Trump wins Washington primary, one step away from nomination
Facing no active opposition, Donald Trump on Wednesday cruised to victory in the Washington state primary and was just one step away from clinching the Republican presidential nomination to set up a likely clash with Hillary Clinton in the November polls. The win in Washington State, where he received 76.2 per cent of the total votes polled, brought him less than 10 delegates shy of clinching the nomination. The victory — winning at least 40 of Washington’s delegates — means Mr. Trump (69) now has 1,229 of the 1,237 delegates he needs to clinch the GOP nomination, according to CNN estimates.
Now he stands a real chance
Four more Washington delegates are still to be decided, potentially boosting the real estate tycoon’s total even higher. In the primary, Mr. Trump garnered over 76 per cent of the vote as Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Ohio Governor John Kasich each earned 10 per cent of the vote, while retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson earned 4 per cent of the vote. Washington did not have enough delegates to put him over the line. However, its results do, however, leave him inches short of it with a slate of contests on June 7 in California, New Jersey, New Mexico, Montana and South Dakota sure to seal the deal.
‘Thank You Washington’
“Thank You Washington,” Mr. Trump tweeted after major news channels projected his win in the state.
His victory, however, was overshadowed by the clashes between anti-Trump protesters and police outside his event in Albuquerque, New Mexico.Protesters broke through police barricades, lit fires and threw rocks at the city’s convention centre, smashing one door. Some taunted police and jumped on police vehicles.Officers in riot gear and on police horses moved the protesters away from the convention centre as anti-Trump chants rang through the city’s streets.
Only such candidate
Mr. Trump is the only Republican candidate left in the race to the White House from the Republican Party, which was crowded with as many as 17 candidates at the start of the primary season early this year.On the other hand, the race to the White House in the Democratic Party which had just three candidates at the start of this year, is still open.
Hillary may clinch nomination
While Ms. Clinton (68) is likely to clinch the nomination because of the lead she has in delegate count, her opponent Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont has refused to call off the race till the last vote in the primary election is cast.Campaigning in California, Mr. Sanders told his supporters that he would not let Mr. Trump become the U.S. President.Mr. Sanders’ campaign on Tuesday released a new television spot that will run in California ahead of the state’s June 7 primary electio
Anushka To Pair Up With Third Pillar
Leggy lasso Anushka Shetty is on a signing spree. When everyone thought Anushka may fade out soon from industry due to age and other factors, she is bagging some big-league ventures. The actress, who gained weight for Size Zero, has lost oodles of weight and is looking well in shape and charming now.
In Telugu, Anushka has already signed to play leading lady in Chiranjeevi’s Kathilantodu and Balakrishna’s Gautamiputra Satakarni. As per the buzz, she has been finalized to star opposite Nagarjuna, who is considered the third pillar of Tollywood along with Chiru and Balayya, in his next devotional film Hathiram Baba to be made by K Raghavendra Rao.
In fact, it was Nagarjuna who introduced Anushka with Super and later casted her in Don, Ragada, Damarukam for full length roles and King, Kedi, Soggade Chinni Nayana and Oopiri for cameos.Hathiram Baba will start rolling later this year. Nagarjuna has announced to allocate his two months time to finalize scripts and directors for his sons Naga Chaitanya and Akhil’s next projects. This is the reason for the delay in starting Hathiram Baba, although script for the film is ready.
Reel Buzz: Rs 8 Crore In 12 Days!
The 100th film of senior actor Nandamuri Balakrishna seems to be getting expensive with every passing day.The film completed its first schedule in Morocco recently. And going by the grapevine in the film industry, the producers had spent over Rs 8 crore for a 12-day shooting.
And, this is the expenditure for just first schedule and there is a lot of shooting still pending. It is learnt a huge set is getting ready for the second schedule, which also includes heavy star cast. So, there is definitely going to be heavy expenditure for the same.Though it is Balayya’s 100th film, he should also consider the market demand. His blockbuster film ‘Legend’ could not recover more than Rs 40 crore.
If he wants to market it for more than Rs 60 crore, he has to think again. If this is the expenditure only for the talkie part, one can imagine how much it costs for post-production. So, one fails to understand with what confidence Krish and Co are going ahead.
Trivikram Sticks With Clean Entertainment
Trivikram is one of the very few directors that can make commercial films with clean entertainment that can be enjoyed by all age groups of audience. Most of his films got clean U certificate from the Censor Board and his upcoming release A Aa too is cleared with clean U certificate.
Censor Board didn’t ask for a single cut or mute in A Aa. This is a romantic family entertainer with loads of fun and drama. Trivikram is having high hopes on A Aa.He is expecting that this film will be as successful as Nuvvu Naaku Nachav. Of late Trivikram is making star oriented films and not giving so much importance to the script.
A Aa is a story based film that doesn’t deviate from the plot for so called action and comedy. Samantha and Nithin are playing the lead roles in this film.Music composed by Mickey J Meyer is already a huge hit and the songs are topping the charts. A Aa is all set to release on June 2nd.
Opinion: Namratha Killed Brahmotsavam
Namrata is key player in selecting the projects for Mahesh Babu. She is also heard on taking a pivotal role planning the pre release and post release promotions.Though Mahesh Babu allots whole of his time only for production and on the spot output enhancements, off the camera every step taken in the process of film publicity has to be endorsed by Namrata. In fact, she spoke in personal with press people during ‘Srimanthudu’ release times and pushed the film’s success closer to ‘Baahubali.’Interestingly, Namrata again stood as principal decision maker in ‘Brahmotsavam’ publicity matters but this time failed miserably in performing her job to perfection.
For a film like ‘Srimanthudu’ which had solid content and Koratala Siva’s amazing direction, Namrata had a lesser role to play. This movie was opened to tremendous positive reviews. Had Namrata missed the promotions, there was no big threat. For ‘Brahmotsavam,’ the case was different. The film opened to piteous reviews and disgraceful public talk. So, this is right challenge for Namrata to rectify the damage.Instead of controlling the grievous talk spreading across Telugu population, Namrata and PVP team stood numb. Resultantly, media agencies like Indian Express expressed the views so boldly attacking the very roots of Mahesh Babu’s stardom.
What Namrata has done for ‘Srimanthudu’ was of lesser use than what she hasn’t done for ‘Brahmotsavam.’ Rather than hiding from media persons, there was a minute space for Namrata and PVP’s publicity team to keep a tab on negative promotions spreading through all forms of media but they lost the opportunity of minting few more crores with their inactive approachWhen you think you will never have a chance, things change and they will always do… when it comes though you have to grab it with both hands. Losing the hope and dropping the shoulders from Namrata’s side should be blamed first because ‘Brahmotsavam’ scaled down from the level of a flop to dishonorable disaster.
If you are ready to share the credits in success, be ready for the same in failure times too. Madamji, a lesson learnt.
