Will new CS really favour YSRC in polls?

Share

Soon after the Election Commission of India transferred senior IAS officer Anil Chandra Puneta from Andhra Pradesh chief secretary post and brought in LV Subrahmanyam in his place, there were speculations in a section of media that the EC had made the change only to favour YSR Congress party and create troubles for ruling Telugu Desam Party.

The way TDP president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu made an aggressive attack on the Centre and the Election Commission protesting the transfer of chief secretary gave the impression that Punetha was Naidu’s man and Subrahmanyam would favour the YSRC.

It is generally believed that Subrahmanyam was closer to Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and held key positions during his regime.

He was APIIC’s vice-chairman and managing director and was accused in the Emaar properties scam in allegedly fixing a lower rate for the 535 acres property given to Emaar group by YSR government. He was acquitted by the court later for lack of evidence.

During the Naidu regime, Subrahmanyam did not get key positions and though he is senior to Punetha, he was not made the chief secretary.

Now that he has got the position, it is believed that he might take revenge on Naidu and help YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

But there is another section which believes that Subrahmanyam might not favour Jagan coming to power, because he had to suffer a lot because of YSR family, especially Jagan.

“He is apprehensive that if Jagan comes to power, he may have to allow all sorts of illegal deals once again, which would not give him a peace of mind. So, he may not help YSRC as everybody is guessing,” another analyst said.

Before taking charge, Subrahamanyam along with his wife visited Kanakadurgamma temple in Vijayawada where he was accorded grand welcome by temple executive officer Koteswaramma.

After darshan of the goddess, he said that he had prayed for the welfare of the state and thanked the presiding deity for giving the opportunity to serve as CS.

Why is Naidu so eager to get arrested?

Share

Soon after coming to know about the abrupt transfer of senior IAS officer A C Punetha from the post of chief secretary, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu reacted wildly and shouted at the Narendra Modi at the top of his voice.

Surprisingly, Naidu expressed apprehension that he might be arrested in a day or two.

“The Centre might also arrest me tomorrow or day after. Let them do. I will go to jail but I will not yield to such intimidation,” Naidu said at the Visakhapatnam election rally.

He said not once but repeatedly about the possibility of his arrest in a couple of days.

One wonders whether Naidu really got any such hint from his sources in the Centre about his arrest or he was saying to whip up passions among the public and gain sympathy.

It appears the TDP chief is eager get arrested for some reason or the other, as he thinks it would fetch him a martyr’s image for fighting against Modi-led NDA government in the interest of the state.

Even otherwise, Naidu wants to get the political mileage by highlighting the witch-hunting of his party leaders by the Centre.

Already, Naidu sat on a dharna in Vijayawada against income tax and police raids on the residences of close aides C M Ramesh and Putta Sudhakar Yadav in Kadapa district, Bida Ravi Chandra in Nellore, Galla Jayadev in Guntur etc.

Naidu alleged that Modi was misusing central agencies to target the TDP leaders including the party candidates.

In any case, Naidu might have to face the arrest, if not now but at a later stage, since YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, if comes to power, will not rest till he sends Naidu behind the bars!

Naidu’s fresh sop: Interest-free crop loans!

Share

The manifesto released by Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday does not have any major promises to the people, except making tall claims about his government’s achievements in the last five years.

However, Naidu came out with one fresh promise – providing interest-free loans to farmers and there is no upper limit. There is no mention of any further crop loan waivers scheme this time, as Naidu has realised that it is very difficult to implement the same.

Naidu also announced implementation of “Annadata Sukhibhava” scheme – providing crop investment assistance of Rs 10,000 per year to each farmer as a permanent measure.

The other promises like creation of Rs 5,000 crore price stabilisation fund and supply of power for 12 hours to agriculture free of cost were only extension of what YS Rajasekhar Reddy government had implemented way back in 2004.

Another interesting promise made by Naidu to woo the minorities and OBCs is the creation of an exclusive bank for OBCs with a corpus fund of Rs 10,000 crore and also an “Islamic Bank” exclusively for Muslim minorities.

The other promises made by Naidu in his manifesto such as free mobile phones to self-help group women, enhancement of group insurance to the SHGs from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, payment of Rs 50,000 to each of 97 lakh women in SHGs under “Pasupu-Kukuma” scheme, Rs 3,000 each towards old age pensions for people with age limit to be reduced to 60 years, increase in unemployment allowance to Rs 3,000 per month are all existing schemes.

Kapu quota ignored in TDP manifesto!

Share

Inclusion of Kapu community in the Backward Classes list and extension of reservations to them on par with other BCs was one of the major promises made by the Telugu Desam Party in its 2014 election manifesto.

The promise fetched his party a lot of support from Kapus and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan also extended support to TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu.

But after coming to power, he completely forgot the demand.

He dodged the issue for quite a long time in the name of appointing a commission by Justice Manjunatha and it was only last year that he got a report from the commission and got it approved in the assembly ahead of the elections.

He sent the report to the centre knowing fully well that it would not be accepted as the quota exceeds beyond the upper limit of 50 per cent.

And when Narendra Modi passed a legislation 10 per cent reservations for economically backward sections, Naidu quickly used the same and announced five per cent of it for Kapus, thereby treating them as EBC, rather than OBC.

Now with the general elections just four days away, the TDP chief completely ignored the Kapu quota demand and conveniently avoided its mention in his party’s election manifesto.

All that he mentioned in the manifesto was that the government was committed to implementation of five per cent quota for Kapus under EBC and that he would extend financial benefits to the community through Kapu Welfare Corporation.

US reveals no F-16 jet shot down by India?

Share

The US leading magazine, Foreign policy, claimed that the US authorities who work on the ground duty have counted F-16 fighter jets in Pakistan’s possession and they have found none of them is missing. It means, what Indian Air Force claimed to have shot the F-16 fighter jet by Pilot Abhinandan is false, they reported.

After a prolonged debate, India asked the US government to investigate on Pak’s use of F-16 violated terms of the foreign military sale agreements. But, Pakistan has always denied using F-16 and also denied that Indian pilot has hit it on that day. Additionally, Pakistan asked the US to come and count the jets in person.

The magazine reported the news saying that two undisclosed US defence officials went to Pakistan in order to settle the matter. The investigation gave the correct count by Pakistan, it said. Now, the question arise if Indian authorities have misled the foreign community about what happened that particular day.

The magazine reports made Pakistan accuse India immediately and Director General Inter-Services Public Relations, Major Asif Ghafoor, reacted that it is now time for India to speak the truth on making false claims. “Allah be praised, truth always prevails,” he said. On the other hand, India says it has proof that Pak F-16 was shot down in February.

2019 AP Election: A repeat of 2014!

Share

The 2014 elections in Andhra Pradesh was surrounded with many speculations. While some surveys suggested that YSRCP would come into power, other surveys pointed at TDP. It seemed like it could have been anybody’s game. Back then, TDP joined hands with BJP and YSRCP stance was unclear. Cut to the elections result, TDP emerged victorious by sweeping 102 seats out of 175, while YSRCP won 67 seats. Therefore, TDP unanimously formed the government and Chandrababu Naidu was sworn-in as the first Chief Minister of the newly formed Andhra Pradesh state.

People’s faith in CBN has been paid off. In the past five years, he has managed to develop the state despite not receiving any support from the Central Government. Today, at the National level, AP aces in various areas like energy sector, agriculture, ease of doing business, and quality of life. Further, the policies and schemes formulated by the TDP government are well received by the people of the state. Be it the loan waiver, 24X7 electricity, Chandranna bheema, pensions, or pasupu-kumkuma scheme, all of them have tremendously benefited the people. Thus, the people of AP are happy with CBN’s governance and they do not have any reason to pick anybody else over him as their next CM. CBN has truly served the people to the best of his abilities and once again proved that he is synonymous with development.

In the last five years, Jagan has toured the state in the name of ‘padayatra.’ He walked over 3,500 kms and interacted with people from different parts of the state. However, because of his padayatra, Jagan barely attended the assembly. As a leader of the opposition, he could have questioned and critiqued the government policies in the assembly rather than calling out on them through the media. Also, he should have united with TDP in the fight for a special category status. When he claims it to be his top most priority, he could have left his differences and jointly fought for the common cause. In fact, a joint fight would have put much more pressure on the Central Government. So, apart from the padayatra, there is nothing notable that Jagan can be credited for.

In the current scenario, both CBN and Jagan are in a similar space, like they were in 2014. Both of them have massive following, strong candidates from each constituency, and attractive policies.. In 2014, there was indeed a ‘Modi wave’ across the nation, but now, it seems to have wavered. So, we cannot really tell if the switch in the national alliance will have an impact on TDP’s vote share. Further, YSRCP’s stance is still unclear, but speculations are running rife that it might support the BJP. In the recent Survey by Newsx and Polstrat , TDP is leading with 43 % vote share and YSRCP is at 37% . Amidst the change in equations and speculations, it would be interesting to see who will win. Since, the situation is eerily similar to that of 2014, there are all chances that the result might also be similar because it is too strange and strong to be a mere coincidence. In the recent Survey by Newsx and Polstrat , TDP is leading with 43 % vote share and YSRCP is at 37% .

Chandrababu’s Direct Attack On Lakshminarayana

Share

With just four more days left for election campaigning, TDP Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu is leaving no stone unturned as part of this make or break election for the party. In a first criticism directed towards, former CBI joint director V.V. Lakshminarayana who is contesting as Jana Sena’s candidate for Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha seat, Chandrababu said that people voting for Lakshminarayana is like ‘wasting their vote.’

Speaking at a roadshow in Visakhapatnam, he said: ‘Jana Sena’s candidate Lakshminarayana is waste. If you vote for him, you will put the future of the state at stake. Jana Sena is also a party that is not worth your vote. Again, if you see, YSRCP candidate, he cheats people and he has land grabbing cases on him. Similarly, other YSRCP leaders too have criminal and even, robbery cases on them. Do you want a future where these people will be your leaders?,’ he questioned the people of Visakhapatnam.

This is the first attack of Chandrababu on the former CBI joint director who he had praised earlier for his honest work in dealing with Jagan’s misappropriation cases as well as the Gali brothers’ mining cases. Lakshminarayana who was supposed to join the Telugu Desam Party, had eventually joined Jana Sena claiming that he believed in their manifesto which was humane and addressing all sections.

Well, we’ll have to see that Lakshminarayana has to say to Chandrababu’s direct attack on him!

Without Him, This Majili Would Have Been Tough

Share

Especially in those scenes where there is no strong content, neither some stunning performances, always the background music comes handy. And it folks like SS Thaman are on the pedal, surely they will make your emotions ride at high octane pace. That’s what happened again.

For reasons unknown, composer Gopi Sundar who has given nice songs for Majili has not spared time to deliver the background music. That’s when we hear Samantha has made Thaman watch the movie, and this talented star composer of Tollywood has delivered the unexpected.

When it comes to lifting Naga Chaitanya’s cricketing episodes to a new level, Thaman’s terrific re-recording worked out magic inside theatres. Also in those scenes where Samantha acted with eyes, Thaman has made sure that his sounding and tracks will fuel the emotion to the core. We could say that Majili will be routine fare without his composer’s support.

However, audiences are feeling that Thaman should actually give some foot tapping and soul-stirring songs as well for Telugu music lovers. These days, he’s slowed down a bit on that front.

First Look Poster: Venky & Chay’s Venky Mama

Share

The first look poster of Venkatesh and Naga Chaitanya’s ‘Venky Mama’ is out. The poster has both of them in smiles in a village backdrop.

Chay appears to be serving for Indian army and Venkatesh seems to be the happy mama in village. Though the poster promises to be a fun ride, it still keeps us curious until the teaser comes out.

The real life Mama Alludu enthralled us together in a brief combination scene in Premam and are gearing up to entertain us throughout the movie now. With F2 and Majili, Venky and Naga Chaitanya have enjoyed successes and we have to see how their Venky Mama would be.

KS Ravindra is directing ‘Venky Mama’ and it is touted to be a through entertainer.

Ravi Teja Rejects Good Scripts! What’s Up?

Share

While Shahrukh Khan is once the King of Bollywood, in recent days he has only delivered flops to his career including that of Harry Met Sejal, Raees, and Zero, which are directed by noted directors. This is because the hero is trying to bring unwanted heroism in every single movie.

Looks like even Telugu hero Raviteja is also having similar issues as he rejects some good scripts. Despite the fact that mass raja selected scripts after taking long breaks, his movies like Nela Ticket, Touch Chesi Choodu and Amar Akbar Antony ended up as miserable movies. This is because those films have that unwanted heroism, and also stuffed with all types of masala.

However, when some young directors who are delivering content-oriented films approach Raviteja, the hero is said to be rejecting them. Recently when producer Umesh Gupta of Aditya Music fame approached Ravi with a new director and good script, the hero rejected it right away. And this producer earlier made an interesting movie, Karthi’s Khaki.

Hope Ravi hasn’t lost another game changer movie like how he refused Pokiri script, which has later made Mahesh a superstar.
