Lakshmi Manchu has proved her mettle as an actress, but somehow couldn’t make a commercially successful film. Dongata should fulfill her dreams to conquer the box office. Vamsi Krishna and his team have delivered a comedy that has enough to please the entertainment seeking audience.
Story :
Shruti (Machu Lakshmi) is a popular heroine who gets kidnapped by Venkat and co (Sesh Adivi, Madhunandan, Prabhakar). Detective Brahmi (Brahmanandam) takes up the case, but he finds Shruti in his home. When Venkat’s kidnap plan is going well police comes to know about the place where Shruti has been held captive.
Perfomances:
Manchu Lakshmi is good in the lead role. She has tried her hand at everything in this film. She has sung a song, did an action scene and also showed her dance moves in a couple of songs. Sesh is suave and stylish. Madhunandan is his usual self. Brahmanandam steals the show whenever he is on screen.
‘Boiling star’ Prithvi got another nice character to which he does complete justice. Pavithra and Prabhakar played the supporting roles. Rana did a cameo besides appearing in the special song that featured Nagarjuna, Raviteja, Nani, Simbu, Sudheer, Sushanth, Navdeep and Taapsee.
Technicalities:
Director Vamsi Krishna handled the film very well. He had a decent script on hand and made good use of it. Music is scored by three music directors and the songs are passable. Background score is good. Editing could have been better in the second half. Cinematography is fine. So are the production values. Dialogues penned by Sai madhav are impressive.

Analysis:
Dongata has an interesting premise that gets into business without wasting any time. Director didn’t take much time in establishing the characters or their intensions. The film’s plot is revealed within first ten minutes and Brahmi enters the scene in the first reel itself. There is ample comedy to keep things flowing until the interval scene.
A twist is thrown at us during interval that sets a nice platform for the second half. The story takes emotional route at the start of second half and the pace suddenly slips down to alarming levels. Care should have taken in handling the sentiment scenes. They are neither touching nor impressive. However a neatly done climax sequence lifted the spirits of the movie.
Able star cast and ample entertainment proves to be the pillars for Dongata. There is enough in the movie to sit though without much complaints. Had the director taken care about the second half, Dongata would have done wonders. In spite of the hiccups here and there, Dongata still is a fairly enjoyable film that is worth giving a try. People who like to watch crime comedies will be pleased with this entertainer. This has the goods to do well at the ticket windows.
Verdict: Dongata is Fun.
