Is Naidu Really Cool Over Jagan’s Padayatra?

Share

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been maintaining strategic silence over the overwhelming response to the Praja Sankalpam padayatra of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, which has entered 16th day on Friday.

Though there were some aggressive counter-attacks by the TDP leaders and ministers here and there to the allegations being made by Jagan during his padayatra, Naidu reportedly asked them to maintain restraint and not indulge in wild reactions.

“Let us ignore Jagan and focus on our work,” Naidu is learnt to have told the party leaders.

It means Naidu either must be taking it easy with Jagan or wants to work out counter strategies to neutralise Jagan’s impact.

In fact, sources say Naidu has not ignoring Jagan’s padayatra completely and has been getting intelligence reports from time to time.

He is also discussing with senior party leaders close to him on the strategies to be adopted by the TDP.

He reportedly asked the party leaders to identify the areas where Jagan is growing stronger and focus on strengthening the party in those constituencies.

Wherever Jagan has completed the padayatra, Naidu wants to focus on those areas, identify the key leaders who can tilt the balance in favour of the YSRC and trap them in the name of political reunification.

At the same time, in all the areas which Jagan has toured, Naidu asked the party leaders and officials to identify the issues concerning people and resolve them at the earliest by releasing special grants, so as to neutralise the impact of Jagan.

He announced that those who worked hard would be rewarded with posts. He suggested formation of Party Mitra and Mahila Mitra for every 30 voters and that they be entrusted them with booth level responsibilities, besides promoting welfare schemes in a big way.

He also suggested that the leaders explain to the people that the image of the state was being damaged due to Jagan whose name was involved in various scams such as Paradise papers.

The TDP chief directed party leaders to complete formation of 5,497 booth-level committees and publicise welfare schemes.

Will Kiran, Too, Join Hands With Naidu?

Share

The entry of Nallari Kishore Kumar Reddy into the ruling Telugu Desam Party on Thursday, led to the speculations that his elder brother and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, too, might follow suit very soon.

According to the talk doing rounds in the media circles, Kiran himself had a word with TDP president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and got his brother admitted into the ruling party.

Though Kiran is also looking at political rehabilitation, he has not spoken to Naidu about his intentions to join the TDP.

However, Naidu is learnt to have thrown an offer to Kiran as well, but the latter is said to be hesitant.

Reason is: Kiran ruled the state as the chief minister and he cannot accept a lesser post if he joins the TDP and work under Naidu. So, for now, Kiran may extend support to the TDP from outside and work for the success of his brother.

That is the reason why Naidu sought to keep Kiran in good spirits by praising him while admitting Kishore Kumar Reddy.

He recalled how Kiran fought tooth and nail against the Congress high command which sought to divide the state in the most unscientific manner.

Ironically, Kiran used to be the bitter enemy of Naidu when the latter was in the opposition.

As the chief whip of the Congress party, Kiran was attacking Naidu in the most pungent manner and when Kiran was being made the Speaker of the assembly, Naidu did not cooperate in his election unanimously.

But now, the defection of Kishore into the TDP has ended the long-standing political feud between the Nallari and Nara families in Chittoor district.

Naidu Taking It Easy With Mudragada Deadline!

Share

The latest deadline of December 6 fixed by Kapu leader and former minister Mudragada Padmanabham for the Chandrababu Naidu government to announce the reservations for Kapus is fast approaching.

But so far, there has not been any movement in the government with regard to Kapu reservations so far. And Naidu has completely ignored Mudragada and left it to the police to handle the Kapu leader, if he resorts to any agitation or rally.

On Thursday, Mudragada dashed off yet another letter to the chief minister reminding that the latter had promised during the Kakinada municipal corporation elections that he would implement the Kapu reservations issue at the earliest.

“Our community is eagerly waiting to hear the decision on December 6, the death anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar,” he said.

The Kapu leader said as the deadline was approaching, Naidu is provoking his party leaders to speak against reservation to Kapus.

The TDP leaders saying BCs will be affected if Kapus are given reservation is a lame excuse.

“We never demanded a chunk out of the quota of the BCs, which would give rise to clashes between the two communities,” Mudragada said adding that a separate quota should be created for Kapus and that too we are demanding only for the economically backward people in our community.

He also demanded a categorisation of Balija, Ontari, Telaga and Kapu.

Agnathavaasi Title Will Be Announced Before Lord Shiva

Share

It’s almost end of November and the time is nearing for Harika-Hassine film with Trivikram and Pawan Kalyan’s release in January.

Talk is that the title will be announced to the public in a day or two. In all probability, the film’s hero Pawan Kalyan will be announcing the title on Twitter.

If it is not him, the title will be announced through the production house’s Twitter account. But before this, there is a little devotional programme for the team.

The entire team will leave for Kasi on November 25. Shoots have been planned in Kasi, Gaya and Allahabad.

Meanwhile, the box with the title Agnathavaasi will be opened in Kasi Vishwanath’s temple in front of Lord Shiva.

The title will be officially announced there. With this announcement, the film might become the first film to announce its title at Kasi Vishwanath’s temple.

The film’s director Trivikram totally goes by the Hindu traditions and hero Pawan Kalyan despite marrying a Chrisitan woman, is a follower of Hindu traditions and is into astrology, homams, pujas and other rituals.

So, it is being said that both of them have decided on the plan.

Analysis: Rahul Gandhi in a new avatar

Share

Rahul Gandhi’s coronation as the Congress president next month is taking place at the right time for him and the party.

Over the last two months, he has undergone a remarkable metamorphosis. It is difficult to say why this change has taken place, but there is little doubt about its reality.

From someone who tried to cover up his inadequacies in the fields of ideas and oratory by his shrillness in parliament and outside, Rahul Gandhi has suddenly become calm and composed — a person who can articulate his views cogently and is not afraid to mock himself by saying that he has been called “stupid” by a section of netizens ostensibly associated with the saffron camp.

Little wonder, therefore, that his election rallies in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, and especially in Gujarat, have drawn more enthusiastic crowds than during his earlier campaigns in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

His maturity, too, is evident from his decision to dispense with as a propaganda ploy the popular jibe on the social media about vikas or development growing crazy in Gujarat since he does not want any disrespect to be shown towards the Prime Minister. It is possible that the refined genes of the Nehru-Gandhi family are coming to the fore.

It is for this reason that senior leaders like Sharad Pawar are no longer averse to dealing directly with him instead of preferring Sonia Gandhi.

It is not surprising, therefore, that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is no longer taking him lightly, as can be seen from the harshness of Narendra Modi’s attacks on the Congress — or “termites”, as he has called it — and his charge about the intense dislike of Gujarat which the Congress and the dynasty apparently harbour against the state.

Clearly, if the BJP is sanguine about winning 150-plus seats in Gujarat as a step towards ushering in a Congress-mukt India, then there would not have been the need for the Prime Minister to spend so much time campaigning in a single state, especially when it is regarded as his bailiwick.

Or for the BJP to raise the inevitable suspicion that it persuaded the Election Commission to delay for a few weeks the announcement of the poll dates in Gujarat so that some more sops for the electorate could be rolled out by the state government before the model code of conduct came into force.

The BJP’s nervousness about the unexpected challenge posed by someone whom it routinely derided as Pappu or an adolescent might have been exacerbated by the sudden praise heaped on Rahul Gandhi by a spokesman of the BJP’s ally, the Shiv Sena, who even said that the Congress vice-president was capable of becoming the Prime Minister — a possibility to which neither Rahul Gandhi’s friends or foes had alluded to before.

The ascent of the Nehru-Gandhi scion is also timely where the Congress is concerned. There is little doubt that the party has come out of the slough of despond into which it had sunk in the aftermath of its poorest-ever performance in the last general election.

One reason why it is no longer going about in a daze is its marginal recovery from the 2014 drubbing because of the party’s successes in the Punjab assembly elections and in the by-election in Chitrakoot in Madhya Pradesh, where it increased its vote share.

Besides, the party occupied the No. 1 position in the Goa and Manipur assemblies before the BJP lured away some of the its legislators.

The Congress is also exuding greater confidence because of the belief that it is on the verge of a generational shift which cannot but breathe new life into the party as its old guard retreats into the background and a younger lot — Sachin Pilot in Rajasthan, Jyotiraditya Scindia in Madhya Pradesh — takes charge.

Their leader, Rahul Gandhi, in his new, less arrogant avatar is expected to play a crucial role at the national level along with other youngsters who are likely to be his allies such as Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh and Tejashvi Yadav in Bihar although the latter is hamstrung by the taint of his father, Lalu Prasad’s fodder scam.

It is not that all those who are 70-plus will be put out to pasture as the BJP has done with its “margdarshak mandali” or visionary group comprising L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and others.

In the Congress, chief ministers like Amarinder Singh and Siddaramaiah will continue to play important roles. But Rahul Gandhi’s supremacy will not be in doubt just as Sonia Gandhi’s isn’t.

To many, the preponderance of the dynasty may be the fly in the ointment. No doubt the Congress’s opponents will press this point with increasing vehemence as the party shows signs of recovery via the successes of its student wing, the National Students Union of India, and its allies in the students’ union elections as in Delhi university, Allahahad university and Kashi Vidyapith. In the last two institutions, the Samajwadi Party’s students’ wing won over the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the BJP’s student wing.

But the fact that the Congress is no longer a pushover is evident if only because it is gaining from the BJP’s missteps on the economy and its failure to control the militants in its ranks as can be seen from the threats that are being made against the director and actors of the film, “Padmavati”, because it does not conform to the saffron version of medieval Indian history.

‘Padmavati’ controversy: Fair is foul and foul is fair

Share

“Padmavati”, in a sense, is a neighbourhood story. My village, Mustafabad, happens to be in Rae Bareli, which embraces numerous Chishtiya Sufi shrines or places where the saints spent some time, including Khwaja Ashraf Jehangir Semnani, the saint Malik Mohammad Jaisi, the author of “Padmavat”, was devoted to. Jaisi would faint at the controversy surrounding his masterpiece.

From nearby Salon, Naeem Ata Shah in his flowing orange robes and headgear, often visited Mustafabad. Jaisi, who preceded Tulsidas, in the list of great poets of Awadhi, was an endless source of quotations. So was Tulsidas, whose correspondence with emperor Akbar’s premier courtier, Abdul Rahim Khan e Khana, on meter and structure of poetry, one heard about later and which is something one would have expected more scholarship on.

To a most unexpected source I owed my acquaintance with the fact that Rahim, known for his dohas, wrote devotional poetry on Lord Rama in Sanskrit. The source happened to be Vishnu Kant Shastri, former Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University. It always puzzled me how a man of such catholic interests — knew Jaisi as well as Akbar Allahabadi backwards — had actually emerged from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) stable.

If Jaisi’s flight of fancy can create so much mayhem, I shudder to contemplate the fate of the 1960 classic, Mughal-e-Azam, in a similar circumstance. By today’s yardstick, that was the original, unadulterated case of “Love Jihad”. In fact the settled conventional wisdom in the 1960s conceded Akbar victory at Haldighati.

The national mood today has reversed the outcome of that battle in favour of Maharana Pratap. There have been suggestions that New Delhi’s Akbar Road be renamed “Maharana Pratap Road”. In other words, revenge with retrospective effect is in order. To give this trend a more contemporary twist, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has demanded that a FIR be lodged against Mulayam Singh Yadav for ordering the police to fire on ‘kar sewaks’ in 1990.

In that framework, it can be argued that producer K. Asif glorified Akbar’s Love Jihad. For that unforgivable guilt, copies of the film must be consigned to the flames by way of historical revenge. Dilip Kumar, who played Prince Salim, is unwell; otherwise he could have been brought into focus of public ire with great effectiveness on the eve of key elections with a singular purpose — polarise the poll.

At a time when logic has been crowded out by a rush of non sequitur, some pundits have attempted common sense. It will not work.

The new cultural brigade destroyed the grave of Wali Dakhni who showered adoration on this land with such verses as:

“Koocha e yaar ain Kashi hai
Jogiya dil wahaan ka baasi hain.”
(The lane where my beloved lives is like holy Varanasi;
The yogi of my heart has made it his dwelling place.)

The sentiments the poet represents did not deter the vandals seething with anger against past historical injustices.

Never will the bandish “Munmohan Braj ke rasiya” in Raag Paraj, steeped in Krishna lore, be sung better than by Ustad Faiyyaz Khan. They tried to desecrate his grave in Vadodara, regardless.

Rasoolan Bai’s plaintive appeals to Rama, in so many of her songs, did not protect her house from being gutted during the 1969 Gujarat riots. It did not matter that the Congress was in power then. What is being tapped into is something which gained a lease of life after Partition and which invites instant, angry, passionate response at the street level.

In his very first speech in Parliament after the 2014 elections, this was precisely the nerve Narendra Modi touched: “The nation has to recover from the subjugation of 1,200 years”. This is what differentiates the present government from previous regimes. Congressmen may have privately believed in “1,200 years of subjugation”, but they considered it tactically proper to speak only of the British as foreigners.

Let us, meanwhile, revert to Jaisi’s purpose in Padmavati. The sentiment is common in Western poetry too. The “desire of the moth for the star, of the night for the morrow. The devotion to something afar from the sphere of our sorrow.”

Shelley’s lines are an ultra simplified version of the interplay between love and beauty which Jaisi is delineating. Padmini and Khalji are secular symbols of Jaisi’s elaboration of the theme on an epic scale.

Keat’s “Beauty is truth, truth beauty, that is all ye know on earth and all ye need to know” can also be tossed in to simplify communicating Jaisi.

Maulana Hasrat Mohani communicates the mood thus:
“Maslak I Ishq hai parastish e husn
Hum naheen jaante azaab-o-sawab.”
(Love’s purpose is adoration of beauty.
Gains and losses I do not measure.)

Should the ever-expanding tribe of the new cultural warriors run out of ideas, here are some on offer, gratis. They should denigrate with retrospective effect those Muslims who dared to take liberties with Hindu Gods. Remember, how India’s greatest modern painter, Maqbool Fida Husain, was exiled for his supreme guilt: Excessive adoration of Goddesses. His “adoration” was considered lewd by the protectors of culture and faith.

Well, in like fashion, Maulana Hasrat Mohani deserves to be shamed retrospectively. He wrote a great deal about Krishna in Urdu, but in his Bhasha or Braj verses he takes liberties:
“Mose ched karat Nandlal”
(Krishna teases me all the time)
“hum hoon jo dei liptai ke Hasrat
Saari yeh chalbal nikaal”
(One day I shall embrace him tight and squeeze out all his mischief)
“Squeeze out”, in a tight embrace, has erotic connotations which should be unacceptable to the new cultural brigade.

Will Charan’s Success Rub Off Him?

Share

There was a time when Ram Charan got too repetitive and the critics and audiences were after him to try something new. That was when he did Dhruva.

The film was the remake of Tamil hit Thani Oruvan and Charan took up the challenge of remaking it in Telugu. Despite the film having a strong villain, Charan took on the film and it worked.

The film released last December and it gave a different image to Charan. To put it shortly, it worked for Charan.

Now, his cousin Sai Dharam Teja is trying to do the same to his career. Sai Dharam Teja is presently shooting for the film Jawaan. One look at the trailer of the film and you can feel that it is similar to Dhruva.

The film is slated for release in December and Sai Dharam Teja too is banking big time on the film. Just like Charan back then, Teja is going through a low phase and he is looking to Jawaan to revive his career.

The film is associated with Dil Raju, so it is getting as much pre-release publicity as possible. Now, it remains to be seen if Sai Dharam Teja can repeat his cousin’s magic!

Well, That’s One Bounce Back!

Share

Film industry is one place where all actors have a shelf life. Of course, after those years, one could still continue doing films, but the best is long over. So is the case with heroes.

In case of top heroes, their shelf life extends between 7 to 12 years. Even if they continue doing films after that, the best is already over. And just like heroes, heroines too have a shelf life, albeit a shorter one.

But one girl who has defied this rule is Kajal Aggarwal. Last year, everyone had predicted the end of her career.

Following the release of Sardar Gabbar Singh and Brahmotsavam and her films not working in Tamil and Hindi, it was thought that she would bid good bye to the industry. But she said ‘yes’ to Khaidi No 1 opposite Chiranjeevi and lo behold, her career was back on track.

And this year, saw the release of Nene Raju Nene Mantri and Mersal. Also, she is flexible about her remuneration depending on the project. So, she is a hit with senior and junior stars.

Goes without saying, it is one bounce back that is noteworthy. We wish her best.

Police Fines Hero for Selfie in Traffic

Share

In a first of its kind incident, Mumbai traffic police has fined Bollywood hero Varun Dhawan for taking a selfie with a fan amidst traffic jam.

Recently, when Varun was stuck in a traffic jam on a Mumbai road, he was requested by a fan in a stationary auto-rickshaw for a selfie. The actor obliged his fan’s small request as all the vehicles on the road were stationary. The next day when the selfie was published in newspapers, Mumbai police took serious note of it, and warned the actor on Twitter.

“These adventures surely work on the silver screen but certainly not on the roads of Mumbai! U have risked ur life, ur admirer’s & few others. V expect better from a responsible Mumbaikar & youth icon like U! An E-Challan is on d way 2 ur home. Next time, V will B harsher,” tweeted Mumbai police to Varun Dhawan.

The young hero took the rebuke in his stride, and apologized for his action. “My apologies. Our cars weren’t moving since we were at a traffic signal and I didn’t want to hurt the sentiment of a fan but next time I’ll keep safety in mind and won’t encourage this,” he replied to Mumbai police.

Most netizens took the side of Varun and opined that Mumbai police went ‘overboard’ since a celebrity was involved. They lauded Varun for his graceful apology, and mature handling of the situation.

Pic: Katrina Looks Elegant In Traditional Attire

Share

Over the time, Katrina Kaif has proved that she is amongst the fashion icons we have in Bollywood.

She has been treating fans with her beautiful pictures and videos on her Instagram page since the time she joined social media this year.

Today, Katrina posted a picture where she is slaying it in a traditional Indian look. In the picture, the stunning beauty is seen wearing a blue low neck blouse with a fluorescent green-pink dupatta.

She rounded her look by donning a pink bindi, a Kundan necklace, jhumkas, hair tied in a low bun and sporting a gajra with it.

Katrina captioned the picture on Instagram stating, “u brosie @kkapadias”

On the work front, she will be seen with Salman Khan in Tiger Zinda Hai. The actress will be working with Salman after a long gap.

The first song ‘Swag Se Swagat’ from the film was released a few days ago. Salman and Kat’s chemistry has become one of the best highlights of the song.

Dead body with anti-‘Padmavati’ slogans found in Jaipur fort

Share

Jaipur: The body of a 40-year-old man was found hanging from the outer walls of Nahargarh Fort here on Friday morning, with the message “‘Padmavati’ ka virodh” – in protest against the film “Padmavati”.

The message, written on the stones near the fort wall adjacent to the body, read, “Hum putle nahin jalate….latkate hain” (we don’t burn effigies, we hang them).

“It is early to comment on it as the matter is under investigation. The identity of the man, around 40-years-old, is yet to be ascertained,” Satyendra Singh, DCP Jaipur (North), told IANS.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmavati” has been mired in controversies since its shooting started. Activists of the Karni Sena, a Rajput community, besides other groups have been protesting against the movie, claiming the film “distorts” historical facts.

“They are trying to defame queen Padmavati by distorting historical facts. It is not acceptable,” an activist of the Karni Sena said.

Activists of the Karni Sena earlier this month vandalised a theatre in Kota, Rajasthan, over reports that it was showing a trailer of “Padmavati”. A Karni Sena leader threatened actress Deepika Padukone, who plays the lead in the movie, with physical harm.

The release of the movie, earlier scheduled for December 1, has been deferred.
