Director Gautham Menon has earlier made two cop dramas Kakka Kakka (Gharshana) and Vettaiyyadu Villayadu (Raghavan IPS) and with Yennai Arindhaal (Yethavaadu Gaani) he completes the police trilogy. This film has Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar as the lead.
Story :
Satyadev (Ajith Kumar) resgins to his police job to take care of his daughter. After being out of duty for four years, Satyadev is caught in a situation where he has to use his police brain to save his friend’s kidnapped daughter. In the process he comes to know about a lady Chandramukhi (Anushka) whose life is under serious threat. Chandramukhi falls for Satyadev in first look and she is neither aware of the threat nor Satyadev’s past.
Perfomances:
Ajith Kumar is just wonderful in the role of a sincere cop. His gracious screen presence and stylish looks adds to the character. Ajith is recently appearing with grey hair in all his films. Director used that look to show him as an ageing cop. He is brilliant in the scenes where he confronts Arun Vijay.
Like all Gautham Menon’s cop movies, this one too had a powerful villain in the form of Arun Vijay who is up to the task. Anushka Shetty did fine and Trisha is mesmerizing in a brief role. Suman and Vivek played important supporting roles.
Technicalities:
Gautham Menon is at his best in dealing with romantic dramas and cop movies. His grasp over the police activities and their style of operation is unbelievable. You feel like all this is real at many instances. His attention to the minute details is commendable. There is not a single scene where he faltered as a director. Hope Gautham doesn’t stop doing cop movies as he is done with the trilogy.
Most of the songs are situational. Harris Jairaj’s background score is brilliant especially during the penultimate scenes. Cinematography is topnotch. Action scenes have been choreographed very well. Editing is good.

Analysis:
Only complaint with Gautham movies is they are relatively slow irrespective of the genre. Films based on cops moves at breakneck speed usually, but Gautham Menon keeps the action realistic all the time. Hence the films move at snail pace that may not suit the tastes of all sections of audience. But for those who like Gautham’s style of filmmaking, Yenthavaadu Gaani is worth a watch for some brilliantly executed scenes.
Ajith Kumar steals the show with his stylish and subtle performance. Not even once he goes overboard which is a rare quality in Tamil actors. First half is loaded with some dragged scenes that may put off few audiences even before the action starts. Real Cop story starts only after the interval. Second half is interesting as Ajith Kumar chases the organ mafia in his own style.
There is Gautham Menon stamp all over the film. We can see the characters talking to themselves, getting vocal in regretting their actions and consequences. A beautiful romantic track that is a must in every Gautham’s movie is also present here. However one would draw many similarities between Kakka Kakka and Vettaiyyadu Villayadu.
This may not be as good as the other two but surely has its moments to thrill the fans of earlier cop movies from the same director. Yennai Arindhal is an average fare at Tamil Box Office but that didn’t stop Yenthavaadu Gaani to receive warm welcome from the Telugu audience. This is a must watch for Gautham Menon and Ajith Kumar fans.
Verdict: Engaging Cop Drama.
