Vunnadi Okate Zindagi Movie Review

Share

Director Kishore Tirumala’s previous film Nenu Sailaja with Ram was a runaway super hit. One would expect similar kind of feel good film when the actor and director come together again. Vunnadi Okate Zindagi seemed promising from the outset but ended up as a disappointment.

Story :

Abhi (Ram) and Vasu (Sri Vishnu) are childhood friends. Abhi falls in love with Maha (Anupama), a house surgeon. When Abhi was about to express his love for Maha he comes to know that Vasu also is in love with her. Both of them express their feelings for Maha and she chooses Vasu over Abhi. Later friends get separated and four years later they meet in a friend’s marriage. How do they rebuild their friendship forms rest of the story.

Performances:

Ram is seen in two different getups in the film. His rockstar getup is good. He is particularly impressive in emotional scenes. Anupama got a very nice role and she did justice to it. Lavanya is alright as a struggling wedding planner. Sri Vishnu as Ram’s friend played a key role and he is apt. He is impressive in the emotional sequences. Priyadarsi’s comedy is good in parts. Kireeti, Anand and Anisha played other important roles.

Technicalities:

Kishore Tirumala did well in getting the emotions right. A couple of key emotional scenes came out well. Story is an old one that lacks any freshness. Screenplay is not up to the mark as it moves aimless at times. Screenplay in the second half is particularly unimpressive.

Devi Sri Prasad came up with a couple of catchy tunes. His music is the mainstay of the film. He did well with the background score too. Dialogues are good in emotional scenes. Cinematography is neat. Editor could have kept the run time short. Second half drags on and on. Production values are good.

Thumbs Up:

  • Ram
  • Emotions
  • Climax

Thumbs Down:

  • Screenplay
  • Second half

Analysis:

Vunnadi Okate Zindagi’s plot is a time tested one. Director Kishore Tirumala tried to make it look like a fresh plot, but apart from a couple of well conceived scenes, VOZ is a routine friendship-love saga that lacks freshness whatsoever. Right from the childhood episodes to the drinking scenes between grownup friends, nothing about this film is fresh and appealing.

First half of the film is neatly paced though. Scenes between Anupama and Ram are decent enough to keep us engaged. However, one could easily see the plot twist that is in the waiting. Pre interval scenes are done well and set a nice platform for an emotional second half. Surprisingly, second half opens on an entirely different note with a marriage setup.

The film totally goes off track at the beginning of the second half and only makes sense during the last scene. Neither comedy nor emotions work in the second half that is leisurely paced with some lazy writing. Climax is good with an interesting twist, but one will have to sit through a boring second half to experience that touching scene.

Kishore Tirumala’s previous film Nenu Sailaja also had a routine plot, but he made it into an effective romantic drama with perfect screenplay. In VOZ, he couldn’t recreate that magic and simply relied upon performances and dialogues to make an impact. VOZ had its moments but they are very few and far between. It may appeal to youngsters who value friendship a lot, but on a whole VOZ is a below average fare with so little to take home.

Verdict: What Amma… What is this Amma?

Can’t Return to India as Prisons are in Poor Condition: Mallya

Share

Liquor baron Vijay Mallya, who is wanted in India for defaulting on loans worth over Rs 9,000 Cr, has come up with a silly excuse to evade extradition by the Indian authorities. He has told the UK court that he can’t return to India as ‘prisons there aren’t up to international standards’.

Responding immediately, Indian authorities have dismissed Mallya’s claims. The Mumbai prison authorities have written a letter, which was produced in the UK court, mentioning all the facilities that are available inside the Arthur Road prison in Mumbai, where Mallya will be lodged upon extradition. They claim that he will be placed in a high security cell, will be provided 24×7 medical facility, periodic health check ups, and they boast of having one of the top hospitals in Mumbai just 2 km away in case of emergency.

The UK court is hearing the case after Mallya got arrested for the second time on October 3 this year. He was arrested for the first time in April, but got bail immediately on both the occasions.

Indian authorities in the meanwhile have been working on ways to bring back Mallya from the UK, where he has been residing ever since he fled from India. The recent arrests and cases on Mallya in UK are a direct result of Indian authorities making an extradition request.

#Mahesh25: Neither Murari Nor Hare Rama

Share

Rumours are everywhere that Mahesh Babu is taking extra care of his 25th film that will be directed by Vamsi Paidipally and produced by Dil Raju, Ashwini Dutt together. While the superstar is busy with shooting of Bharath Anu Nenu, it has that he picked a title for his landmark film already

From a couple of days back, two titles, “Krishna Mukunda Murari” and “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” are doing rounds in Film Nagar as selected ones for #Mahesh25. Also, it is publicized that Mahesh and director Vamsi are fond to pick one among these two, while Dil Raju is not interested in them. They say Raju made only fops with titles like “Rama Rama Krishna Krishna”, “Krishnashtami” and “Ramayya Vastavayya” and hence his dislike.

Putting all these rumors aside, director Vamsi Paidipally gave a big clarity today. “Title for #MAHESH25 hasn’t been decided as yet.. It is neither “Krishna Mukunda Murari” nor “Hare Rama Hare Krishna”… will keep you all posted once we decide on an apt title”, he tweeted, clearing the confusion.

Currently, Dil Raju, Vamsi, and Devi Sri Prasad are hopping in the streets of New York, both composing some songs for the film and also scouting few locations.

NTR is Our Inspiration – YS Jagan

Share

YSR Congress party President and Opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has recently announced his decision to boycott the upcoming AP Assembly sessions, said that TDP founder and former Chief Minister NTR is an inspiration for him in boycotting Assembly.

Jagan reminded that NTR, who was the leader of opposition party then, had boycotted Assembly when he felt insulted by the ruling party. He cited the examples of Jayalalithaa and even Chandrababu Naidu who had boycotted Assembly sessions at different times in their respective political careers.

YSRCP leaders demand that they wouldn’t attend the Assembly sessions until action is taken against the YSRCP MLAs who defected to TDP without resigning to the MLA seats.

Sri Chaitanya & Narayana Fighting Over a Student

Share

Sri Chaitanya and Narayana, arguably the two top education institutions in the Telugu states, are infamous for indulging in alleged mudslinging activities and employing ruses to grab potential rankers, sometimes snatching from each other. In the latest episode, the two institutions have taken their rivalry to the notice of police.

Going into brief details, a student named Fazil was studying 10th class at a Narayana branch in Nellore. Knowing that he is a potential ranker, Sri Chaitanya management has allegedly lured his parents, lower-middle class people, with the promise of providing free education to their son until 12th standard if they join him in their institution. Fazil, who came from Narayana hostel to his residence for Diwali holidays, was reportedly convinced and taken to Hyderabad branch of Sri Chaitanya in a matter of two days.

When the student didn’t return after holidays, Narayana people enquired his parents and learnt how their Sri Chaitanya counterparts took him to Hyderabad. Then, they have allegedly pressured the student’s parents and made them lodge a kidnap case against Sri Chaitanya management. As of now, the managements of both the institutions are reportedly fighting over the student.

It is common to see similar fights for brilliant students among educational institutions during the beginning of every academic year, but this is a special case as its happening in the middle of this academic year. All this fuss is happening at a time.

New Rules: Hero to Compensate Distributor’s Loss?

Share

In the last 2-3 years, not just Telugu cinema’s reach and business have flourished, but the losses of distributors (in the cases of flops and disasters) have also raised sharply. After facing substantial number of duds and losing hundreds of crores, the distributor community has finally opened its eyes and taken a first step towards minimizing the risk.

The Telugu film distributors have recently formed a committee, which will be headed by noted distributors – Daggubatti Suresh Babu, Dil Raju and Sunil Narang of Asian Cinemas, and they have come up with a few proposals.

According to them, both the director and hero of a big film will have to set aside 25 percent of their remuneration, and the amount will be compensated to the buyers in case a film incurs more than 25 percent loss. If the film manages to break even, the amount will be returned to the respective hero and director. A film’s producer will keep this money and he will give it to either hero & director duo or the distributors based on the film’s result at box office.

The committee will soon come up with the list of heroes and directors who will fall into the proposed bracket of top league players. All the listed heroes and directors will have to comply with the rule. The committee expects the new rules to result in heroes and directors becoming more responsible during filming as well selling the theatrical rights since 25 percent of their pay will be at stake.

The proposed rules are likely to be implemented from December this year. Akhil’s “Hello” could be the first movie to comply with this rule.

Why Tollywood Forgot This Heroine?

Share

When a heroine excites with her glamour for the very first time, no doubt she will go on to become a star heroine. What if she does the same with her performance, only a few will get next chances? Here is an example.

If we look at Kumari 21 F, Hebbah Patel was a star overnight while the film was a blockbuster. When it comes to another such blockbuster Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavadu, the star campaigner Nandita Swetha didn’t become any busy. Despite impressing critics and audiences alike, she didn’t have any second release or film so far in the Telugu language.

Albeit the presence of other two dazzling starlets like Avika Gor and Hebbah Patel, Nandita won all the hearts but seems like Tollywood is not interested in this girl. While she has nearly 4-5 Tamil films in hand, we wonder what stopped Telugu makers from approaching her, though she gave enough indications with her glamorous photo shoots to become part of commercial films.

Hailing from Bangalore, this 31-year-old Kannada beauty made her mark with Pa.Ranjith’s debut film Attakathi in Tami and then Ethir Neechal made her a busy bee in Kollywood. Surprisingly she did only one film in her native Kannada as well, and there are no offers there too.
