Rakul Hikes her Remuneration!

Share

Thanks to the biggest film of her career so far, SPYder, reigning actress Rakul Preet Singh has reportedly hiked her remuneration to a staggering Rs 2.5 Cr.

After watching the promos of SPYder, the way she is cooperating with makers for promotional activities and also fallen by her charms, Tamil filmmakers are now reportedly approaching her with lucrative offers opposite star heroes. Rakul might have decided to make hay while the sun shines and hiked her remuneration to Rs 2.5 Cr.

Interestingly, some Tamil producers reportedly agreed to pay such high amount to her as they knew that her presence will facilitate them to dub their films in Telugu. It is known that films of top league Tamil stars such as Ajith, Vijay, Suriya, Vikram, Karthi, Vishal, Dhanush, Siva Karthikeyan etc. are being dubbed and released in Telugu. So, the presence of a heroine who had already achieved stardom in Telugu will automatically help their cause. Rakul understands this and thus might have hiked her remuneration to Rs 2.5 Cr, which places her next only to Nayanthara and Anushka in South.

Rakul has been an in-demand and top league actress in Tollywood for past two years or so. She has already acted with almost all the top league actors here. She hasn’t signed any Telugu film after SPYder as she is now reportedly looking to tap Tamil market and make her presence felt in Telugu through dubbed films. Karthi’s upcoming film ‘Khakee’ is one such attempt.

JLK Hits Century at Box Office

Share

NTR Jr’s latest release ‘Jai Lava Kusa’ stormed into the Rs 100 Cr club in six days, as per the claims of makers.

After having a great run in the first weekend (four days), Jai Lava Kusa witnessed significant drops from Monday. The film however didn’t find a problem in breaching the Rs 100 Cr club thanks to the staggering collections in the first four days. As now officially announced by the makers, JLK grossed Rs 100 crore at worldwide box office. The film raked in around $1.4M at US box office.

This film is said to be the second highest grosser in NTR’s career after ‘Janatha Garage’, which collected over Rs 135 Cr worldwide in full run. Can JLK go past it and emerge NTR’s highest grosser? Its very difficult to predict as of yet since it depends on several factors.

On the downside, the film witnessed significant drops from Monday, Mahesh Babu’s SPYder is having a humongous worldwide release today and snatching all the attention from the previous releases and Sharwa’s highly expected Mahanubhavudu is hitting screens in two days. On the positive side, Dussehra holidays may work in favor of JLK. The film’s performance also depends on the talk of its two competitors.

Tollywood Turned Highly Cautious About Results

Share

Once upon a time, if anyone stated that they are going for a reshoot of some scenes, there used to be that typical look from everyone as if they are committing a sin. But thanks to Koratala Siva, who has completely opened eyes of everyone about these reshoots.

“After a film releases in theatre, we cannot do anything about the result. So there is no wrong in doing reshoots as many times as we want before it releases. It is for the betterment of the film only”, said Koratala, while promoting Janata Garage. At the same time, Nagarjuna is also busy asking his directors to reshoot a couple of scenes whenever he didn’t like the output. That’s the reason films like Soggade Chinni Nayana and Rarandoi Veduka Chooddam became successful films.

Treading on the same path, some ace producers like Dil Raju and Allu Arvind are now asking their directors to reshoot some slow and uninteresting scenes though they cost them. In the recent times, many films have undergone such reshoots. The latest talk is that even Raja The Great and Rangasthalam 1985 are also filming some scenes again as the first version didn’t convince the makers. Though Megastar Chiru is known for changing the pace of film through his inputs in the editing room, now he’s also advising his son to go for reshoots to make a scene better.

All in all, Tollywood became over cautious about the result and hence taking huge care before the release of a movie itself such that the end-product will be attractive and money-spinning.

Raja Gets 18 Crores, That’s Not Madness!!

Share

With some top North based Hindi channels buying a stake in South channels, especially Telugu channels, more and more channels are buying dubbing rights of Telugu films such that their catalogue will be extended to all over the country. But that is also making trade circuits wonder as to why they will shed huge budgets even for typical commercial films.

Mass Raja Ravi Teja has been out of reach for the last couple of years after his outings like Kick 2 and Bengal Tiger ended up disappointing audiences. He is making his comeback with Raja the Great where he will be seen as a blind person. Buzz has that the satellite rights along with the digital rights and the Hindi dubbing rights of Raja the Great have been sold for 18 crores which is something huge and surprising.

While the hero has been inactive from films and his past films failed to make any impact, director Anil Ravipudi also hasn’t scored any such big commercial blockbuster till date. Still, Raja the Great managed to strike a massive deal, and the inside source revealed that it is entirely due to producer Dil Raju. The ace producer scored massive hits this year, and as he exuded confidence that this film will also become a big hit, Bollywood channels showed huge interest in the movie.

Trade analysts, however, give a different picture about Big Corporate Houses shedding such massive amounts for a Telugu commercial potboiler. ‘Hindi-dubbed Telugu films of star heroes have been bringing good TRPs to Hindi channels from last couple of years. And, the craze for Telugu films has almost doubled after Baahubali mesmerized the North cine buffs. The concept of Kabaddi-playing blind protagonist obviously holds the attention of a regular movie buff. Moreover, Ravi Teja has become a noted face to Hindi audiences especially after his ‘Kick’ was remade by Salman Khan”, an analyst commented.

So investing 18 crores for rights of Raviteja film is not at all madness but pure profitable business strategy.

‘Bigg Boss Show Can’t Get TRPs Without Me’

The 11th season of India’s one of the most controversial reality shows, Bigg Boss, was launched on Tuesday evening at a grand event in Mumbai. Salman Khan, who returned as Host for yet another year, said that the channel keeps bringing him back as the show can’t get TRPs without him.

For past 3-4 years, it has become routine for Bigg Boss fans to hear Salman Khan announcing to stop hosting the show, but he keeps returning for the new seasons. In fact, the show organizers even twice tried airing the show without him, and realized that they can’t do without Salman’s star power. On returning to host the new season, Salman told the same, albeit in a lighter vein.

When asked about the best aspect of Bigg Boss show, Salman said that the love-hate relationships shared by the participants is one of the best things. When asked if Salman was really being paid Rs 11 Cr per episode, the Channel CEO reportedly said, ‘Salman Khan doesn’t come cheap’, indicating that a huge amount was indeed paid as the actor’s remuneration.

Bigg Boss Season 11 will start airing from Sunday, October 1.

SPYder Movie Review

Share

Release of Superstar Mahesh Babu’s film is always an event in Tollywood. Like always there are sky high expectations on Mahesh’s latest film Spyder. Directed by Murugadoss, the film is made Telugu and Tamil simultaneously. Murugadoss who has an impeccable track record as a director couldn’t live up to expectations this time.

Story:

Siva (Mahesh) is a small employee in the intelligence bureau. He develops special software that will alert him when people are in need. He uses IB’s access to all phones and with his software he tracks down the criminals and stops them from committing crime. But he couldn’t save two women from a psycho killer in spite of knowing that they are in danger. Now Siva is determined to find the killer and comes to know that he is Bhairavudu (Surya) a psychotic personality. The remaining film is about their face off and Siva putting an end to Bhairavudu.

Performances:

Mahesh: Mahesh is fit and perfect as the leading man. His styling as the intelligence bureau officer is very impressive. There are a couple of scenes that shows the best actor in him. However, we have to admit that Mahesh is not used to the full potential by Murugadoss. He is a very good actor that can pull off any role, but directors are not utilizing the powerhouse of talent.

Surya and Others: Rakul Preeth Singh got another typical Telugu heroine role. Her characterization is weird and doesn’t give any scope to perform. SJ Surya as the villain is one of the major highlights. He sparks off the proceedings right from the introduction and does a splendid job overall. Priyadarshi and others didn’t really have any scope.

Technicalities:

Direction:Murugadoss tries to blend action and social message into the story. His signature style is present but the authority with which he deals such subjects is missing. There are a few standout scenes that show his mark, but the film suffers a lot due to weak plot. Director relies upon lengthy episodes to engage the audience. It is a lackluster attempt from Murugadoss, who is a good storyteller.

Music and Others:Harris Jayaraj scored brownie points with his signature background score. But the soundtrack is pretty ordinary. Santosh Sivan’s cinematography is impressive. Visual effects are very poor. The film is made on a very high budget, but it doesn’t look like one because of the poorly done special effects.

Thumbs Up:

  • Mahesh
  • SJ Surya
  • Pre interval sequences

Thumbs Down:

  • Logic-less
  • Poor climax
  • Weak script

Analysis:

Murugadoss’s goal is to make a stylish action thriller with a different setup. The protagonist using the information of Intelligence bureau to save people from their problems is unique despite sounding illogical. This aspect would have been intriguing if the initial scenes are taken care of. Hero’s motive is explained through dialogue and his execution seems very much hurried that doesn’t leave any impact.

Soon after the initial setup the film turns into a mystery where the protagonist goes in search of a serial killer. Murugadoss breaks the norms and takes a longtime to establish the villain’s character. Flashback scenes of the villain are shot impressively and this is easily the best sequence of the movie. Pre interval scenes are gripping and set mood for a perfect interval bang. One would expect that the fight between hero and villain will be very exciting because of their characterizations.

However, Murugadoss turned it into regular hero-villain affair without much excitement. A lengthy scene where the hero tracks down villain in the hiding is good, but dragged a bit too much. There is one absolutely unnecessary scene with a rolling stone followed by a clumsy climax. All the action episodes looked disastrous on screen due to pathetic graphics work. Second half is filled with many action episodes due to the lack of story.

There are a few other problems with the film like the romance track between Mahesh and Rakul that is completely out of place and sounds absurd. Songs are not so impressive and come as speed breakers to the flow. Most of the supporting actors are from Tamil cinema, which makes it look like a dubbed film at times.

Spyder has some bright moments here and there besides good performances of Mahesh and Surya. But the magic of Murugadoss has been missing with the logic going for a toss. Spyder is different from regular stuff, but misses the mark by a fair distance. It will go down as another disappointment from superstar whose last film was a huge misfire.

Verdict: No Spyce!

AP Govt’s Bumper Offer to SPYder

Share

Superstar Mahesh Babu’s ‘SPYder’, which is slated to hit screens across the country tomorrow, is poised to mint money like anything with the kind of widest release it is having. Tickets are being sold like hot cakes.

The Andhra Pradesh government has now given a bumper offer to the film by giving permission to theatre managements to hike ticket price. With this, the tickets that cost Rs 150 will be sold for Rs 200 and the Rs 200 ones for Rs 250. The permission has reportedly been given in response to the request of theatre managements.

Well, this move has its own benefits and drawbacks. On one hand, exhibitors can mint more money quickly and on the other hand common movie goer may stay away from theatres annoyed with the sudden hike. Anyway, theatre owners have the feasibility of dropping the price if they witness repulsion from audience.

It is known that the Telangana govt. has already permitted all single screen theatres in the state to screen five shows a day. With the two Telugu states giving such bumper offers to big films, most of the investment is being recovered in the first few days itself, irrespective of the talk. It needs to be seen how much SPYder can cash on.
