AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu made some interesting comments on the rampant alcoholism among the AP people. Speaking at the Nava Nirmana Deeksha week celebrations, Babu said that people here will go mad if they quit alcohol.

Chandrababu later followed his speech at a World Environment Day event in the capital saying that whenever a wife and husband quarrel with each other in the western countries, they drink a peg to relax, but our people empty one full bottle, a small peg isn’t enough for our people.

Explaining about the importance of healthy environment in his typical style, Babu said that any couple that quarrels with each other should not empty a full bottle, but plant a sapling instead for a healthy mind and environment.Cautioning the alcoholics about the grave dangers of liquor addiction, Babu appealed to those who consume liquor regularly to not fall into the trap of devastating habits such as boozing and playing cards.

The biggest problem within the Congress party is too much democracy. Anybody can speak against anybody, even it is party president at the state level or the AICC president, and can get away with it. Action is taken only after a leader quits the party.This is what is happening in Telangana Congress party. Several leaders have quit the party after making wild allegations against the party presidents, but the leadership does not take any steps to prevent the others from going in the same line.

Of late, there have been reports that Nalgonda senior leaders Gutha Sukhender Reddy, MP and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, MLA, are getting ready to leave the party.Yet, the Congress leadership has not taken any steps to appease them and make them stay in the party.And when Komatireddy made a scathing attack on PCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy, then leaders have started reacting. On Sunday, PCC vice-president Shabbir Ali appealed to the Telangana Congress leaders to restrain from criticising each other in public.

Shabbir said that Congress was a totally democratic party and each and every leader and worker has a right to express his/her views. However, no one is authorised to speak against others in public forums or through media.He said if any leader has an issue with the leadership, then they must raise those issues in party forums than going before the media with their list of allegations.

“Despite Congress president Sonia Gandhi Ji giving statehood for Telangana, the Congress party has failed to win the last elections largely due to in-fighting. Instead of deteriorating the situation further, all Telangana Congress leaders should adopt “forget and forgive” policy and work unitedly to bring Congress party back into power in 2019 elections,” he said.

The aggressive comments being made by YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his ongoing tour in Anantapur district triggered a debate as to whether this kind of language would benefit him politically or not.

A section of analysts say the intemperate language would only do harm to Jagan, as it showed his immature political thinking.

“Any personalized attack, especially on the Chief Minister, would backfire since politics is not about individuals but the performance of the government. Even during the 2014 elections, Jagan personally targeted Naidu, asking people to throw him in Bay of Bengal. It only helped Naidu gain sympathy in the elections,” an analyst said.

He reminded that even during the Telangana movement, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao did not target any particular individual, but the entire Seemandhra leadership, when he used harsh language.

“The kind of words like “beat Naidu with chappals or brooms” will not fetch any benefit to Jagan. It might fetch a few claps from the mobilized crows, but ultimately, it shows him in poor light,” he said.

On the other hand, another analyst said there is no sweet talk in politics.

“One has to be very harsh in attacking the political rivals. Unless you adopt an aggressive stand, you cannot survive in politics. And Jagan is doing exactly the same. Nobody keeps quiet, when his party MLAs are being lured into the ruling TDP. And he has to give vent to his ire in some form or the other,” he said.
