Other day Indian government has conferred Dadasaheb Phalke Award to Telugu director K Viswanath whose films have won National Awards five times and the content of those movies always reeled around social issues.

Sharing his thoughts about winning this prestigious award, K Viswanath says, “I’m lucky”. Of course, every award winner feels the same but there is more hard work behind such achievement. He adds, “I felt like that Lord Kasi Viswanath has come to offer another of his golden ox (Nandi) to me”.

Viswanath has no regrets about getting the award little late and he points out in return, “75 will not come directly after 73, there is 74 in between. So you will get what you have to when the time is right”. However, he revealed that he isn’t satisfied as a director yet. “I can’t sit at home thinking that I’ve made Sankarabaranam, the journey must go on. But I don’t consider this journey as doing some great contribution to arts and culture. I’ve done my job in a responsible way without unfollowing ethics”. How modest he is!!

Talking about present generation filmmakers, Viswanath avers, “They are undergoing through huge pressure. A huge set of husbands needs to be satisfied by these directors. While Draupadi has 5 husbands, these youngsters have 50 of them on their shoulders, giving ideas, throwing challenges and creating hurdles”.

Signing off, Viswanath stated that he will continue his journey as an actor rather director. “I don’t want to spoil the name K Viswanath”, he puts in a better way.

Superstar Rajinikanth, who was last seen as an ageing gangster in PA Ranjith’s ‘Kabali’, will reportedly essay the character of dreaded underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s mentor in the same director’s next gangster flick.

After completing his portions for Shankar’s ‘2.0’, Rajini is likely to commence shooting for Ranjith’s new gangster film. Rajinikanth will reportedly reprise the role of Mumbai-based underworld don Sultan Mirza alias Haji Mastan.

Mirza, a Tamilian by birth, shifted to Mumbai during his childhood. He slowly emerged as the most notorious underworld don whose main businesses were smuggling and extortion. He is also known as the mentor of Dawood Ibrahim. Vidya Balan is likely to pair with Rajinikanth in this PA Ranjith directorial, which will be bankrolled by Dhanush.

A Bollywood film titled ‘Once Upon A Time in Mumbai’ was recently made which was allegedly based on the lives of Sultan and Dawood. Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi played the roles respectively.

Chiru To Quit Politics?

Share

chiru

Is Chiranjeevi getting ready to quit politics? Going by the prevailing conditions, looks like Chiru wants to say bid adieu to politics and want to seriously pursue his career as actor.

Especially, the super success of Khaidi No.150 has given a new boost to Chiru. Chiru is looking elated after the film’s success and he is totally enjoying the success. Also, it seems, he has totally distanced himself from the political works and he hasn’t made any political statements in the recent times.

In addition to this, when music director MM Keeravani has asked Chiru, during Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu show, to continue as actor, Chiru too responded quite positively and said, “May be. If you strongly wish for it, may be destiny too happen as per your wish.”

With Chiranjeevi himself responding positively on quitting politics and this is followed by Ram Charan’s statement to fans to support Babayi Pawan politically and socially, looks like, Chiru is mulling to quit politics. Since he has already given up his Praja Rajyam Party and joined Congress that is routed in AP totally, Chiru may not be interested to join any political party at this juncture and looks like he is jumping so many political parties.

Already, Charan announced Chiru’s 151st with Surender Reddy and this will be followed by Chiru 152 with Boyapati Sreenu, looks like Chiru’s plate is full with films and he is slowly quitting politics. Probably, Chiru wants to follow Amitab Bachchan and continue just in films.

While the sad story of killing a Telugu Engineer Srinivas Kuchibotla in United States has shocked one and all, it is now being taken up as the prime storyline for an upcoming Hollywood film which is to be helmed by director Dave Pinn.

There are several instances, in the past, where Hollywood filmmakers got inspired from real incidents and developed a plot around it. Now, this pressing piece will be used to generate a new ray of hope among immigrants from all over the world. So, they titled it ‘Ray of Hope’ – and this comes at the time when the number of hate-crime attacks are beefed up and Trump’s new immigration policy is receiving a lot of flak.

In the end, it remains to be seen how the filmmaker is going to project this ‘hate-crime’ story which left several Indians in a disgusted state.

On 22nd February, Srinivas Kuchibotla was shot by a 51-year Adam Purinton at a bar in Kansas City. The gunman, who was taken into police custody next day, yelled ‘get out of my country’ after shooting Srinivas and his friend Ajay. The 32-year old Indian Engineer, who’s survived with a wife, was working with an American MNC from 2014.

Varma Followed Megastar's Advise?

Share

ramgopalvarma21449576211

This could be the most shocking happening of the 21st century, as director Ram Gopal Varma is known for the attitude of listening to none when it comes to his films. That’s the reason his “Shiva” became a golden, career defining hit, though many predicted a flop result for it.

Currently, Varma is in Mumbai, working on his latest project “Sarkar 3”. However, this film was supposed to release long back but it hasn’t locked on any date. Buzz is that currently, Varma is re-editing most parts of this lengthy film and chopping some lagging portions. Guess what, there is a person behind this.

After watching the final copy, Megastar Amitabh Bachan, the main lead of the film, is heard advising Varma to reduce the length of the film and slim certain portions. Taking his advise to heart, our maverick filmmaker is now chopping unwanted scenes and lengths, say reports.

But from when Varma has started to listening to others for his film? Definitely, this is a good change that could be seen in him in the recent times, in case if the news is true. However, that leads to one doubt, has those creative juices in Varma got dried up that he’s now depending on others for opinion?

No Politics Please, Says Brahmani

Share

brahmini

It is now official. Nara Brahmani, wife of Telugu Desam Party general secretary and Andhra Pradesh IT minister Nara Lokesh, has declared that she has no intention of coming into politics.

“I have absolutely no interest, whatsoever, in politics. I am happy to be the Executive Director of Heritage Foods. And my objective is to see that Heritage would be one of the big business houses in the country with a turnover of over Rs 6,000 crore by 2022,” Brahmani said to media, at the rebranding of the Heritage on the completion of its 25 years of incorporation.

She said Heritage will now be more into value added products. She said the company wants to saturate in the core markets of the 15 states before they enter into any new states.

Brahmani’s statement must be a big relief for leaders like Kesineni Nani or Lagadapati Rajagopal, who are apprehensive that she might pitch in for the Vijayawada Lok Sabha seat.

In fact, Brahmani hinted at the recent National Womens’ Parliament itself that she was not interested in politics for now and so, there was no question of entering politics.

She said she was at present extremely busy in developing the family business venture Heritage. However, she would take part in the social service activities on behalf of NTR Memorial Trust.

There were reports that Brahmani was evincing interest in politics some time ago. In fact, Naidu was surprised when Brahmani commissioned a survey on the prospects of the TDP in the next elections and came to the conclusion that the wind is blowing against the ruling party.

It had raised the doubt as to whether she was evincing interest in politics. But after Lokesh started playing key role in the TDP, Brahmani might have thought there was no point in growing into another power centre in the TDP!

'Infosys, TCS accounted only 8.8% H-1B visas'

visa

New Delhi: IT industry body Nasscom on Monday came out in defence of its members TCS and Infosys, saying the two accounted for only 7,504 — 8.8 per cent — of the approved H-1B visas in 2014-15.

The US has accused top Indian IT firms TCS and Infosys of “unfairly” cornering the lion’s share of the H-1B work visas by putting extra tickets in the lottery system.

Indian technology firms use H-1B visas to send their employees to work at customer sites in the US, which is the largest market for the over $110 billion Indian IT export industry.

Over the past few weeks, there is a growing sentiment of protectionism across various markets, including the US, that are seeking to safeguard jobs for locals and raise the bar for foreign workers.

“Nasscom would like to clarify on the statements made by the White House on Indian companies getting the lion’s share of H-1B visas and highlight that in 2014-15, only six of the top 20 H-1B recipients were Indian companies,” it said in a statement.

TCS and Infosys together received 7,504 approved H-1B visas in 2014-15, which is only 8.8 per cent of the total approved H-1B visas, it added.

While the two software exporters have not issued a formal statement on the issue, they have stated that they ensure compliance with norms in the markets that they operate in.

Every year, the US grants 65,000 H-1B visas while another 20,000 are set aside for those with US advanced degrees.

In the US, the Trump administration wants to replace the current lottery system with a more merit-based immigration policy.

Any change in visa norms can affect the movement of labour as well as spike operational costs for IT players.

Nasscom highlighted that “every reputable data source” in the US has documented a growing shortfall between the supply and demand for computer science majors in the US workforce.

This is especially true in advanced fields like cloud, big data and mobile computing, it said.

“All Indian IT companies cumulatively account for less than 20 per cent of the total approved H-1B visas although Indian nationals get about 71 per cent of the H-1B visas,” Nasscom said.

It added that this is a testimony to the high skill levels of India-origin professionals.

The annual number of Indian IT specialists working on temporary visas for Indian IT service companies is about 0.009 per cent of the 158-million-member US workforce, it said.

Critics believe that the prevailing visa regime allows companies to bring in “cheap” labour from countries like India, which adversely impacts local employment opportunities.

Nasscom contended that the average wage for visa holders is over $82,000, apart from a fixed cost of about $15,000 incurred for each visa issued (including visa cost and related expenses).

This is over 35 per cent higher than the minimum prescribed exempt wage of $60,000, Nasscom said.

The industry body said companies tend to bridge the skills gap by bringing in highly skilled professionals to temporarily work in the US on H-1B and other visas.

“Indian IT Industry is a ‘net creator’ of jobs in the US and supports nearly half a million jobs directly and indirectly,” it pointed out.

Also, domestic companies are beginning to tweak their business models to reduce their dependence on visas by hiring more locals. (PTI)

Sharat Marar Upset With Pawan Kalyan?

Share

pk

The initial plan about ‘Katamarayudu’ was to make the movie on a shoe-string budget and gross an excellent table-profit.

Although the film bombed at the box-office, the plan worked like a peach and Pawan Kalyan and Sharat Marar made good money.

However, the latest gossip in the industry is that Sharat Marar is an upset man. Reason?

Pawan Kalyan was initially supposed to pocket Rs 25 crore from the proceeds of the film but ultimately ended up taking around Rs 35 crore.

Naturally, this ate into the profits of Sharat Marar. Hence the reason for the bad mood.

Well, he shouldn’t really be complaining because at the end of the day, in Tollywood, it is better to end up with some kind of profits for a disaster like ‘Katamarayudu’ instead of suffering losses like the foolish buyers.
