s struggling to create another magical album that could stand in time.

Recent movies of DSP like Duvvada Jagannadham, Jai Lava Kusa, MCA, Rangasthalam, Bharat Ane Nenu, Vinaya Vidheya Rama and Maharshi have only a couple of songs in each album that clicked but did not last for a long time in the hearts and minds of audiences.

And now, he has two big chances to make a strong comeback. As he scores for Mahesh’s Sarileru Neekevvaru and #AA20, surely they are major goals for him.

Apart from an impressive background score, Devi has to make sure that the whole of the albums of these movies will be liked by music lovers big time. Otherwise, the talk that he’s not doing justice to the big remuneration he takes will come true. Even music lovers are expecting the DSP of olden times, where the whole of his album used to be a super-duper hit.

Sukumar Gave Up Rathnavelu For #AA20

Share

At one point, few combinations take a break even though they gave some stunning outputs in the past. One such combination Tollywood always talks about is none other than a combination of few directors and cinematographers. Like how Rajamouli and Senthil combination is famous, we have Sukumar and Rathnavelu similarly.

Since his debut flick Arya, Sukumar is always working with Rathnavelu, but the combination has taken a break now. While Rathnavelu is currently completing work on Mahesh’s Sarileru Neekevvaru, he has some other biggies lined up in Tollywood in a row. That now forced Sukumar to go for a new cinematographer.

MirosÅ‚aw Kuba Brozek who has done extensive work on Polish movies has debuted in Tollywood with Nani’s Gang Leader movie. As his work mesmerised Telugu folks, people are eagerly waiting for his next flick. And then came Sukumar’s film with Allu Arjun, that will have him cranking the camera.

Allu Arjun is known for bringing various cinematographers like Ayanaka Bose and Rishi Punjabi, and we have to see how this latest combination with Mr Kuba pays off.
