Sailaja Reddy Alludu Teaser: Blockbuster Formula of the Nineties

Share

The title Sailaja Reddy Alludu itself gives us an idea about how the film is going to be. Atha-Alludu theme was hugely successful formula in Tollywood in late eighties and early nineties. All the top heroes belonged to that period have done at least a movie or two with this setup. Director Maurthi seems to be reintroducing the formula with Sailaja Reddy Alludu.

The teaser of the film also is in tune with the blockbuster formula of the Nineties.Female lead played by Anu Emmanuel is an egoistic character and Chaitanya faces a challenge dealing with her. There is a glimpse of Ramya Krishna playing the tough Attha’s role in the film.“Ee pilley ila unte inka talli ela untundo” line says a lot about the characters of heroine and her mother.

Naga Chaitanya is looking at his handsomest best in formal dresses. His styling is spot on.We have to wait for the theatrical trailer cut to see whether Maurthi simply followed the formula of the nineties or has given a new twist to it.

The film is bankrolled by Sitara Entertainments and gearing up for release on Aug 31.

July BO: A Blockbuster And A Bunch of Disasters

Share

Tollywood trade had pinned a lot of hopes on July releases to keep the box office busy. With June turning out to be a forgettable one with multiple flops, July releases were crucial for Tollywood business. But none of the July releases clicked except small budget film RX 100.

Big films like Pantham, Tej I Love You, Saakshyam, Lover etc. were released in July but only a low budget film like RX 100 was able to set the cash registers ringing.RX 100 that was sold for Rs. 2.5 crore made more than Rs. 10 crore share at the box office. Notable films like Tej and Lover ended up as massive disasters with less than twenty five percent returns.

Saakshyam that released on last Friday is heading for a big flop as it collections crashed from Monday.Pantham starring Gopichand also ended up as flop but performed better compared to other films. Other small films like Happy Wedding, W/o Ram, Aatagadhara Siva and Tamil dubbed film Chinna Babu have left a huge hole in the pockets of their makers.

Trade is betting August to be a fruitful one with many promising films lined up for release. Srinivasa Kalyanam, Geetha Govindam, Sailaja Reddy Alludu are among the most awaited releases and Nartanasala, Chi La Sow and Goodachari also are looking promising.

Angry Telugus Counter BJP’s Attack On Babu

Share

For the last couple of years, the people of Andhra Pradesh have been deeply upset with the BJP government. Time and again, angry Telugus have been targeting the BJP for its betrayal over AP special status and many other crucial promises made during the state bifurcation.

On the other hand, amidst severe backlash, the BJP has been making numerous futile attempts to divert all the opposition to the Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP government. BJP’s recent trick to attack the TDP with an RTI report has backfired terribly, and it’s not the TDP leaders but common Telugus who countered the BJP.

BJP’s AP wing tweeted an RTI report’s screenshot and said that Babu has not yet allotted land for the construction of the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE). Within no time, people started countering the BJP’s veiled attack, questioning its hypocrisy.

“What about the IIIT in Sri City that was started by the centre in 2013 but is still lying in the 5th floor of the IIFM and offers only computers and ECE? Why are you not developing it into a full fledged campus like other 19 IIITs in the country?,” said a man, in his response to BJP’s tweet.

While another man questioned, “what did the BJP do to the land allotted for the IIM Vizag?” Some went on to say that just like the Congress, even BJP will be wiped out from Andhra Pradesh after the next election.

Chiru Wants Seniors, Koratala Wants Fresh Girl!

Share

Right now, Megastar Chiranjeevi wants to do justice to the shooting of #SyeRaa on one side and want to campaign for his political endeavours on another side. But in the meantime, he wants to work on another film project too.

Very soon we would be seeing Koratala Siva’s mega project rolling out with Megastar Chiranjeevi in the lead. And we hear that Koratala is already on the hunt for a heroine. Actually, there are some heroines who want to pair up with Chiranjeevi and that includes both Trisha and Anushka. After joining hands with Kajal (Khaidi No. 150) and Nayantara (Sye Raa), Chiranjeevi knows how tough it is to find a heroine and hence he wants to go with another fading out senior starlet.

There comes Koratala, who is said to be insisting on bringing a new girl from Mumbai. There are some 30+ aged TV serial actresses and models who pair well with Chiranjeevi for the silver screen and he wants to rope them in. Currently, both Chiranjeevi and Koratala are said to be discussing this and they will take a call soon.

This 152nd film of Megastar is also being produced by his son Ram Charan only!!

Here’s Clarity On Sharwa And Pallavi’s Profession

Share

‘Padi Padi Lechenu Manasu’ is the upcoming film featuring both Sharwanand and Sai Pallavi. There are various rumours about this film, the fight between lead actors and how director Hanu Raghavapudi is shaping the content. Here is an interesting thing.

Sometime back it came out that Sai Pallavi will be seen as a football player in this movie. Then there is buzz that Sharwa is also a cricket player. But here comes the mega clarity about these things. Actually, neither football is an integral part of the story nor Sai Pallavi will be seen kicking the ball.

Sharwa will be shown as a football player and only his opening introduction sequence will see him dabbling the ball and putting it in goal post. Then Sai Pallavi will be seen as a doctor (medico) and how the former football player wins her heart happens to be the whole movie. That’s the much-needed clarity on the profession of these stars inside the movie.

It’s more of a love story with relatable and cute sequences and lots of twists as well. Hope Hanu Raghavapudi won’t disappoint like LIE where there are many twists that bored all.

I take higher cut in film profits, says Superstar

Share

Mumbai: Superstar Aamir Khan says he takes a higher cut in films’ profits because he risks his time on projects. But he does so only after the cost of each film is recovered in every aspect. The actor-producer gave out the information on the inaugural day of the fifth Indian Screenwriters Conference here on Wednesday.

During an interactive session on the topic ‘Writers VS Producers: Can they never be allies?’, Aamir was asked: “There is a worrying trend that now the star has started taking about 80 per cent of the film, not profit but actually as his fees. Even though he is letting his fees go, it ultimately comes to the actor taking away 80 per cent. In 20 per cent how are we going to make a successful film?”

The actor replied: “My first rupee comes to me when the film’s cost is recovered in every aspect, after the producer’s and everybody else’s money is recovered. That’s the model I work with, and certainly, I take a higher cut in the percentage because I am risking my time on that, and I think producers are happy with that too.”

Explaining the model, he shared: “The model that I work on is that, say a film costs Rs 100 crore to make. It consists of everything – cast, crew, production cost, post-production cost and everything comes in that. I don’t take any money in that. I take nothing.”So, when the film releases, I get zero money. And as it starts earning money, that money goes into P and A (Promotions and Advertising), which is over and above Rs 100 crore. Say P and A is Rs 25 crore, it then goes into recovering that.

“Once P and A is recovered, the producer has recovered his money, and everybody has got their fees…then I go into the percentage of profits. This way, there is no way that the producer can lose any money. And if for some reason, the film has not recovered the money, that it didn’t do well, then I don’t get any money,” he said.Being part of some of the iconic films like “Dangal”, “PK”, “3 Idiots” and “Lagaan”, Aamir believes that the script plays an important role in the success of a film.

“I think the script is the foundation (of a film) and I make sure that once I love the story and the film is in the making, people who are investing money should not be in loss. I don’t allow the producer to shoulder the responsibility alone,” he said.He believes that sharing the responsibility of making the film commercially successful also secures his career and builds trust with the producers and financiers of films.

“I think this is the best business model for film and our business because in most of my films, if producer is not losing money, it is but obvious that he will sign me for the next film. That is why I always ensure that if I am signed in a film, there is no loss,” he said.

Citing the example of the 2001 film “Lagaan”, Aamir said: “Since that film was one of the expensive films of that time and was breaking a lot of rules of mainstream Indian cinema and that is why I felt the importance of taking the responsibility. “That apart, I know when I come on board, producers and financiers do not question me on the subject I chose for a film because they trust me, they have faith in me. That is why I want to ensure the profit.”

Pooja Hegde Slams Team for Silly Projects

Share

Pooja Hegde who is riding high on popularity has lost cool with her team after the debacle of “Saakshyam”.More than the film’s failure, she is hurt with the negative comments about her looks and her acting skills.Critics panned her performance in the role of Soundarya Lahari, a young religious person who teaches pravachanalu. Her role is awkwardly bad and she looked quite listless with bad makeup and not-so great styling.

The film is now heading towards a huge flop. Now that its fate has been sealed, Pooja reportedly lambasted her team for setting up such lousy scripts and movies. When producer Bellamkonda approached her for this role, she declined to accept but her team insisted that he’s giving good remuneration and also told her that the movie would be made as mini-Baahubali.

She was tempted by the scale of production and the word ‘Baahubali’. However, the film turned out to be different. She told the team she would not do such films henceforth. She is currently shooting for Trivikram’s “Aravindha Sametha” opposite NTR and Mahesh Babu’t 25th film.

Katrina doesn’t feel she has ‘saved’ Salman’s ‘Bharat’

Actress Katrina Kaif, who has replaced Priyanka Chopra in Ali Abbas Zafar’s forthcoming film “Bharat”, says she doesn’t think she has “saved” the project in any way by being a part of it in the nick of time.Katrina has made a last minute entry in Salman Khan-starrer “Bharat” after Priyanka opted out of it.

Asked to share her thoughts on how graceful she has been in saving “Bharat” at the last moment, Katrina said: “It’s not like that. I don’t see it that way at all. Ali Abbas Zafar is very dear friend of mine. We have worked with each other earlier in ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ and ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ and both films were extremely successful. More importantly, I had a great experience working on those two films.”She said that like all her other films, she chose “Bharat” also on the basis of its script.

“The roles which I have chosen for myself are purely based on script and what my character is in that film. So for me, it is extremely exciting to be working with the team again. When this time Ali contacted me, he told me ‘Goldfish’… He calls me Goldfish… He said, ‘I am sending you a script and just react to it and tell me what you feel about it’.”When I read the script, I thought it was an absolutely wonderful script and I felt extremely excited about the character which I am playing in the film. Therefore, I am very happy to be part of the film.”

Katrina spoke on the sidelines of the Vogue Beauty Awards 2018 here.In “Bharat”, Katrina will play the love interest of Salman. She will be joining the shoot in the upcoming schedule beginning in September. “Bharat” began production earlier this month and the first look of the film is already out. The film also stars Tabu, Sunil Grover and Nora Fatehi in pivotal roles.

It is a remake of the 2014 South Korean film “Ode to My Father”. Produced by Atul Agnihotri’s Reel Life Productions and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, it will release on Eid 2019.

Congress-TDP in Telangana not ruled out?

Share

The Congress party does not want to lose any opportunity that would help it pull down the Telangana Rashtra Samithi from power in 2019 assembly elections, even it required forging an alliance with the Telangana unit of Telugu Desam Party.Though the Telangana TDP has lost most of its leaders who jumped into the TRS, the party still has a lot of cadre at the field level, which has been opposing the ruling party. Moreover, it still has a hold among the Seemandhra settlers in Telangana, particularly the Kamma community.

These settlers had voted for the TDP in 2014 assembly elections, but shifted to the TRS during the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls, because of the good relations between Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his AP counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu. But now, the relations seem to have strained and the TDP is now trying to exploit the same to counter the TRS.

The Congress party is now trying to cash in on these differences between the TRS and the TDP.The Congress leaders are sending feelers to the TDP for an alliance and might even offer a few seats to the latter, so as to defeat the TRS. That is why even PCC president Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy is not ruling out the alliance with the TDP.On record, however, Uttam says it is too premature to talk about the alliances.

“The decision on this issue would be taken by Congress president Rahul Gandhi himself,” he said. The Congress is planning to support the Seemandhra settlers, if they contested the next elections either on Congress or on the TDP tickets.“In 2014, the Seemandhra settlers in Hyderabad were angry with Congress party after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014. But now, the things have changed. We are hopeful of winning back their confidence,” he said.

If the Congress cannot win in the constituencies dominated by settlers, it will back the TDP candidates, the party sources said.

Has Jagan put an end to Kapu quota row?

Share

After making his party leaders clarify the party’s stand on the Kapu reservations controversy for three days, YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy finally sought to put the records straight at Pithapuram public meeting, thereby undoing the damage his earlier statement at Jaggampeta had done.Jagan reiterated that he had never opposed the quota for Kapu community, but did not want to make false claims that he would secure it.

“I only said since the Centre was seized of the matter, it could be resolved by the Centre in the wake of the Supreme Court judgement. I made it clear in the past that out party is for the reservations to Kapus without affecting the existing quota and there is no question of going back on my stand,” he asserted. The YSRC president accused the TDP and a section of media of distorting his statement and taking his comment out of context.

Analysts, however, say enough damage had already been done to YSRC due to Jagan’s statement at Jaggampeta and his clarification at Pithapuram would only stop further damage. On the other hand, TDP leaders, including Naidu, have already started extensive campaign against Jagan projecting him as anti-Kapu. Simultaneously, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is also touring West Godavari and it will further affect Jagan’s prospects.

“His assurance of doubling the financial assistance to Kapus has also not appeased the community. The only way Jagan can undo the damage is to hold a series of talks with the Kapu community leaders like Mudragada in the next few days and give them a strong assurance that he would take up their cause in the coming days,” a party source said.
