Lokesh Is Mohan Babu’s First Target!
Starting Saturday, senior Telugu film actor-producer and former Rajya Sabha member Manchu Mohan Babu will kick-start his campaign for the YSR Congress party, in which he had joined early this week.
Interestingly, the first person Mohan Babu would be targeting in the Telugu Desam Party in his first campaign trail would be Nara Lokesh Babu, TDP general secretary and son of party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Mohan Babu will start his first election rally from Mangalagiri and the party leaders are expecting that his histrionic speeches will definitely attract huge crowds.
He has chosen Mangalagiri for obvious reasons because it will give him an opportunity to expose Naidu and his son at a time.
For the people of the constituency who are getting disgusted with the speeches of Lokesh which are full of goofs-up and tongue-slips, Mohan Babu’s speeches will be definitely electrifying.
He is expected to highlight the failures of the Naidu government and draw attention to the YSRC manifesto.
According to party sources, Mohan Babu, despite being a late entrant into the party, will turn out to be a major star campaigner. Because of his oratory skills, he will be definitely a major crowd puller, say analysts.
The party is expecting Mohan Babu to make extensive tour of several constituencies, as he has huge fan following among the people.
His appeal to the voters to cast their vote for YSRC will have a great impact on the party’s prospects, a party source said.

KCR follows astrologers advise on elections: Modi
Mocking his religious beliefs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has targeted Telangana CM KCR. Modi kick-started the election campaign and as part of it, he toured Mahbubnagar on Friday. In his speech Modi took pot-shots at KCR and added that fearing Modi’s waves KCR went for assembly polls early.
“KCR has the habit of relying on astrologers and they have advised him not to go for assembly and Lok Sabha elections simultaneously. Because it would bring bad results to KCR and his party. Astrologers have said Modi’ star is going to work in April and May months. So KCR has called early assembly elections,” said Modi. He questioned who will decide the future of Telangana, the people or the astrologers.
Modi further criticised KCR for not implementing central government schemes in Telangana such as housing for all and Aayushman Bharat which provides health to the poor. “About one crore people have their own houses now. How many did KCR give in Telangana? Like so KCR is obstructing many schemes that can benefit the poor and under privileged,” added the PM. Then Modi appealed to the people to vote for BJP candidates for a stronger government in the national capital.
‘Pasupu Kumkuma’ From TDP, ‘Mangalsutra’ From BJP
Indian women often have to follow many rituals and traditions in India, mostly linked to their religious practices. Cashing in on this are political parties in the country which have named welfare schemes after some of these traditional practices.
Given that women voters are a crucial populace and generally become the key deciders of a political party’s fate, most of the political parties ensure that their schemes are women-focussed. This election season seems to be all about an increased focus on women voters.
Focussing on women empowerment and financial independence, the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh has named its scheme “Pasupu Kumkuma”, signifying the divinity of turmeric and vermilion in Hindu religious practices. Pasupu Kumkuma are given to the women in every household, as a tradition, blessing them a long and happily married life.
In this case, the government’s Pasupu Kumkuma scheme provides financial assistance to women in Self-help groups apart from also providing them smartphones, for technological advancement. On the other hand, the AP government also performs “baby shower” rituals in a traditional way for pregnant women in the state under a similar scheme.
While TDP names its scheme after a traditional Hindu practice, the BJP’s manifesto promises to give mangalsutras to newly married brides. The saffron party’s manifesto includes this traditional ornament which is worn by every married woman, as a sign of her nuptials. In the past, some parties have promised free sarees and doled them out, while some are even providing marriage expenses.
While political parties have penetrated deep and are even taking over important occasions in their lives to woo them, the real question is that do women need such ritualistic practices or do they need real empowerment schemes that uplift them?
