‘Lokesh Did Diet Deeksha’

Share

APIIC chairperson and Nagiri MLA Roja is always first to rebuke Nara Lokesh to the core. Coming down heavily on Lokesh over his one-day deeksha on the sand crisis in Andhra Pradesh, Roja has dubbed it as ‘Diet Deeksha’. She lamented that Lokesh did the Deeksha as part of his dieting.

Government Whip and YCP MLA Gadikota Srikanth Reddy too called Lokesh’s Deeksha as Donga Deeksha which he has done for his diet. Srikanth said Lokesh and TDP leaders’ Deeksha does not have sanctity.

The comments came on the day when Telugu Desam Party leaders staged a Deeksha in protest against non-availability of sand in AP. TDP leaders have criticized Jagan administration for badly messing up with sand issue leading to a huge crisis in construction industry. TDP leaders allege Jagan administration behind the shifting of sand from AP to neighbouring states Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Opposition leaders went onto blame YCP government for the suicides of construction workers who left jobless with the stalling of construction projects in and around capital city and other districts of the state.

Blaming Jagan for sand scarcity, Lokesh alleged Jagan government of selling sand in kilograms and hiking the prices.

Polavaram works begin, tough task for Megha!

Share

At last, the works on much-awaited Polavaram major irrigation project and its associated hydro-power project on Godavari river in West Godavari district began on Friday, a day after the Andhra Pradesh high court gave the green signal to the YSR Congress party government to commence the works.

The Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL), which bagged the contract for the completion of remaining of the project works by quoting nearly Rs 800 crore lesser than the initial bench mark of Rs 4987 crore, formally commenced the works by performing pooja at the project site in the afternoon.

Though the MEIL has the technical expertise to take up the project works, it has a daunting task before it to complete the works within the deadline of June 2021. If it cannot do it for any reason, the farmers will lose a complete agriculture season causing a loss of over Rs 4,000 crore.

So, whatever savings that the state government is now claiming will be wiped out with these losses. Moreover, the MEIL has bagged the contract on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis and so, it has to complete the project within the projected budget. It cannot ask for cost escalation for any other reason.

Meanwhile, workers who had not been getting their wages for several months due to uncertainty in the project staged protests at the venue and blocked the ‘bhoomi puja” function of MEIL. However, the police intervened and dispersed the agitating workers.

Irrigation minister Anil Kumar Yadav said the previous TDP government had boasted of completing the Polavaram project, but had done nothing between 2014 and 2017 and only completed the spillway in the past two years and kept on telling lies that it had completed the whole project.

T’gana RTC driver cremated amid tension in Karimnagar

Share

Hyderabad: Tension ran high in Telangana’s Karimnagar town on Friday as a driver of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), who had died of a cardiac arrest on Wednesday, was cremated amid tight security.

Police had a tough time in controlling the protesting employees and leaders of opposition parties trying to take the body to the TSRTC depot. Using mild force, the police stopped the procession from heading towards the depot.

There was heated argument between Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar of the BJP and police officials. The MP, along with his followers, later staged a protest at the Police Commissioner’s office demanding against the police personnel who allegedly misbehaved with him.

The town witnessed tension since Thursday as the MP and leaders of striking TSRTC employees protested with the dead body of N. Babu, refusing to perform the last rites till the government holds talks with the striking employees and resolve the crisis.

More than 48,000 TSRTC employees are on strike since October 5 to press for their demands including the demand for merger of TSRTC with the government.

Babu died of cardiac arrest at the public meeting organized by Joint Action Committee (JAC) of striking employees in Hyderabad on October 30.

JAC had called for ‘chalo Karimnagar’ on Friday to protest the government’s adamant attitude on their demands resulting in the deaths of workers.

Three employees have committed suicide while more than six have died of cardiac arrest. JAC and opposition parties alleged that the government has pushed the striking employees into depression by sacking them and by not paying them salary for September.

Opposition parties had called for shutdown in Karimnagar district on Friday. JAC urged the employees to stage protests at all depots.

The RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) called for closure of educational institutions in support of the demands of RTC employees.

KCR To Offer VRS To RTC Workers?

Share

Even as the Telangana cabinet is meeting on Saturday to discuss the RTC issue, everybody is waiting curiously as to what decision Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would be taking with regard to the fate of state road transport corporation and 48,000-odd employees associated with it.

According to the reports coming from the government sources, KCR is looking into various options to resolve the present crisis.

The most possible decision he might take on Saturday was privatisation of public transport and wind up the RTC altogether.

The question arises as to what would he do with nearly 50,000 employees of the corporation.

According to sources, KCR is planning to follow Madhya Pradesh model, wherein the government there had wound up its RTC way back in 2005 after it continued to pile up losses.

The employees were offered a voluntary retirement scheme. Now, private operators in Madhya Pradesh run 35,000 buses with the government providing them with the requisite permits.

A similar situation exists in Chhattisgarh, which followed the MP model and does not have an RTC.

In Jharkhand too, at the time of bifurcation from Bihar, the new State had decided against having a State-owned transport corporation.

However, there, the RTC employees allocated to Jharkhand were absorbed into different government departments. And Jharkhand then privatised all the bus routes and gave 6,000 permits to private buses which now provide transport services to the people.

The Central government has amended the Motor Vehicle Act’s Section 57 on September 1, 2019, empowering States to give route permits to private bus operators and provide them with an opportunity to extend their services to the people.

“So, it remains to be seen which model KCR will follow — Madhya Pradesh model by offering VRS to the RTC employees or Jharkhand model wherein the employees were absorbed into various departments. Both the cases involve huge financial commitment from the government,” a source in the government said.

Ravi Prakash In Soup With ‘Sanjeevani’ Scam?

Share

V Ravi Prakash, former chief executive officer of popular Telugu television channel TV9, who is presently facing several cases for allegedly indulging in cheating, forgery and siphoning of money from the Associated Broadcasting Company Ltd, the parent organisation of TV9, is said to be virtually in deep trouble following exposure of another scandal.

According to reports, Ravi Prakash and his associates have been facing allegations of siphoning of huge money collected from people in the name of Sanjeevani Hospitals set up at Kuchipudi in Krishna district.

Officials of the Krishna district medical and health department are presently investigating into what is believed to be a big scam.

There are allegations that Ravi Prakash had collected huge donations in the name of funding heart operations of poor children under the banner of “TV9 Little Hearts” 10 years ago.

Subsequently, he and his associates mobilised fresh funds in the name of Sanjeevani Hospitals at Kuchipudi.

Several people have reportedly complained to the authorities that Ravi Prakash and his partner Kuchibhotla Anand had collected huge donations from the people on the streets of Kuchipudi.

They had promised to provide free healthcare to the doorsteps of the people who were struggling to travel to Vijayawada or Machilipatnam to take treatment for various ailments.

They also promised to provide lifetime free treatment by a specialist doctor from the US for those who donated more than Rs 1 lakh to the Ravi Prakash Sanjeevani Hospitals at Kuchipudi.

Inquiry by the officials revealed that Ravi Prakash and Anand had collected several lakhs of rupees from donors in this fashion, promising them that their donations would get income tax exemption under Section 18 C.

There was a report recently that one of the donors from Kuchipudi who had suffered heart attack could not get timely treatment at Ravi Prakash Sanjeevani Hospitals due to non-availability of a specialist doctor.

His family members told the investigating officials that he died recently due to lack of treatment at the hospital. They submitted all the documentary evidences including the bank transactions to the authorities.

Now, no specialist doctors, leave alone from the US, are available in Ravi Prakash Sanjeevani Hospitals even for those who had donated lakhs of rupees. They are now shocked to know that they were taken for a royal ride by Ravi Prakash and his associates.

Following a series of cases against Ravi Prakash in the recent past, there have been apprehensions among the donors and the common people as to whether he had siphoned off the funds collected for Sanjeevani Hospitals. Even the hospital staff is now worried over their fate.

The investigations have also revealed that the promise made by Ravi Prakash to name the hospital wards and operation theatres in the name of donors was also not fulfilled.

After the arrest of Ravi Prakash, Kuchibhotla Anand held a press conference and announced the names of donors through a power point presentation, but he did not give the list of donors to the media.

Sources said the Andhra Pradesh government is taking a serious look at these allegations against Sanjeevani Hospitals and has ordered an investigation into it.

“If the allegations are proved, the noose around Ravi Prakash would be tightened,” sources added.

Aaviri Review: Thrills Gone in Thin Air

Share

Allari Ravi Babu is not new to the genre of horror thrillers. He has made several movies but his recent graph is pretty. Has he bounced back with this latest outing “Aaviri”?

Let’s find out.

Story:
A businessman Raj (Ravi Babu), his wife Leena (Neha Chauhan) and their younger daughter Munni move into an old palatial house that is built in a huge land in the heart of the city, after their first daughter died in a swimming pool in their previous residence.

Munni sees a ghost which tries to take her away from this home which is secured with cameras. After multiple failed attempts, Munni finally goes missing from the house.

What is the mystery behind this ghost?

Artistes’ Performances:
All performances are monotonous, with stock expressions. Ravi Babu and newcomer Neha don’t make any impact.

The little girl is cute in her expressions. Mukthar looks more like a corporate guy than a police officer.

Technical Excellence:
All Ravi Babu’s thrillers are shot in a single home with brightly decorated walls. He brings neat visuals within the limited setup of locations. Artwork is neat. Cinematography is adequate.

Highlights:
Some scenes towards the end

Drawback:
Predictable storyline
Nothing new
Outdated tricks

Analysis
An invisible ghost moves a chair, throws cups or glasses in the air, rams a person with a scooty and scares a Swiggy delivery boy. These are the spooky elements that Ravi Babu has presented us in this new ghost thriller ‘Aaviri’.

Ravi Babu himself had given us such stock thrills in his earlier films like ‘Avunu’ or ‘Avunu 2’.

By misguiding the viewers that the dead sister’s spirit is doing all these tricks to the most part, he reveals another twist in the end.

It looks like he has completely relied on this trick and weaved the screenplay. But this so-called shocking twist hardly shocks us.

We can easily guess who the villain is. Also, many scenes defy simple logic.

The new theory that he establishes in this film is that ‘spirits’ can’t bear the heat. If the person who is possessed by a spirit is locked in a steam room, the spirit will reveal the truths. This is what we get to know from this movie.

With stock situations, regular scenes and non-spooky elements, ‘Aaviri’ is rather a dull movie than a horror thriller. Ravi Babu disappoints once again with outdated ideas.

Bottom-line: Steam Bath!
