Filmmaker Krish is known for his humanistic Telugu films such as “Gamyam” and “Vedam”. Now, with his forthcoming Hindi directorial debut “Gabbar Is Back”, he says he has taken a commercial leap.

“Gabbar Is Back” is the Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster “Ramana”, which was written and directed by A.R. Murugadoss over a decade ago.

“You could say I’ve gone commercial all guns blazing in ‘Gabbar…’. It was mainly done because of the story, which is about a man who takes corruption heads on. All my films so far have had commercial elements, but this time I’ve upped the ante,” Krish told IANS in an interview.

The film, he says, will be the ‘baap’ (father) of all the previous remake versions put together. It has already been remade in Telugu, Kannada and Bengali.

The film’s title has already created quite a buzz. Krish says it was chosen for a reason and not merely to cash in on the popularity of the original character.

“It was chosen to justify the actions of the lead character. Akshay plays a vigilante against corruption. In the movie, his actions maybe right, but the path he chooses isn’t,” said Krish and added: “You need good branding to sell any product. Here, Akshay raises his voice against corruption, and he achieves that through the brand name called Gabbar.”

“In the movie, there’s a scene where Akshay is writing an anonymous letter to the police and at the same time ‘Sholay’ is playing on the television. He overhears a dialogue and feels that in order to instill fear into corrupt men, Gabbar is the most suitable name,” he said.

The film, which also stars Shruti Haasan and Telugu actor Suman Talwar, is jointly produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Viacom18 Motion Pictures.

A few years ago, Krish was approached to remake his film “Gamyam” in Hindi. It was during this interim that he was offered the opportunity by Bhansali to remake “Ramana”.

“The best part of the film is that its story, which is about corruption, is relevant even today. We’ve retained the soul of the original and have made minor changes to suit Bollywood audiences,” he said.

“The remake will add a fresh perspective to the story, which was originally written a decade ago. So much has changed in the last decade and we had to incorporate the changes in the story. Murugadoss’s story was a drama-cum-thriller and it had a very minor role for the heroine. Here, we’ve given Shruti Haasan ample scope to perform,” he added.

Krish thanked his dialogue and screenplay writer Rajat Arora for making the film “even more exciting and commercial than the original”.

On working with Akshay, the biggest star Krish has teamed up with in his career, he said: “There was absolutely no pressure while working with Akshay. It was mostly exciting. We shot for over 100 days, and he worked with the enthusiasm of a newcomer every single day. He has launched several directors in Bollywood, and I’m glad to be one of them.”

Krish spent the last two and half years shuttling a lot between Mumbai and Hyderabad. His heart lies in both the industries.

“Although I’m currently working on a Telugu film called ‘Kanche’, I’d love to do more films in Bollywood,” he said.

He added that the film with Mahesh Babu and Sonakshi Sinha he had announced a few years ago, is yet to materialise.

New Delhi: Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who is making his film debut in a docu-feature on his life, is upset by speculation that his daughter Sara is joining showbiz.

“My daughter Sara is enjoying her academic pursuits. Annoyed at all the baseless speculation about her joining films,” Tendulkar posted on Twitter on Monday.

Rumours were rife that Sara, 17, would be making her Bollywood debut opposite Shahid Kapoor in an upcoming movie.

Meanwhile, Sachin has been excited about his own film debut.

In March, the master blaster invited his fans to suggest the title for his biopic, conceived by Mumbai-based production company 200 Not Out in co-ordination with World Sports Group, the firm that manages Brand Sachin.

The movie, to be directed by London-based writer-filmmaker James Erskine, promises “never seen before facets and footage” on the cricket legend.

Apart from his presence in the movie, Tendulkar is said to be making a lot of contribution to the project, which will capture his phenomenal rise in the world of cricket.

Actor-producer Akkineni Nagarjuna is so impressed with Telugu film “Dohchay” that he has asked its director Sudheer Varma to pen a script for him.

“He (Nagarjuna) really liked the film, especially how I managed to keep the last 20 minutes very entertaining. He has asked me to write a script for him. He said we could work together as soon as he’s done with his pending projects,” Varma told IANS.

The film features Nagarjuna’s son Naga Chaitanya in a key role.

“Dohchay”, a con-comedy, which is currently running in cinemas, has opened to mixed reviews. It also features Kriti Sanon, Posani Krishna Murali and Brahmanandam.

Varma also received a call from actor Ravi Teja, who lauded his film too.

“Ravi Teja called me to say how much he enjoyed the film. It was the biggest compliment that I had got for the film since its release,” he said.

Ace Producer – Distributor Dil Raju has come to the rescue of Lawerence’s Ganga. The movie is bogged down in neck deep troubles and is struggling to release for the past few weeks. Bellamkonda Suresh, the producer had to clear 16 Crores of finance to release the film. After he failed, Dil Raju had come forward for taking over the film.

Dil Raju is in the process of clearing all the financial issues before the film. The message was conveyed to all the distributors of the film and they are asked to approach Dil Raju for a settlement. We are said that the movie is being planned for April 30th or May 1st release now. A clarity regarding this will emerge in couple of days.

On the other side, the Tamil version of Ganga, Kanchana-2 is a blockbuster there. The movie is breaking all the records for mid-range budget films. Experts are of the opinion that the movie is on its way to become the biggest hit of Kollywood this year in terms of Return on Investment.

Energetic Hero Ram’s Pandaga Chesko is gearing up for its audio release. The director of the film, Gopichand Malineni took to Twitter and announced that the audio launch event is happening on May 1st. The film is in extensive post production phase and plans are on for Mid-May release as Summer special.

Post Kandireega, Ram is struggling in his career and has three back to back failures – Endhukante Premanta, Ongole Gitta and Masala. He is eager to make a comeback with this film. Rakul Preet Singh and Sonal Chauhan are playing the female leads in this film.

Balupu fame Gopichand Malineni is wielding the megaphone for this movie. He had got a tag of minimum guarantee director off late. His last film, Balupu is a blockbuster. ‘Simha Producer’ Parchuri Kireeti is producing the film on his United Movies banner. Touted to be a full length entertainer, the film has music scored by Thaman. Kona Venkat has penned the dialogues. Arthur A.Wilson will be cranking the camera.

Radhika Apte, who appeared in Telugu movies like Legend and Lion, was in news for her leaked nude pictures controversy last month and now she is back in the news for a similar reason. This time Radhika’s nude video from a short film has been leaked and is being shared on WhatsApp. The 20 minutes short film is directed by Anurag Kashyap.

It is an international film based on a real life story. Six directors across the globe are making six different short films which will be combined to a full length film. Speaking to a National Newspaper, Anurag Kashyap said, “We suspect an Indian hand in this leak. Even though several Westerners are working on the project, I do not think so they did this as West have much raunchier and nude scenes in this films and they do not get excited to leak”.

Anurag Kashyap confirmed that the edited version was sent to Newyork last month. The director adds Radhika Apte is very proud to act in the movie and that particular scene. He asserted that people will get to understand it once they watch the full film but not out of context clips.

The other day we have let out a news that a Telugu film unit titled Yetakaram.com comprising of 20 members have gone missing in Nepal. Reports are emerging that the choroegrapher of the film, Vijay got killed in the Earth Quake. Vijay was travelling in car which was completely damaged by the Earth Quake taking his life. Vijay is 25 years old and belongs to Peddakakani, Guntur district.

The Himalayan country was completely damaged with high magnitude quake killing more than 3500 people. The director of Yetakaram.com, Veerender Reddy, is a close relative of senior director SV Krishna Reddy. Many Telugu tourists are stranded in Nepal as Telangana and Andhra Pradesh government are trying their level best to reach out to them and bring them back.

Vijay’s family is immersed in shock and grief over this shocking incident. Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce is trying to bring Vijay’s dead body to Hyderabad. It is said that all the remaining unit members are safe. We join our readers in expressing our deepest condolences to the family.

Akkineni Nagarjuna may not be producing his son’s debut film but he will be introducing Actor Srikanth’s son Roshan in to films. The Preproduction work for this project is going on at brisk pace and it will be produced by Annapurna Studios banner. It is said that Nagarjuna himself will be playing a little role in the movie.

Roshan is currently being trained in dances and acting to make sure he is well equipped for the debut film. Srikanth has no proper hit after Khadgam many years ago. All his movies come and go with out even the audience noticing them. He desperately wants to see his son succeeding at this hour of crisis.

On the other side, Nagarjuna is currently busy with the shooting of his Multistarrer with Karthi and Soggade Chinni Nayana. And then there is Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu third season. We will have to see how and when he squeeze in time for this project!
