The acute shortage of heroines in Tollywood had many reasons behind. When the native Telugu girls aren’t getting encouraged, producers and directors are depending on neighboring states to borrow the beautiful and talented girls who are getting easy recognition and break in Telugu cinema.

We have seen a big bunch of new faces trying all their options out and only few of them are taking it to top. One such girl who got the immediate attention off late with ‘Bhale Manchi Roju’ is heroine Wamiqa Gabbi. Although she hasn’t got any big characterization to perform in the film, the way she is introduced with a wedding dance sequence and flow of grace in her dance moves was a feast for eyes.

In the recent past, we haven’t seen any actress really showing such ease especially in dances. Unlike many gorgeous beauties impressed audience with very first look, Wamiqa Gabbi has an expressive face with strong features.

She can be a safe and better option besides young heroes, if writers provide a scope for balancing performance in her characterizations. We need to wait and see, how far Wamiqa Gabbi makes her-self available for Tollywood!

The Sankranthi box-office battle has become quite a challenge for the teams of Balayya’s Dictator, NTR’s Nannaku Prematho and Nagarjuna’s Soggade Chinni Nayana. While fans of all these three stars are anxious to see who will be the final Sankranthi winner, trade circles are even more anxious about the box-office prospects of these films.

Of all the three releases, Balayya’s Dictator team was the first to announce that the film will release for Sankranthi on the 14th of January.  However, rumors started spreading since last night that Dictator team has backed out from the Sankranthi race. Several gossipmongers even went on to murmur that the reason behind Dictator’s sudden postponement is nothing but the arrival of NTR’s Nannaku Prematho.

Witnessing the rampant rumors, the Dictator’s team informed us that there is no delay or postponement in the film’s release and that the film will surely release on the 14th January. Currently, Dictator’s team is shooting the item song on Balayya, Mumait Khan and Shraddha Das. Post-production work is also in the final stage and the entire work will be completed by the first week of January when the film goes for censor.

Sardaar Picks Gabbar Singh Date?

Film industry people believe in sentiments. They look for perfect muhurats for movie launch and release dates and run after successful heroines. Power Star Pawan Kalyan is not exception for this. The actor is said to have locked lucky date for the release of his latest flick Sardaar Gabbar Singh. If a grapevine is to be believed, the much awaited flick will hit the screens on May 11th, the same date that of Gabbar Singh’s outing.

Usually, Pawan Kalyan likes to release his films in summer as to fully utilize elongated holidays. Few super hits such as Badri, Kushi, Jalsa and Gabbar Singh were released in summer. Repeating the sentiment, Pawan Kalyan is releasing Sardaar also in summer. More over, Sardaar is second installment of Gabbar Singh franchise.

Sardaar release was initially planned for Sankranthi. Delay in production works caused postponement. Pawan Kalya is not directing the movie, but he is supervising all major departments. He penned story, screenplay, dialogues, crooned a song, supervised action sequences and dances.

In the meantime, Sardaar new teaser is expected for New Year. Nonetheless, official announcement is awaited on this. Wish, Sardaar will also smash box records like Gabbar Singh!

Style guide in your pocket

Want to learn how to best sport a pocket square and bow tie? Or planning your outfit for the semi-formal party you’ve just been invited to? Wondering how to best wear your new sparkly top to office without looking like you just jumped off the tinsel-covered Christmas tree in the lobby? Alright, so you probably call your friends for tips, but in the face of a real fashion emergency, wouldn’t it be great to have a professional’s advice? That’s where online personal stylists have come into play in a big way.

Sites like Voonik, StyleCracker and 20Dresses are exclusive portals for women, offering customised looks based on a customer’s style preference and body type. It starts with a questionnaire, which helps the stylists understand the customer profile. Once that’s done, a software, that has been programmed with the help of stylists, suggests the best looks. Archana Walavalkar, co-founder and creative director at StyleCracker, says, “While there is a whole range of fashion products available, three main queries still bother every consumer: what to wear, how to wear it and where to buy it. We use insightful data about the user’s fashion choices, body type, preferences and several other parameters to dynamically personalise and curate fashion for them.”

She describes their target user as “independent, aspirational and fiercely individualistic. She doesn’t want to just follow trends, but wants to make her own rules that are unique to her.” Perhaps, the best part is that these personalised services are free. “Hiring a stylist in person can cost you anything from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 1 lakh for just a day,” says Archana, putting things in perspective; the money saved on that can be used to shop! Apart from the personalised suggestions, stylists are always on hand to chat and help you put together looks from what you already own.

These portals are not new: StyleCracker was launched in 2013, and 20Dresses, in 2011. Founder and CEO of 20Dresses, Sumant Kasliwal, says, “The way fashion was sold to consumers didn’t change as technology was growing. But because fashion is extremely personal, people need to have some kind of support around it; of course, our target audience of 18-to-35-year-olds do go shopping with friends and family, but they are not experts. Even customers are not aware of their own style profile. But it struck me that by using technology, we can solve this problem.”

A style profile based on nine parameters will put together a personalised online “showroom” of collections that suit the shopper. While other websites curate collections from various brands in their store, 20Dresses has their own line of western and contemporary wear, accessories and bags. While this trend might seem largely women-oriented, Hardik Gandhi’s portal ‘I Am Mr.’ focuses on men’s fashion. “Men are now more conscious about their looks and personality, and are ready to do whatever it takes to look the part. Most of my clients are start-up owners, businessmen, frequent travellers and students,” he says.

“The way I work right now is not something I would call online styling, though that is where I would want to focus more in the future,” says Hardik, explaining his working process. “It has never been a one-size-fits-all approach. Once the person sends in his form from the website, I speak to them and get to know them better. They then send across full-length photographs, along with some key pieces from their wardrobes, which give me an understanding of their personal tastes, professions and body types. Based on this, I send them a four or five-page-long analysis with recommendations for their basic styling upgrade,” he says. After that, if the client opts for it, he assists them in shopping. He also conducts workshops for organisations looking for a quick styling and image criteria for their employees.

“The speed at which we have scaled is testimony to how popular online styling is,” says Archana of StyleCracker. “Everyone trusts online shopping now, and with the smartphone apps, getting a stylist is even easier,” she adds.

Couldn’t Have Asked For Better Debut: Wamiqa

Chennai: Actress Wamiqa Gabbi, who is making her Tamil debut with forthcoming romantic-drama “Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam”, says she couldn’t have asked for a better launch for her career. “I’m playing a character that’s unlike the chirpy roles I’ve essayed in my Punjabi films. I have so much to perform and I couldn’t have asked for a better role to launch my career in Tamil,” Wamiqa, who has also featured in Hindi film “Sixteen”, told IANS.

‘Maalai Nerathu Mayakkama’ was planned and shelved a few years ago by filmmaker Selvaraghavan, but his wife Geethanjali took over the reins and has completed the project. Wamiqa, quite naturally, had some apprehensions about the industry when she was called for auditions. “Initially, I was not quite sure about the south filmdom, and I was doubtful too about the project because I didn’t know anyone. I anyways auditioned and was subsequently signed for it,” she recalls.

Wamiqa started shooting for the film a day after she was confirmed. “Everything happened so quickly. I was on the sets, and it was here I learnt about Selva sir’s association with the project. I did my research on him and even watched a couple of his films. I realised he’s a great director and this was his script,” she said. “I felt I’ll get to learn from him, and I did quite a bit,” she added.

Working with Geethanjali was “great” for Wamiqa. “She’s been really nice and supportive. You can’t discuss everything with a male director. Here, I directly go to her and discuss my problems. We didn’t bond like actor and director,” she said. The film, which releases on January 1 next year also features Balakrishna Kola in the lead.

I doesn’t like to be tagged as an item girl!

Actress Shweta Sharma says she doesn’t like to be tagged as an item girl. Shweta recently featured in three songs in the investigative thriller “Charlie Kay Chakkar Mein”, a film starring Naseeruddin Shah. But she doesn’t believe in calling herself an item girl.

“I have a serious problem with this Bollywood trend of labeling any dancer as item girl. Some people have even termed me as an item girl but I want to categorically state that I’m not an item girl,” Shweta told IANS.

“Item girls are those who just do a lot of skin show and hardly dance or perform,” she added. The actress also shared that she always tries to narrate a story through her songs. “If you see my songs in my last release ‘Charlie Kay Chakkar Mein’, you’ll see that I’m trying to convey a point through my performance with the help of the lyrics of the songs.”

“I intentionally try to choose those songs which give me an opportunity to act or narrate a story and not dance around with vulgar moves,” she added.

rajinikanth-in-white-and-white

Did you know? it was Kamal Haasan who scored many hits in Tollywood during late 70s and 80s. His movies like ‘Aakali Rajyam’, ‘Maro Charithra’, ‘Vayasu Pilichindhi’, ‘Sagarasangamam’, ‘Swathimuthyam’, ‘Indrudu Chandrudu’ etc. got hits and super hits in united Andhra Pradesh. On the contrary, Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth had no significant hits in Tollywood till 1995.. In fact, Kamal Haasan was the number one star in Kollywood till late 80s and Rajini outsmarted Kamal Haasan only from early 90s.

But then, how could Rajinikanth get his image built in Tollywood? What factors made him achieving a market in Tollywood as well? According to analysts, media was primarily responsible for Rajini’s market in Tollywood. It is a known news that Megastar Chiranjeevi occupied the number one position with his ‘Khaidhi’ movie released in 1983 and he became the highest paid actor in India with Rs.1.25 crores remuneration in 1992.

Although there were no electronic and web media those days, print media has done an indispensable role in bringing out cine tidbits to the readers. Some of the media houses, then, opined that no Telugu stars could surpass Chiranjeevi’s super stardom. That’s why they reportedly started writing great about Rajini’s range in Kollywood. In the meanwhile,, Rajini’s ‘Baasha’ and ‘Pedarayudu’ (guest role) scored back to back hits in 1995 in united AP.

Provided the impetus role of Telugu media and back to back hits with above movies, Rajini’s efforts in expanding his market in Telugu states were paid off. Having inspired by Rajini, subsequently, a few more heroes from Kollywood tested their luck with their dubbed films and got fruitful results.

Sai Dharam Tej Throwing Tantrums?

Any star would start showing tantrums if he or she delivers two hits in row. This is very common trend in film industry. Only after some setback they comedown to the earth from the skies, observe senior journalists. According to grapevine, Sai Dharam Tej is the latest star who is showing tantrums on the sets. Earlier he won hearts of the movie industry for his simple nature despite coming from megastar Chiranjeevi’s family.

It is said that he has full backing of his uncle Powerstar. Yet he mingled with all the crew members freely on the sets. After the above average success of Subramanyam For Sale, Sai Dharam is reportedly started believing himself that he has become a big star and is showing tantrums, said an unit member who is working for the star’s current film Supreme.

One of the reasons why no other producer is coming forward to make movies with him other than his guru Dil Raju is that he is beyond reach of many producers, added the same source. The hardworking star should realize that these tantrums spoiled the careers of many promising superstars and they have now faded out from the memory of the audiences.

All set for young tiger Jr NTR’s Nannaku Prematho audio launch. We expect, Sr NTR and Balakrishna’s posters at the venue, apart from customary thing of the film flexis. Shockingly, they have put in Sr NTR’s posters outside and inside of the Shilpa Kala Vedika auditorium, but no Balakrishna’s posters there. This denotes the internal war amid the Nandamuri heroes.

Speculations were rife that, NTR would attend Dictator audio launch. However, this hadn’t happened. Neither the film unit invited NTR, nor the Temper star showed any interest to make it for the event. Now, same is the case with Nannaku Prematho audio launch. Common fans are patiently waiting for Nandamuri stars reunion which is not happening for long time.

NTR and Kalyan Ram are at one side, while other Nandamuri family is at Balakrishna’s side. Telugu Desam Party is also avoiding NTR, ever since the actor refused to campaign for the party in last elections. NTR desperately needs Balakrishna as well as TDP support for his further growth in industry, but it seems like NTR himself is not willing for the reunion.

When Balakrishna fans shouted at Temper audio release function, NTR spoke few good things about his babai. What will he do now?

Nandamuri Bala Krishna fans and TDP followers are not so happy with NTR’s film clashing with Balayya’s film for this Sankranthi. They expected that Tarak will back out showing respect to his Babai.

But Tarak is not stepping out of Sankranthi race. Nannaku Prematho is all set to release on January 13, 2016 means it will release just a day before Bala Krishna’s Dictator. This is the much talked about clash in recent times. Two top heroes from the same family clashing at the box office is a juicy news item for the media.

So much was written, still being written and will be written about the Nandamuris clash. All eyes are on NTR now! Fans are eagerly waiting to listen to what Tarak speaks about this clash at the audio launch.

Will Tarak try to appease Balakrishna fans or will he avoid talking about it? NTR’s speech at this event is the most awaited than the movie’s trailer! Tarak is known for his oratory skills and this speech is going to be a crucial one for him.

That Is Dictator’s Deal With Eros

Off late, star heroes and directors are venturing into production- for example Mahesh Babu with Srimanthudu and Sukumar with Kumari 21F. In fact, they don’t directly invest in those films, but act as ambassadors for the films for additional promotions, so they get share in profits. Kumari 21F got huge openings and became one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, because of Sukumar’s branding.

Coming to actual point, director Sriwass has turned producer with his latest directorial Dictator for which Eros International is actual investor. As per reliable sources, Eros initially offered Rs 25 crores for production, remunerations and for post-production works. They will release extra funds for promotional activities.

Sriwass is looking after all the things. He is not paid any remuneration, but will get his share from profits. Eros signed him for Balakrishna’s 99th film, after the director delivered a super hit with Loukyam. Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan were roped in to take care of writing department. Telugu lady Anjali didn’t demand big pay, when offer had come her way.

Sriwass is making Dictator as stylish action entertainer with comedy touch. The film is arriving to theaters on January 14th as one of the Sankranthi attractions.

There won’t be any Chemistry between the Pair

Sayesha Saigal had high hopes on her grand debut Akhil but the movie has turned out to be an unfortunate flop. Sayesha who has a strong filmy background was elated to pair up with Nagarjuna’s younger son in his first film. Sayesha was as deeply disappointed with the end result of the movie as Akhil Akkineni. Sayesha is currently doing a high budget Hindi film featuring Ajay Devgn titled Shivaay.

Speaking about her first failure Sayesha didn’t beat around the bush and instead came down hard at the movie. “The content needed to be a little more meaningful I suppose’ she pointed out without any hesitation. Sayesha is mainly disappointed for not getting to play a decent role in the story. “The couple looked beautiful but they hardly had any romantic sequences.

I think there should have been a few more emotional and romantic sequences between the couple. Focus on the romantic angle could have attracted youngsters,” she said. She didn’t hesitate to say that there was no chemistry between her and Akhil.

“When there is no romance, there won’t be any chemistry between the pair,” Sayesh said in an interview. Well, even the director of the film VV Vinayak agreed upon committing few grave mistakes in making this movie.
