Fact Sheet: Eenadu, Amaravati and TDP

Share

Last week, Eenadu carried an article on Amaravati with the headline: ‘Angulam Kadilithe Ottu’ (Not an inch of works have progressed). The article mentioned how there was absolutely no progress in the Amaravati project since inception.

This week however, the newspaper changed its tune and carried another article with the headlines: 3 ellalo Amaravati milurayalu ivi (Milestones of Amaravati in the last three years) and went on to describe how Amaravati was the dream capital of the Andhras and how despite the absolute lack of assistance from the Centre, the State government was braving every hurdle to realise this dream project.

How can there be milestones for a project that the previous week showed absolutely no progress since inception? What could have transpired in the gap between the first and second articles for Ramoji Rao to have changed his stance?

The answer is best left to the reader’s imagination.

CM’s Relief Fund Losing Credibility?

Share

In the past, whenever Andhra Pradesh was afflicted by any natural calamities, people from all walks of life used to contribute to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. But of late, interest in this form of assistance seems to be dying down judging by the contributions for Srikakulam ravaged by Titli.

The major reason for this can be attributed to the loss of credibility in the Chief Minister.

An administration where the State is facing a fund crunch yet the CM splurges on renovating hi residences, a Finance Minister who opts for a root canal treatment at an exorbitant cost when the same can be availed of at a very economical price back home, a government that sells bonds at unheard of interest rates at a huge loss to the exchequer, the frequent changes of stance by the CM on various issues; all of such issues combined have eroded the credibility of the government.

Therefore, people are no longer sure that the money they contribute will be used properly.

Why then should they part with their hard-earned money merely so that the CM and his acolytes can make merry?

Sanjjanaa accuses director Ravi of sex harassment

Share

Bengaluru: After actor Arjun Sarja, two more Kannada film personalities, including director Ravi Srivatsa, have been accused of sexual harassment by two women.

Actress Sanjjanaa Galrani alleged she was harassed by Srivatsa during the shoot of a Kannada movie 13 years ago, while activist Ekta M shared an account of her close friend accusing screenwriter of a popular contemporary movie of seeking sexual favours.

Srivatsa rejected the charge and accused Galrani of making baseless allegations.

The latest charges come days after multi-lingual actress Sruthi Hariharan, in a Facebook post praising #MeToo movement, alleged Arjun behaved with her in “lewd and complete unprofessional” manner.

Arjun, a multi-lingual actor, has said he is pained by the allegation and would file a case.

Galrani claimed Srivatsa forced her to perform in certain intimate scenes for the film ‘Ganda Hendathi’ (husband and wife), a remake of Bollywood movie ‘Murder’.

In an interview to a newspaper in Hyderabad, Galrani said despite her unwillingness she was forced to do a kissing scene repeatedly for many days.

When she objected to it, the director scolded her for teaching him how to shoot a scene.

She also alleged cameras were fixed at places about which she had no idea.

Srivatsa questioned Galrani’s silence all these years.

“My 25 years of career in the film industry is ruined due to the allegation. Why she was silent for all these years?” he said.

Ekta, working with ‘Maraa’- a media and arts collective – said she was sharing her close friend’s account, though she did not reveal her identity.

She said her friend wanted to build a career in contemporary movies after watching the film in which the screenwriter had worked.

Ekta claimed her friend saw a mentor in the screenwriter but he turned out to be a predator seeking sexual favours from her.

In her account, the anonymous friend had claimed: “On a certain occasion, he expressed that he felt sexually attracted to me. I came up with a few excuses and went back home… I decided to talk this out with him. We met. I told him clearly that I am looking for a mentor. I am not interested in any romantic ventures in my life at the moment.”

Did not go by combination, believed in content: Naga Chaitanya

Share

Hero Akkineni Naga Chaitanya said he had teamed up with director Chandoo Mondeti for the second time, not because of the combination but as the content in ‘Savyasachi’ is quite worth it.

Speaking at the trailer launch, Chaitanya said, “Chandoo narrated the basic storyline while we were shooting in Norway for ‘Premam.’ Though I liked the concept, I was apprehensive in asking Chandoo but after two months, he came up to me with this project. I felt really happy and I thank him for that.”

The Akkineni hero said that the biggest blessing for ‘Savyasachi’ is Mythri Movie Makers as he and Chandoo initially planned to make the film in a small budget.“With Mythri coming into the board, the whole scale of the film changed, be in Keeravani, Yuvraj, Madhavan and Bhumika,” said Naga Chaitanya.

Announcing the pre-release event on October 27th, Chaitanya also reiterated that ‘Savyasachi’ is going to hit the screens on November 2nd.

Lot of changes have happened on the sets of Ram Charan and Boyapati’s film.Cinematographer Rishi Punjabi walked out after shooting the movie for nearly 60 per cent and now Arthur Wilson has stepped in, in his place.

Similarly, there were reports that the movie’s title is going to be changed. GreatAndhra.com was the first to inform readers that “Vinaya Vidheya Rama” is the title of the movie. It was director Boyapati’s idea to have a lengthy title. However, there were reports that Ram Charan is not confident about this name and he reportedly asked the director to think of another title.

Boyapati was to release the movie’s first look and poster on Dassera festival, but he dropped the idea as Ram Charan did not like the title. However, after “Aravindha Sametha Veera Raghava” becoming a decent hit at the box-office, Ram Charan made up his mind and the same title has been fixed finally.

IT Dept Raids 100 Places in TN and Andhra in Tax Evasion Case

Share

The Income Tax Department (ITD) on Thursday launched multiple raids at over 100 locations in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh as part of a tax evasion probe against mining and mineral export companies, officials said.

The searches are being conducted at the premises of at least four such business groups in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Karaikal in Tamil Nadu and Vishakhapatnam and Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, they said. One of the firms identified by ITD officials is V V minerals of Tamil Nadu.

Over 130 ITD officials are conducting the operation with assistance from security and police personnel, they said.

They said the companies that are being searched are involved in mining, processing and export of beach sand minerals in an alleged illegal manner that led the taxman to probe tax evasion charges against them.

The alleged illegal profits earned through this, they said, was subsequently ploughed for investments into other businesses of these groups like spinning mills, sugar mills, hotels, engineering colleges and some blue metal businesses.

Some overseas transactions of these companies, made in alleged violation of tax laws, is also under the scanner of the department and the sleuths are looking for documents, to substantiate these charges, during the raids, they added.

VBVR Early US Release Strategy Backfires!

Share

Veera Bhoga Vasantha Rayalu is a noticeable release this week in cinemas. It brings together the likes of Nara Rohit, Sudheer Babu, Sri Vishnu and Shriya together. Unfortunately, the release strategy adopted by the makers has killed any box office prospects of the movie.

The movie can be classified as a different attempt without any doubt. With that in mind, the makers thought it would be appropriate to release it in the US days ahead of Telugu states. It was to cash in on the Tuesday premiere and with the hope of a positive word of mouth helping the Telugu states release buzz.

But, the talk coming out is anything but positive. In the past, few films have released this way with the most notable one being Happy Days releasing one week in advance. The great word of mouth assured an increase of hype locally. Here, it is exactly the opposite.

This Can Be Avoided, Charan!

Share

There are various rumors floating around regarding the upcoming film of Ram Charan with Boyapati Srinu. The most problematic seems to be the slow progress of shooting not keeping up the schedules. Basically, the buzz is that there is a delay and RC12 might not make it to Sankranthi in time without being rushed. What adds weight is the image of Ram Charan with ‘swami’ mala.

Many are assuming that he is not participating in the shoot. Well, the truth is that the shooting is happening smoothly and the movie will arrive on time. At least that’s what the sources in the unit confidently say. The lack of clarity from the makers is the reason for all the false rumors to come out.

It could be easily avoided, but right now it doesn’t seem to be on the production house’s radar. We hope they get things clear sooner rather than later as that delay would only increase frustration if the fans.

NTR biopic a cash cow for Balakrishna

Share

NTR biopic is a prestigious project for Nandamuri Balakrishna as an actor and as a producer. He is pooling money bags for this much awaited film which is made as a two part franchise by director Krish. The film has been creating ripples in trade circles ever since it started rolling.

Balakrishna and Krish initially wanted to make it as a single part. As there are heavy expectations among audience, they have now announced it as a two part film. This strategy is turning out to be a cash cow for its producers as they are going to recoup their investment just with the theatricals of first part and will bag solid profits with the second part rights and other avenues like digital and satellite rights.

Sources close to the production house revealed that Balakrishna and other producers will have close to 60 Crores profits after selling all rights of two parts of this biopic. There won’t be much increase in the production cost though it is made as two parts. So, the investment will be same but the business prospects have doubled for its producers which will ensure them heavy profits even before the release of first part. It seems like NTR biopic is going to be a money spinner for Balakrishna.
