Pope: Church should ask forgiveness from gays for past treatment

Share

pope

Pope Francis said on Sunday that Christians and the Roman Catholic Church should seek forgiveness from homosexuals for the way they had treated them.Speaking to reporters aboard the plane taking him back to Rome from Armenia, he also said the Church should ask forgiveness for the way it has treated women, for turning a blind eye to child labour and for “blessing so many weapons” in the past.

Freewheeling chat

In the hour-long freewheeling conversation that has become a trademark of his international travels, Pope Francis was asked if he agreed with recent comments by a German Roman Catholic cardinal that the Church should apologise to gays. The pontiff looked sad when the reporter asked if an apology was made more urgent by the killing of 49 people at a gay club in Orlando, Florida this month.

“Church says don’t discriminate against gays”

Pope Francis recalled Church teachings that homosexuals “should not be discriminated against. They should be respected, accompanied pastorally.”He added: “I think that the Church not only should apologise … to a gay person whom it offended but it must also apologise to the poor as well, to the women who have been exploited, to children who have been exploited by [being forced to] work. It must apologise for having blessed so many weapons.”

What Church says

The Church teaches that homosexual tendencies are not sinful but homosexual acts are, and that homosexuals should try to be chaste.Pope Francis repeated a slightly modified version of the now-famous “Who am I to judge?” comment he made about gays on the first foreign trip after his election in 2013.“The questions is: if a person who has that condition, who has good will, and who looks for God, who are we to judge?”

Forgiveness, not just apology

Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said that the Pope, by saying “has that condition”, did not imply a medical condition but “a person in that situation”. In Italian, the word “condition” can also mean “situation.”“We Christians have to apologise for so many things, not just for this [treatment of gays], but we must ask for forgiveness, not just apologise! Forgiveness! Lord, it is a word we forget so often!” he said.

To gays, he is the most merciful

Pope Francis has been hailed by many in the gay community for being the most merciful Pope towards them in recent history and conservative Catholics have criticised him for making comments they say are ambiguous about sexual morality. He told reporters on the plane “there are traditions in some countries, some cultures, that have a different mentality about this question [homosexuals]” and there are “some [gay] demonstrations that are too offensive for some.”But he suggested that those were not grounds for discrimination or marginalisation of gays.

What he meant by forgiveness?

The Pope did not elaborate on what he meant by seeking forgiveness for the Church “having blessed so many weapons,” but it appeared to be a reference to some Churchmen who actively backed wars in the past.In other parts of the conversation, the pontiff said he hoped the European Union would be able to give itself another form after the United Kingdom’s decision to leave.“There is something that is not working in that bulky union, but let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water, let’s try to jump-start things, to re-create,” he said.

‘No Benedict influence, only one Pope’

The Pope also denied reports that former Pope Benedict, who resigned in 2013, was still exercising influence inside the Vatican.“There is only one Pope,” he said. He praised Pope Benedict (89) for “protecting me, having my back, with his prayers.”Pope Francis said he had heard that when some Church officials had gone to Pope Benedict to complain that Francis was too liberal, but Pope Benedict “sent them packing.”

A Malaysian woman has died after the airbag in her Honda Civic ruptured in a minor collision, a safety official said on Monday. The incident on Sunday came days after Honda Malaysia announced an additional recall of more than 145,000 vehicles to replace defective front passenger airbag inflators.Fire and rescue official Rosdi Hainan said the steering-wheel airbag had ruptured when he arrived at the site of the accident, and the victim was bleeding from her chest.

Mr. Hainan said the woman died a short time later.

Recall of millions of vehicles

There has been a massive recall involving millions of vehicles around the world because of faulty inflator and propellant devices that may deploy improperly in an accident, shooting out metal fragments that can injure or kill.Worldwide, 11 known deaths and more than 100 injuries have been blamed on exploding Takata-made airbag inflators

In November last year, a 43-year-old pregnant Malaysian housewife was killed after a collision activated the airbag in her Honda. Honda also confirmed two other deaths that are linked to airbag issues in April and May this year.

Targus Travel Dock DOCK 110 review: ‘Only Connect’

E.M Forster’s famous epigraph or succinct summary of his novel ‘Howard’s End’ — ‘Only Connect’ — referred to the challenge of connecting people. Today a tougher, more common challenge is to connect digital devices in a so-called ‘connected world’.

In the race to make computers thinner and lighter, makers often reduce the number of ports they offer. What is the use of an ultra-light notebook or tablet if you can’t connect an external display or project a movie or a presentation or If you can’t tap into a broadband connection using an Ethernet connection (always faster and more reliable than Wi-Fi)? Yet, the average portable computer tends to flaunt its super light tag by doing away with the good old VGA port or the gigabit Ethernet connection.

The Targus USB3.0 Travel Dock DOCK 110 comes as the answer to the prayers of hassled mobile professionals (and a lot of lay users). It offers a full slate of ports: VGA, Ethernet, the new USB 3.0 standard port, a micro USB if you want to charge a device — and the contemporary HDMI port for carrying HD video. A USB 3.0 cable is integrated into the dock and sits snugly inside till you pull it out. It weighs just 237g and will effectively replace a few connector cables, many times heavier.

I’m not saying it will replace all your cables — but it will sharply reduce the chances of your discovering that you can’t get hotel internet or make a critical presentation because there is a cable mismatch. Is this convenience worth the asking price of Rs 9,999? Your personal and professional lifestyle will decide for you. I do wish, however, had they gone one step further and added one port of the reversible USB Type C variety. That would have made the Targus Dock perfect for me.

Honor 5C short review: Plain Vanilla Sundae

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going” is an apt saying for today’s smart phone market. With competition getting stiff day-by-day, every other manufacturer is trying to find a niche proposition by offering more and more unique features. Some are sprucing up the RAM that might give your laptop or desktop a complex; Some have camera qualities that will make you throw away your DSLRs, battery life that will last an entire Himalayan trek… the list goes on. And then comes along a smart phone that tries to strike a balance of specs and caters to the needs of those who want their device to be simple yet sophisticated. We think that the recently launched Huawei Honor 5C strikes the balance perfectly.

One of the striking features of this smart phone is its build and design. The Honor 5C comes with a brushed metal frame body with curved edges. Weighing 156g, it feels quite light and has a good grip. We got our hands on the Gold colour variant and it looked quite elegant. The 5.2-inch screen size may seem small when compared to other devices in the market with standard 5.5-inch or above, but we felt that it was easy to use even with one hand. The display is crystal clear with the IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution.

The Honor 5C runs on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow and powered by 64-bit Kirin 650 octa-core processor with 2GB RAM. Performance wise it was able to run smoothly without any lags and delays. The 13MP rear and 8MP front cameras were able to produce some decent pictures with good sharpness and clarity. Even the low light pictures were visibly bright with the rear camera. We felt that the camera operations were so quick, that sometimes few pictures got captured unknowingly.

The device comes with a finger print sensor at the rear, which was to easy to set up and quick to recognize. This 4G phone comes with a dual SIM slot, which also has an integrated microSD card slot. The internal memory of 16GB is expandable up to 128GB. It sports a 3000mAh non removable battery, which give you a decent life of up to one day.Priced at Rs 10,999, the Honor 5C is a pocket-friendly device that does not have fancy frills but compromise on features or performance either. It will be available in India from June 30, through Flipkart and at Honor stores.

Looks like Nagarjuna and K Raghavendra Rao’s upcoming devotional film Om Namo Venkatesaya has landed itself into troubles even before the film went on the floors. Only a couple of days ago, the film’s core team visited Tirupati and sought Lord Balaji’s blessings and announced that the film will be launched soon.According to the media reports, the Hathiram Baba Matham in Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam’s premises raised objections to the film’s unit going ahead with the launch without informing them about the script or taking necessary permissions from the math.

The Hathiram Baba Mathadhipathi Krishna Das questioned how can the unit launch the film without taking prior permission from the math and also the Endowment Ministry. Krishna Das said that the math members will not think twice to move the courts if the film’s team distort facts on Hathiram Baba’a life.

Incidentally, K Raghavendra Rao is one of the members of the TTD Executive Board. Om Namo Venkatesaya traces the life and legends of Hathiram Baba, a loyal disciple of Lord Balaji, who migrated from North India and made Tirumala his home in the 18th century.

The first look and motion poster of Sai Dharam Tej’s ‘Tikka’ has been unveiled recently. Brazilian model Larissa Bonesi plays the love interest of Sai Dharam in this film. But, this not the first time that Mega family gave chances to foreign beauties.

Earlier, Amy Jackson paired up with Ram Charan in ‘Yevadu’. It was Amy’s first Telugu film. Even before that, Pawan Kalyan gave a chance to a foreign beauty in ‘Teenmar’. Gabrielle, who did an item song in ‘Devudu Chesina Manushulu’ was given a chance to play a good character in Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu’.

Though, all the above actresses did the second heroine roles in those films, Sai Dharam Tej went a step ahead and selected Larissa Bonesi as the main heroine in this film. Hope she becomes a successful heroine in Tollywood.

INSIDE STORY: Raviteja killing his own career?

Share

ravi

We have already seen Raviteja shelving his Yevado Okadu with Oh My Friend fame Venu Sriram. Back then there are rumours that Dil Raju did not offer the pay cheque Raviteja is looking at, forcing the movie to be shelved after its launch. Now similar rumours are being heard about his next project, Robinhood as well.

The film was to be produced by KL Damodhar Prasad first but he walked away saying that the project is not financially viable. Then Senior Producer DVV Danayya steped in. Reports are emerging that Danayya and Raviteja have also differed on remuneration. Sources say that the movie is either shelved or some other producer should be pitched in.

Raviteja’s market is diminishing day by day. His last film, Bengal Tiger even though has got a decent talk, did not perform up to the talk ringing the warning bells for the Mass Maharaja. But then the actor is too keen on his remuneration and is being rigid with out any compromise. This is likely to threaten his career as a whole.

Fact Sheet: The Same Old Story

Share

kcr

It’s the same old story! Finding himself under attack over the Mallana Sagar project, KCR has once again resorted to playing the sentiment card.He has dashed off a letter to the Union government claiming the AP Bhavan in Delhi and said that AP should be given some other land as compensation.

KCR says that AP Bhavan property originally belonged to the State of Hyderabad ruled by Nizam and therefore, it should now be given to Telangana.Well, the erstwhile Nizam had properties in many parts of the country. Should they all be given over to KCR now? Is this not the height of idiocy?

Knowing this fully well, the fact that he still dashed off a letter to the Centre shows an intent to rake up regional tensions once again just to divert public attention.
