Mahesh Babu’s brother-in-law Sudheer Babu’s much-publicized Hindi debut Baaghi opened to poor reviews as critics panned the film completely. Calling it a cliched plot of 1970s and 1980s where there’s a dying father and he has a last wish, critics’ came down heavily on the weak screenplay.
Besides Tiger Shroff’s striking action moves, critics opined that there’s nothing interesting enough to see in the film.
Few critics, however, said the film’s first half is a bit enjoyable but the same added that there’s a sharp slide in the second half. Sudheer Babu who is seen as Raghav Shetty, a Bangkok-based gangster, has an eye on Sia Khurana (Shraddha Kapoor) who is a heroine.
When she was shooting in Hyderabad, she was abducted by Raghav’s bunch of goons and it’s when famous martial arts expert Ronnie Singh (Tiger Shroff) is roped in to rescue Sia. And yes, the duo Ronnie and Sia have a past.
The rest of story is how Ronnie rescues Sia and takes on Raghav. Raghav himself is a martial arts expert and he has an army of goons, all of whom are pointed at Ronny, and let loose. Especially post interval, the film suffers heavily resulting in a lackluster fare.
Director Sabbir, who had earlier directed Tiger’s debut Heropanti, failed to repeat the magic. Though Heropanti received mixed reviews, the film managed to become BO hit.
But Baaghi, a production of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, doesn’t seem to be. On the whole, it wasn’t a great Hindi debut that Sudheer Babu would cherish which he had been waiting for longtime. Better luck next time, Sudheer.
